Jimi Hendrix and The Doors

Are there any Jimi Hendrix or The Doors fans on greekchat? Or is it just me?:)

macallan25 04-22-2008 02:21 PM

Big fans of both. Absolutely.

DSTCHAOS 04-22-2008 02:54 PM

Fans of both but like The Doors more.

Born Under A Bad Sign, Voodoo Chile Blues and Hear My Train comin' are my favorites by Jimi. I like all of his music, but those are the best.

Hello I love you, and Light my fire by The Doors are two of my favorites. I really like the long version of light my fire.

I listen to Jimi's traditional/improv blues material more than anything from his catalog . Up From the Skies, Machine Gun, South Saturn Delta, etc. etc. Big Band of Gypsys fan as well.

The Doors? Hyacinth House, Soul Kitchen, Back Door Man, Whiskey Bar, Car Hiss By My Window, Peace Frog, Roadhouse Blues, When the Music's Over...........few that I like. Morrison Hotel is probably my favorite studio album from them. I really like that they are starting to release live shows from their concert vault.

I love both of the bands/artists mentioned.

The long version of Light my Fire is a classic.

I agree with RU...
Noise?!

Jimi Hendrix's purple haze, foxy lady, all along the watchtower and so many more... The Doors are just...amazing...

I have only recently rediscovered my love for all things classic rock...:D

i don't call this music classic rock because of the mittigating circumstances of the time, although i consider them to be rock and many songs are classic

classic rock to me =boston, lynard skynard, led zeplin, from the 70's but proto 80's haircuts, rolling stones, etc.

I have gotten sick of some bands, but I have never ever ever gotten sick of the Doors. They are still one of my favorites.

DSTCHAOS 04-23-2008 05:08 PM

^^^ The Doors are timeless.

Pretty Boy is such an 80 year old in a 30something body. LOL.

So do I.

ETA: I love classical and am (somewhat of) a classically trained pianist. I don't like jazz.

Good lord man,

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Led Zeppelin

....and I've got to say, I have no idea how you can't consider Hendrix or The Doors classic rock.....but you can consider the Stones and Zeppelin? They all rose to fame around the exact same time.

tinydancer 04-23-2008 07:22 PM

I like both, especially The Doors. It's funny to say that I remember when both were "new" bands!;)

yeah but it's different

and i would put Led Zepplin first 4 or 5 albums with Hendrix and the Doors, if we were really splitting hairs.

I consider the Doors and Hendrix to be rock, and their music is classic, but I don't really see at as "classic rock" in the same sense. I don't know. The Kinks were from the same time period as was (that other band I just forgot) but I wouldn't call them "classic rock"

Maybe because it is the aesthetic or the sound, i don't really know. I defintely like the Doors/Hendrix/Kinks/Early Zep better than Boston, etc.

I think my opinion on this is influenced primarily by the fact that all four classic rock stations will only play stones, the who, then stones, then aerosmith, then stones, then maybe if i'm lucky some zep, then stones, then boston (at least five times a day [that song was less than a feeling]) then more stones.

The Doors and Hendrix and The Kinks and Janis Joplin and the Velvet Underground (the last two were the ones I couldn't think of before) were discoveries that I made on my own, and came with much less "yeah, we're awesome, don't you think our band is the best" type attitude when I listened.

But what is classic rock? When do we start and stop? Nirvanna to me (and others) is classic. But that's too late. The Beatles were great, and arguably with out them, no bands would be writing their own songs. But they were too early.

This discourse is interesting.....would be better if we had a turn-table and some records. Talking about music is like reading...about music. You can try to justify it, or describe a sound, but without hearing it, it's just words.
