piercings

I'm wondering what all of you think about body piercings. Do you have any yourself? What do you think when you see someone with piercings? I personally have my labret pierced, and I did have my septum pierced, but I took it out.

Hootie 04-29-2001 08:46 PM

I've had my ears pierced of course multiple times in the same hole because of them growing shut over time. I got my cartilage pierced when I was a frosh in college and for a whole year I could not sleep on the side that had been pierced...at least not comfortably. And I couldn't take it out because it would grow shut if I tried. So all and all, not a wonderful experience and rather stupid now that I'm older.
I was gonna get my belly button pierced while I was in Reno over Spring Break but it was too far away from where we were staying. And since I've been back I haven't given it another though until now, so I suppose I was gonna do it, JUST to do it.
I do have a tatoo so I have done some wilder things other than my cartaliage...but I guess it depends on how badly you want the piercing and if you'll be comfortable showing it off.
Furthermore I'd like to remind you that someday you WILL go out into the workforce and most places frown upon piercings...including too many in the ear. So I'd keep that in mind.
Good luck with your decision.

I have my belly button pierced & my ears pierced once. I like eye brows piercings, on certain people. Little studs on the outsude of the nose look cute on the right person. It all depends on your style. Piercings can be taken out, so it isn't forever. Other peoples' piercing don't bother me much. I didn't really like all the pictures of female genitalia piercings when got my belly button done, but hey, to each their own!

gibbonsgal 04-29-2001 09:39 PM

Piercings ahh love them. I love the bad boy image so of course piercings are up there on my list of turn ons. Noticed a lot more guys having both ears pierced which I didn't like @ first but now thing is SO awesome. Boys from Crazy Town...love their piercings. When I got my navel pierced it was such a rush for me. Or maybe it was just the pain. Anyways...I want more!

KillarneyRose 04-29-2001 09:54 PM

I have a single piercing in each ear and I also have my bellybutton pierced. Believe it or not, I was 32 when I got my bellybutton done. I had worked my butt off to reacquire a nice, tight tummy after I had two babies and it was my way of celebrating http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

OK, here's a little piece of trivia....

I have NEVER had any part of my body pierced, including my ears. (I'm in my early 30's) So many people just trip when they realize I have "virgin ears"! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif It comes in handy if I am playing "I Never."

IowaHawkeye 04-29-2001 11:09 PM

Since I'm such a rebel http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif
I have both ears double pierced, my cartilage pierced in my left ear, and my belly button pierced. My boyfriend ried to con me into getting my tongue pierced, but i don't think so :P

Unregistered- 04-29-2001 11:56 PM

I used to have my belly button pierced...but it became too much of a hassle that I took it out.

I had my nose pierced but I took that one out too.

I had my cartilage pierced once on each ear, but only one's left because the other one formed a keloid (it's damn gross I tell you).

The only one left is my tongue ring and I've had that for 3 years already.

I have both my ears pierced, which grow back on a regular basis. (So when I want to wear earrings, I just shove them through the scar tissue... it doesn't even hurt anymore).

I got my navel pierced about 5 or 6 years ago. I have never gotten an infection, and didn't take super-good care of it (nothing extraordinary).

I've wanted my eyebrow pierced since high school, but haven't done it mostly out of respect for my mother (who hates any kinds of piercings on anyone).

I love guys with piercings. Except the nose, for some reason?

Guess I'm just a rock star at heart http://www.plaudersmilies.de/party/ylsuper.gif

I only have my ears pierced, one hole in each ear. I am actually against piercing anywhere else on my body. If other people want to pierce elsewhere then more power to them. My best friend got her cartilage pierced and she also had trouble sleeping on her side. Then puss started coming out, and then it turned red, then it would bleed.... it was very nasty. I felt bad for her, but it got better over time. So, i only have two holes total and im happy with that. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

juniorgrrl 04-30-2001 11:41 AM

Lately, I've been obsessed with the idea of piercing my navel, but I'm too chicken to do it. Also, I know my entire family would think badly of it, so I would never want to disrespect them by doing it.

I got a clip on, but it fell off within 10 minutes! LOL! So much for that http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I've thought about cartilidge but I've been told it hurts so badly I've given up on that idea.

Ever since I turned 21, I've realized that I've been too goody goody my whole life and kind of want to do something crazy - but not permanent. Who knows, maybe I will...

Monique 04-30-2001 11:45 AM

Hey. I got my eye brow pierced in college a year ago. The results: I Broke Out SO BAD I had to go to the hospital. Now the only thing i have pierced is my ears. No more piercings for me. They can have it.

veruca76 04-30-2001 02:16 PM

I had the top cartiledge in my ear pierced for years. It didn't really give me many problems until recently - I developed a big 'ole lump of scar tissue (according to my dermatlogist.) It was so painfull to sleep on that side that I had to take it out.
I also had my tongue pierced last year. (Spontaneous thing while backpacking through Europe.) I got bored with it and took it out when I got home. It was only in for six months but I still have a little lump on the underside of my tongue. To anyone considering the tongue piercing - people tried to tell me it wouldn't hurt that bad but it was horrible! Swollen as all heck for two days then difficult to eat for an entire week.

ilovemyglo 04-30-2001 02:40 PM

I have my navel done, and I did it my frosh year in college. My mom told me that only sluts have that done.. I laughed cause my dad said it was cute.I have had it for three years and I love it! I also have double piercings in my ears and my cartilage.. I wanted my tongue but naah... my mom would KILL ME!!! So... The navel piercing didn't hurt, the clamp does, though, cause of how tight it is!! Ouch! The needle didn't bother me!

finest_alum 04-30-2001 05:05 PM

I had my nose pierced, but, alas, had to take it out to get a "real" (and I use that word lightly...) job.
I miss it!!

I have my cartilage pierced and my tounge. I love both of them. If any one is considering getting thier tounge pierced, I say go for it. I was so easy. It hurt like hell for about two days then nothing. It was completely fine. It gives me something to do in class, and in other situations.

TechADPI 05-02-2001 03:48 PM

I already have my ears pierced two times in each ear, and I want to get my cartilage pierced and the piece of ear cartilage that pokes out by your temple. (Several girls have that done and it looks really cute.) This summer I am going with one of my sisters to get my tongue pierced and belly button pierced. I am nervouse about what my mom will say though. She told me I could get a tattoo but NO TONGUE PIERCING!!

IowaHawkeye 05-02-2001 04:02 PM

when i had my cartilage pierced, it didn't hurt at all! it never once bothered me or became infected or anything - maybe i'm just lucky - but newbie - i wouldn't worry! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Okay...stupid me -- I know the labret is somewhere on/near the lips -- what is the septum? I looked both up in the dictionary and all septum said was a separation of tissues.

What is that chin thing people have going on - I think its totally disgusting because it looks like a big zit or something, and then you look again and its pointy or whatever. ugghhh - and how do you pierce that part? Through your mouth I guess - dunno.

I have double pierced ears - mom about died when I got the seconds (even though I was a junior in college!). I would like to have a belly button ring (but my belly isn't ready for that yet - I have some shrinking to do first!) Heard funny stories about pregnant women and belly button rings (I just love the phrase "Belly Button" -- how cute it sounds!)

I would love to have my tongue pierced, but I am a big huge sissy when it comes to pain.

I am really swamped at work -- have been since I walked in the door Monday - yet I have time to mess around and come here to chat -- we need to set up a GC fund to assist our friends who get fired for being on GC too much at work! YIKES! I'd be first in line! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I have my ears pierced and my tongue pierced. I had my ears done when I was like 4 or 5 yrs old. I got my tongue pierced 2 years ago. I love it. It did hurt like hell for a couple of days and I couldn't eat anything solid for a week. But it's all gravy now http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I kinda want my navel done, but I'm being a big scaredy cat about it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

I've had my ears pierced three times ...and that is just in the "normal place" when I was 5 I was wrestlin' and my earings kinda got rippied outta my ears...then they were done again and I let them grow over...then the last time they were peirced I wore these gold hoops for so long and they were so heavy (and from my first earring mishap) oone of them tore through my ear and fell out. My ear is still kinda torn....
I had the cartiledge done in one ear and I sympathize with everyone who has had probelms...first time I changed it it was bleeding so much and hurt so much I decided to just drive the earring in...and you guessed it...kinda torn something up there. From time to time it still hurts.
After all this trouble you would think I would stop, but until recently I wanted a tounge ring. Went with my (real) little sis and saw it done. Thanks but no thanls! I'll stick with tatoos! I know they are permanent, but they are addictive! I have two now! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

The labret is "that chin thing". I just took my out because it started to irritate my gums. They pierce it through your mouth, on the line between your chin and your bottom lip. It doesn't really hurt as much as you think it would.

The septum is the middle part of your nose. That doesn't really hurt too much either, it just stings.

I just got tired of both piercings, so I took them out. Piercings were just a phase that I went through. So I got it out of my system, for the most part.

I have my cartilage pierced, and I have double holes in my ears. The first holes are stretched, and it's not too drastic or extreme, so I'm going to keep them.

Killarney,
That's so funny! Hey, we're not TOO far away (I'm in MI)...I was actually out your way last weekend (Towson to be exact). Getting my tongue pierced wasn't bad. It didn't hurt going in at all. It was the AFTER that was the killer. But as long as you eat a lot of ice, you'll be fine http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif How was the navel piercing?

tigerbaby 05-05-2001 03:32 AM

It makes me cringe when I read about the cartilage problems that some of you have had. I have three piercings in my ears and my left cartilage pierced, and I've luckily never had problems with any of them. I've never had a desire to get anything on my face pierced, but I think it looks good on some people, or suits them I guess. One girl in my sorority has her eyebrow pierced and it does not look good. She holds a very high position on our e-board. Do you think it's appropriate to ask her to take it out during rush?

CRMSNTiDEGRL717 05-06-2001 09:56 PM

I have 3 holes in each of my earlobes and i really want the cartilage pierced. I also have my belly button pierced, it did not hurt bad at all. i got it done in september and its been completely healed since mid december. I do really want my tongue pierced but my mom told me NO MORE HOLES!!

When getting your cartilage pierced the people tell you how to take care of it yada yada yada...even though I did follow the instructions carefully I still got that damn gross ass keloid on my ear. I know that not everyone has that happen to them...but before you get yours done I should email you a picture of my hideous scar...which I will eventually have to get surgically removed. With all this drama with my ear it's safe to say that getting it done wasn't worth it.

You think that way about all piercings? that's a pretty big generalization, of course most of what you've said have been big generalizations...

I have 2 sets of piercings in my ears. I also have the cartilage in my left ear pierced, and my navel pierced. I used to have problems with infections with my ears (I think due to types of earrings though, because I no longer have any problem) but I've never had an infection in my navel piercing, and I've had it for 2 years.

StaC 05-31-2001 05:34 PM

I have 3 piercings in each of my ears on the normal part and I have my cartilage pierced in my left ear. I've had it for nearly 3 years and have never had any problems. I actually thought that it hurt less to get than when I got my other ear piercings... maybe it's just me though. Sorry to hear that so many people have had trouble with the cartilage piercings.

Hootie 06-09-2001 01:55 PM

I DID IT
I got my belly button pierced last night. I went after work with my coworker and just did it. It was different alright. I didn't know what to expect and of course I couldn't look. I was really tense but the kid that did it was super nice and made it easier for me to relax. No tears either so yeah.
Now I'm just worried about keeping it clean and what not. Kinda sucks because I won't be able to wear tight clothes for awhile...like I don't know what I'm going to do for work since pantyhose will probably bug the hell outta it. Oh well.

I had to also mention a really weird piercing I saw once. I work at a jewelry store and this woman came in, who was probably in her 50's, and she had her NECK pierced. It was done on the more loose portion of the neck kinda by the collar bone. Well she was looking for a jewel to put on it, like a diamond. I couldn't stand looking at it. It was so gross and just disgusting. YUCK.

Thanks Kevin. I laughed because my parents came home and I greeted them at the door with my shirt slightly pulled up revealing what I'd done. My dad barely looked at it and my mom goes...That looks like it hurts. My 15 year-old sister was like, ew gross it looks infected. But she wants to get hers done too so she was pretty excited that I did it.

I finally got the guts to move the little ball and stuff. I was afraid it'd hurt. It wasn't too bad though. My coworkers couldn't believe I did it. LOL. Oh well, I suppose I like to look all conservative and innocent...but deep down I'm a rebel. LOL.
