Dave Matthews Band
Ok this is kind of late, but do you like Lillywhite or Everyday better? I defiantely can not get into everyday and thought Lillywhite should've been released. Just a note, I can't wait for Oysterhead!!!!!!!!
|
Hang in there...being that this is a Dave Matthews thread, amycat and gphi2k should be arriving to this thread shortly... hee hee! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I prefer the Lillywhite album. It is much more like the old dave that I know and love. The songs are great.
|
I agree with you Aryra... Lillywhite!! I miss the old Dave!
|
I like this new album. Yes, I admit that it's a lot more poppy then what I'm use to. But I for one am glad that Dave and the guys took a chance and put out something different. They even said themselves that they were tired of playing the same type of songs all the time. And the songs from the new album are sounding great live. The Everyday/#36 mix is awesome.
But I will be the first to admit that if they had released the Lilywhite version,it would have totally ROCKED! I love Grey Street. |
Everybody, there is a new band comming out called Oysterhead. I've herd great thing about them. Check this line up:
Trey Anastasio (Phish) Les Claypool (Primus) Stewart Copeland (The Police) I'm definately going to buy the album when it come out. On a sad not, I'm still going through my Phish Hiutus withdrawal. |
LILLYWHITES hands down. Any true DMB fan will say the same.
Lillywhites are far more true dave than is everyday. I like everyday, I LOVE the lillywhites. Bartender is my personal fave on the cd, but I love Grey street and, well, I love all the songs (minus the last three which are just plain weird). Everyday has some great tunes too, but they're all cookie cutter, 4 minute pop songs that REEK of Glen Ballard. Someone has got to get ridda that guy! What was Dave thinking? Prospectiverushee is right, it's cool to have some different stuff, thus my belief that the two disks should have been released as a two disc compeltation. Because now, the lillywhites, which are slated for release as far as Dave is concerned, have already been leaked and most fans have them already. Cutiepie2000 warned you I'd have my two cents. Now where are tigergirl and amycat??? |
|
That is easy:
Busted Stuff Grey Street Diggin a Ditch Sweet Up and Down JTR Big Eyed Fish Grace Is Gone Captain Bartender Monkey Man Kit Kat Jam Raven Here is another trivia, what is Lillywhite Session's real title. [This message has been edited by Arya (edited August 12, 2001).] |

I don't know if you guys heard yet, but Dave and the boys might be following Phish and take a couple years off. It's a good thing, they're show been flat lately and that good vibe is gone due to the amount of bandwagon fan that came around. People are comming to the show not to hear good music, but because itwas the cool thing to do. I say Dave should take two years off, and the true fan will appreciate them even more and those "scene" fan will follow other band that MTV spoon fed them.
|
I'm here! Just in Arlington, VA for a few days so not online much!
Lillywhites is BY FAR better than Everyday. Its some of Dave's deepiset songwriting to date and it cannot help but touch you when you listen to it. More later! Amy |
from Yahoo--
Dave Matthews' Double Dose of Daddyhood The space between the walls of Dave Matthews' house has gotten a bit more crowded. The alternarocker and his wife, Ashley, are celebrating the birth of twin daughters, according to his band's official Website, DaveMatthews.com. The missus gave birth to the fraternal twins, Stella Busina and Grace Anne, last Wednesday in Seattle. The two girls are the first for Matthews, 34, and his 27-year-old wife, who tied the knot in August 2000 after eight years of couplehood. No further details about the birth--such as the bambinos' dimensions--were disclosed, but they did arrive a little early. They weren't officially due until next month--Matthews even built a month-long hiatus into his band's current five-month, 53-city tour that was supposed to kick in next Wednesday and last through the end of September. Fortunately for Matthews, he won't be straying far from his family's temporary home base in Seattle, where his wife is studying naturopathy, a form of holistic medicine. (The couple usually reside in Charlottesville, Virginia.) His band plays the Gorge Amphitheater in nearby George this weekend followed by a show next Tuesday at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. After that he's not due back on the road until a September 29 date at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana. "As we wind the tour down," he told the Detroit Free Press, "I'll be able to wind up my fatherhood. (We're guessing with a pair of healthy newborns in the house, Matthews will be spending many a future night wide awake and dreaming--of a chance to get back on the road for a rew relatively peaceful nights.) While Matthews hasn't yet commented on the stork visit, he earlier said he expected the kids to dominate his life. "I can't wait to have babies! Nothing else seems important," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I can imagine it's only going to affect me positively," he added in an interview with the Detroit Free Press, "so hopefully it does the same for my career" Not that he has anything to worry about, work-wise. His concert trek last year was the third-highest-grossing touring act in the world, raking in nearly $68 million from 63 dates, and his band's latest album, Everyday, debuted at number one back in March and is the latest DMB disc to go muliplatinum. A retrospective of their videos came out on video and DVD this week and the band has another live album due in October. |

DMB Go Live Again August 22, 2 p.m. ET, RollingStone.com Amid a year in which they released a chart-topping album and saw an unreleased recording become a cult favorite with fans, the Dave Matthews Band will also drop yet another live album on fans. The DMB will release the two-CD set, Live in Chicago 12/19/98, on October 23rd. The set, recorded at the Windy City's United Center, will be the band's fourth live recording, not counting a Dave Matthews, Tim Reynolds live album from 1999. They released double-disc sets, Live at Red Rocks 8/15/95 in 1997 and Listener Supported in 1999, and the band's first full-length release, 1993's Remember Two Things, was also a live recording. Fans can place advance orders for the new album through the band's Web site, www.davematthewsband.com. The DMB also recently released The Videos 1994-2001 on DVD/VHS. So Dave is a daddy. Wow. I know many fans (girl fans that is) out there are super jealous.
The Lillywhites....Someone asked what they were originally supposed to be called. No one has answered that question and I must say I'm super curious. I have a vague recollection of it being something super lame. But I may just be thinking about EVERYDAY  . As for getting ahold of the disc...I have the whole thing, digitally remastered and studio quality. Don't bother checking out the website or looking for it in stores. You won't find it. I got it during the 2 day window when the songs were origainally released. The site got so overloaded that it crashed (kinda like the way we crashed that website that has all the cute little icons. i miss those :( ). I think they tried to get the site up and running again but to no avail. Rumour has it (so Dave says) that the songs will eventually be released. If you got to read the Rolling Stone article that came out around the time Everyday was released, you'd know the whole saga around Lillywhites not getting released. Dave loves the songs (after all, he wrote them alone, from the heart, without Glen the loser Ballard) and was pretty ticked that the record company scrapped it. He wants to release them at some point. And when he does, I will buy it, even though I own it. It just seems like the right thing to do. And YAY about the live disc that's coming out. I don't have any live stuff from beyond Crush. I've scarcely heard songs from Before these Crowded streets live. WOOHOO! I guess I've yapped enough. Look what happens when I don't post for awhile ! Leslie |
Leslie--
Go buy Listener Supported--its a live recording of one of the BTCS concerts. Set list is-- Disc 1 1. Intro 2. Pantala Naga Pampa 3. Rapunzel 4. Rhyme & Reason 5. The Stone 6. #41 7. Crash Into Me 8. Jimi Thing 9. #36 10. Warehouse Disc 2 1. Too Much 2. True Reflections 3. Two Step 4. Granny 5. Stay (Wasting Time) 6. #40 7. Long Black Veil 8. Don't Drink The Water 9. Intro To... 10. All Along The Watchtower |
i'm a dumbass
i actually have listener supported. (the only dmb cd i don't have is Recently).
I suppose I should break that disc out again and give it another listen. I've been so preoccupied with the new stuff i forgot about that. LOL It'll be nice to have live versions of the songs from everyday. what a world of difference it makes when the band is actually allowed to play, rather than accompany in those songs. |
Leslie-
I am actually getting a copy of the Las Vegas shows burned. My brother's friend worked the show and has them. As some of you rabid fans may know Dave and the boys did an AMAZING rendition of Everyday/36 that the audience ran with at the Saturday show. (this was back in May) The audience kept singing "Honi Honi, come and dance with me" for like 15 minutes, forcing the band to come back on stage and take the song up again. It was INSANE! So, according to my brother's friend, Dave was BLOWN AWAY by this and vowed to give a kickin show on Sunday night--which he absoulutely did, opening with some great classics like - Tripping Billies, Granny, Satellite, Jimi Thing, Minarets, etc.... I've seen Dave MANY times (incl. 4 times in that one week!) and my brother and his friends have seen him close to 20 times and we all agreed this was the BEST performance we'd ever seen! Can't wait to get my hands on that disc!!!! Amy |
OK, I'm slow, but why is DMB releasing ANOTHER live show from the BTCS era? We already have Listener Supported.
Why not release something from the 2000 tour that had so much of the Lillywhite songs on so many of the set lists??? Did you guys see him on the Tribute to Heroes telethon?? I got to see both my boyfriends that night with Dave and Jon Bon Jovi both performing. :D |
Hey Amy!!! I saw him. I got so giddy when I saw him on the tv. I sat there like a silly little girl grinning!!!! LOL. I have such an addiction to that man.
Allison |
ha ha Allison, I did the same thing, and kept saying I LOVE THIS MAN over and over and my best friend was all "He sure makes funny faces when he's singing" I wanted to kill her. LOL

Did y'all catch VH1's fan club--
OK how sad am I-- I had a DATE and I scheduled it so I'd be home in time to watch it!!! ha ha And--I've watched other Fan Clubs and thought - "Gawd these people are freaks" But I'm watching the DMB one and thinking the people were totally sane and that I should have been on it-- I have all those ealry 90's Charlotsvile concerts on tape, too--etc. ha ha ha ha ha ha I loved it! Can't wait to see it again and again! It is SICK how happy I get when I hear their music!!!!!!! :D Amy |
Amycat, you're not the only one! My parents were in town this past weekend for Homecoming, and my little brother called me from the hotel to say Dave was on TV. :) Obviously, my whole family is clued in on the obsession. Then my poor mom proceeded to get on the phone and talk to me but I was long gone....absolutely in a daze, mesmerized by Dave on the screen! Sometimes I worry myself... Everyone getting excited about the new album coming out tomorrow???
|
I'm exctied about the new album, but STILL wishing it was a Summer 2000 live album, not another BTCS one. :) I'll LOVE it anyway, so why I'm complaining, who knows! LOL
So I heard a rumor that DMB is playing Madison Square Garden Dec 29 and 31. OK. Even though I'm in Los Angeles, if this is true, I MUST GO. :) I've already booked my cousin in NY's couch for the weekend and called my brother to tell him to start saving $$ for airfare. :) Amy |
I'm so lucky :)
Today after I got off work, I stopped by the record store before I came home. I went in and asked the clerk if the new DMB album was coming out tommrrow. He said yeah. So I asked if they were having a midnight sale like they did when the Everyday album came out. He said no:( So then he turn around and shows me the album and I'm all can I buy it today. He was all I'm not suppose to and then proceeded to ring the cd up. So I'm all, if it's going to get you in trouble, I can wait 24 hours. He was like no that will be $20 and some change. It's 18.99 plus tax. So I got to take Dave home a day early :) I have the new Dave cd. :D
|
That's cool!!!! I am so broke this week, I'll have to wait to get it. :(
|
have you guys checked out the nancies.org message boards? they are same format as GC. I am username LoveDMB412 on them. :)

Glad you're keeping our man happy. :) He'll have to wait a week for my adoration! But, rumor has it I may be getting tapes of the two Vegas shows this weekend from my brother's friend who was a production assistant at the shows. I hope I hope I hope so!!!!! |
HA....I got the new one..because my friend works at Atomic and he rawks!!!! LOL.....only I don't really feel special because in less than 5 hours many stores in many towns will be having their famous midnight sales!!!!
|
Makeda and Blaine,
Y'ALL SUCK!!!!!!! :D Just joking!!! I'm so jealous that y'all got copies of the cd early. Better yet...why didn't y'all get me one too. I'm with Amy on this one though...Allison has no money so Dave will have to wait. :( How is the cd so far??????? Let me know!!!!!! Allison |
OMG!!!!
Amy and Allison,
You guys need to hurry up and get some money. The new live album is sooooo Amazing. Crash in to Me and Stay aren't that great, but All Along the Watchtower, and the Last Stop are wonderful. I say that this album ranks right up there with Live at Red Rocks |
:) Wow! Thanks for the review!! I can't wait to get it. Maybe this weekend, looks like $$ may not be as dire as I thought yesterday. LOL
Been listening to Floodzone 7/8/92 and Lillywhites all day. GAWD I LOVE GRACE IS GONE! :D And spent WAY too much time on the Warehouse and nancies.org message boards reading about how great Live in Chicago is! Maybe I can write a check... LOL |
I have to talk of dave!!!
I know I've fallen off the face of the planet but with ya'll chatt'n it up about dave, I MUST chime in.
I'm with Amy. I have so much live stuff (thanks in part to amy's suggestions) that I need live stuff from beyond btcs. But i'll take what I can get. I'm not sure when the disc is coming out in Canada, but I'll pick up whatever day it is, FORSUURE!!! Crash in to me is one of my faves, so i'm disappointed to hear it's not that great on teh cd. Oh well, it's dave. I'll take him, bad recordings and all :). I wish he was com'n by toronto some time :(. Oh well, at least I have another disc to listen to! l btw, allison, you still lov'n lillywhites? |
