Favorite Disney Ride

Okay, all you Disney fans, I'd like to know what your favorite ride is at the Magic Kingdom!

Mine is the Pirates of the Caribbean--love the ambience plus that little roller coaster at the beginning!

AlphaChiGirl 05-13-2001 03:32 PM

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, followed by Space Mountain. At MGM, I like the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror...fun!

Glad I'm not the only Disney nut out there http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain and the Mattahorn are definately my top 3, followed by Space and Splash Mountain, then the Haunted House.

Lots-a-Heart 05-13-2001 05:26 PM

Wicked topic as I was just in Orlando over Spring Break (although I was in California as a child)! So my fave rides are:
1. Haunted Mansion and Matahorn Mountain (CA)
2. Buzz Lightyear (Only at Magic Kingdom - Florida)
3. Dinosaur (Animal Kingdom - and even though I made EVERYONE go on it twice, I didn't open my eyes to see the t-rex!)
4. A Bugs Life (Animal Kingdom)
5. Splash Mountain (First time on it was in Orlando and we were at the top at night, so for a quick second we saw the park lit up!)

Oooh! I forgot about A Bug's Life, it is so hysterical when that stink bug gets mad and sloooowly starts turning around towards you and you KNOW what's going to happen!

And the Haunted Mansion is neat too. I posted a link to its own site on "Cool Sites" on GC in January!

AKA2D '91 05-13-2001 08:10 PM

Space Mountain. It had me crying throughout the ordeal, but afterwards, I got right back on, like nothing EVER happened.

I loved that ride, dude! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Miami1839 05-13-2001 08:34 PM

I loved the Magic Kingdom as a kid. Still do, but I havent been there in years. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif When I was a kid my parents took me to Disneyland often and to TokyoDisneyland also. I've been to DisneyWorld once and that was around the time I graduated from H.S. Whenever I went with my grandmother we had the greatest time on Pirates of the Carribean http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Its still my favorite to this day. Haunted House is second on my list. The Great Old Jamboree with the Bears? It wasnt a ride but that was a big fav of mine. Space Mountain was up there. I first went on it when I was 8 I think. My Dad tricked my Mom and I to ride on it. I really wasnt into roller coasters until Junior High so my first time on that ride wasnt that great *L* I do enjoy it now though and Star Tours I believe.

I've always loved It's a Small World (and I just found out that the BF is a closet fan too)...but my newest favorite ride is Indiana Jones. We rode that thing till our butts started to hurt just so we could go through the three different doors.

I was watching Star Wars today and realized that I left Star Tours off my list of fave disneyland rides http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.

moe.ron 05-14-2001 06:04 AM

The Star Tour. Since I'm a star wars freak (dressed up as Princess Leia for the premier of Phantaom Menace, call me a freak), that got to be my fave. I also like the virtual arcade near Fantasy Island, next to the circus thingy. When I went there, it was like one price for everything. Me and couple of my brothers were beating each other up in arcades for about 10 hours, we left with our eyes bloodshot. Spend a whole day indoor during spring break.

AXO Alum 05-14-2001 09:33 AM

No fair, Carnation - you know I'm a Disney Junkie!!

Fav's:
Pirates of the Caribbean

Space Mountain

Splash Mountain (love the roller coaster hill going into the Laughing Place)

Big Thunder Mountain (ride in the back - it sucks up front because the momentum doesn't pick up)

Peter Pan

Mr. Toad -- don't get me started!! The Pooh ride is fun and all, but I loved my Mr. Toad!

Geez...why even bother, other than the teacups, there's not much there I don't ride or go do.

I love "Its Tough to be a Bug" and "Dinosaur" -- the Asia rapids ride SUCKS! Its like taking a shower with your clothes on -- no real hills or anything. Also - the Kilamanjaro Safari ride would be better if they didn't pull out the cheesy-ness of the poachers getting after Big Red.

MGM - love the shows - not a roller coaster rider so I lay off the Tower of Terror (I've done it though) or the Rock'n Roller Coaster ("Chicken of the Me") - Star Tours is pretty good.

EPCOT - Test Track - only ridden once -- I am not waiting in line for 2 1/2 hours for a 60 second ride. Fast Passes were even gone by 9:30, the past 2 times we've been. I like all the stuff at EPCOT, except for Body Wars - that ride just makes me green - even when I close my eyes, I can't ride it. Oh - Ellen's Universe of Stupidity is the biggest 45 minute waste of time too.

Here's some scoop on the Animal Kingdom thing - originally it was supposed to have a Dinosaur theme for the whole park -- including some big coasters and stuff like that. Well a designer got ticked off and quit Disney, and went to Universal Studios and sold his ideas to them -- his idea is now called "Universal Studios - Islands of Adventure" -- big poo-poo on Disney's part. They are now re-grouping to redesign the back half of Animal Kingdom and come up with their own version. (Man I love knowing people who work behind the scenes and aren't afraid to spill http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif )

dzrose93 05-14-2001 10:03 AM

Big Thunder Mountain!!! It's the only roller coaster I'll ride and not be terrified on! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

heatherh1981 05-14-2001 11:32 AM

Ohhhh i love walt disney world. i have been twice both times i felt like i was 10 years old (actullly i think i was 10 when i went the first time) Anyway the last tiem i went was about 4 years ago. My favorite rides are Peter Pan's great adventure and Its a small world. The last time i went Spash Mountain opend. it was so much fun. I love that place!!

Sisterplum 05-14-2001 01:56 PM

Well, since I was there this past Feb with Sarah (Lots-a-heart...who posted above) my list is kinda the same but oh well!

1. Buzz Lightyear! I love Buzz and a whole ride dedicated to him...woo hoo!

2. Splash Mountain....love the water ride!

3. Tea Cups! We had soooo much fun on that ride!

I'd have to say my biggest let down was Space Mountain....I thought it was gonna be in pich blackness, but I could see everything! Ah well! I still love Disney! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

splash mountain has been my favorite since 5th grade, but I rode space mountain for the first time this past christmas, and I loved it!

Sisterplum 05-14-2001 05:42 PM

Oooh...I forgot how fun the Dinosaur ride was at Animal Kingdom...I don't know why Sarah and our friend Amanda were so scared of the T-rex at the end!

Y'all should have seen the pics of us on the ride...they were covering their eyes and cuddling together they were so scared!

Hey...it was a fun time though right Sarah?! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Alright this sucks...my reply just got deleted. Second try...

Thanks Carnation for the topic...it's one of my fave topics in the world!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

At Disneyland, I love:

The Matterhorn Bobsleds--There is nothing like this ride!! You literally feel like you're gonna fall off the icy mountain, off the cliffs. It feels so thrilling. Especially at midnight! I think you would enjoy this ride most at night...especially since the tunnels are full of pitch darkness then, and you don't know WHERE you are going to end up! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. I went on this 5 times in one day--that's how much I loved it!

Space/Splash Mtn.--Worth the 2-hour waits (literally!)

Big Thunder Mtn. Railroad--one of my fave roller coasters...sitting in the front car is so fun!! You really can't give this ride justice unless you ride at night--it's 10 times funner then, since you don't know when you're about to drop into the darkness! It's actually rumored to go much faster at night.

Astro Orbitor (Rockets)..you know, those rockets that you can maneuver on your own. I love that I can steer the rocket into the sky however high I want to be, and I can turn myself sideways into the sky too! Definitely not for those afraid of heights, or for those who want to get out quickly...again, one of those rides that are 10 times better at night. (If you ride it in the day-time, it goes really slowly - not very fun compared to nighttime.)

Autopia...You drive your car down a raceway. You go along curves, bridges...fun - though the car is hard to steer compared to real-life-cars. Plus you get to choose which kind of car you drive--a racecar, a coupe, or an off-road car. A really fun ride!

Snow White and Alice in Wonderland...I never get tired of these rides! The scenery in these rides is absolteuly amazing...it's so colorful!

Jungle Safari...it's perfect when it's dark, and b/c the river is peaceful and calm, it's the perfect romantic spot http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Tea Cups--all the way!!!

Hey, anybody remember the Mission to Mars or the 50,000 leagues under the sea--or the rocket ride???

And what about those"E" tickets?

Steeltrap 05-16-2001 11:58 AM

Yes, I remember Tea Cups! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
I also liked the Matterhorn,too.
But I didn't like Pirates of the Caribbean. Scary as all get-out.

USFSDTAlum 05-17-2001 12:51 AM

I'm not sure what it is called, and It seems relatively new, and its not really a ride, however I really like the "attraction" where the take the good bugs and they send them and it makes them big and mean, and then the lights cut out. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, Its in Tomorrowland across from the Front of Space Mountain (Orlando not Anaheim).

LeslieEMU 08-17-2001 01:06 PM

I love DisneyWorld!!! I could never pick one favorite ride!

Favorite Rides Include:
- Tea Cups
- Haunted Mansion
- The Movie Tour ride at MGM
- The water ride at Animal Kingdom
- Test Track at Epcot
- Peter Pan
- Small World
- Space Mountain
- Star Tours
- Thunder Mountain Railroad

See what you've done! Now I want to go to Disney! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

Prnces123 08-17-2001 01:26 PM

Oh my goodness, I am the biggest Disneyland freak!!! It is my favorite place in the world http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. I make my boyfriend take me all the time! Anyways, I have a funny story, We were at disnetland at christmas time, and we went on "it's a small world," well for those of you who have been there know that small world is a MAJOR attraction at christmas because they re-decorate it. There were these two kids on the back of a full boat, who couldn't have been more than 15. They were totally making out for the entire ride, as soon as we got inside. It was so funny, when they were making out the guy had his eyes open the whole time looking around, just checking out the scene. I swear they didn't come up for a breath. The boat in front of, behind, and the boat they were on, every person was making a comment and one mom covered her daughter's eyes. when we got off the ride all three boats of people started clapping and the girl that was part of the make-out sesh goes "Whatever" hell of loud and rolls her eyes. It was so funny, and we even made friends on the ride due to it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.

carnation 08-17-2001 02:09 PM

Y'all were talking about Small World being redecorated for Christmas--my husband's Disney magazine just came and Disneyland will be redoing the Haunted Mansion from October to January in a theme from that movie, "The Nightmare Before Christmas". There'll be black sleighs instead of Doom Buggies, weird Christmas gifts in the ballroom, a graveyard in snow, Jack Skellington in the graveyard instead of the caretaker, and several other changes that'll be on the www.disneyland.com website.

Thank you AXO ALUM for menetioning my all time FAVORITE ride, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!! And did you know they were auctioning off one of the cars on EBay??? I am so hoping for THAT for my b-day!! But I also loved the tea cups and space mountain! But ALWAYS, ALWAYS, Mr. Toads!!

ZTAMich 08-17-2001 11:36 PM

I was such a lucky child...my aunt and unlce live outside of O-town so I went to MK every summer just about. Now we live in Florida and get resident discounts. I have been there 3 times this year http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
I will always love the Tea Cups bc I have such great memories of it being the last ride we went on and my dad making it spin really fast. Since he only has one arm I was always amazed he could make it go so fast. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif It's a Small World is nice too.
Guess I'm a fan of the calm rides. But I have been on all three roller coasters!
The new ride Aladdin is fun too..like Dumbo but you can make the carpet tip forward or back along with it going up and down.
ahhh the list goes on...

Ok, I stumbled across thie old topic and just had to add my two cents. I LOVE Disneyland! I live 10 minutes away, so I practically grew up there. In high school, we all had annual passes, and our parents would just drop us off after school, because it's Disneyland, so they figured we couldn't get in too much trouble. But let me tell you, crazy sh!t happens there! One time, my friend and I were on the Haunted Mansion, and this voice comes oevr the loundspeaker and says "All guests must remain in an *upright* seated position. Thank you." We were cracking up!! And when we got off the ride, the girl in front of us was SO embarrased. Just remember, EVERYTHING at disneyland is monitered through video cameras, so no matter where you are, someone is watching you! (wow, that has such a big brother, 1984 ring to it!) Anyway, my favorite ride is definitely Thunder Mountain, although I'm also I huge fan of Tom Sawyer's Island Pirates of the Carribean...I still love that place; it always makes me feel like a kid again. Especially when they huge fireworks in the summer and they way they decorate the entire park at Christmas...aaawwwwww!

butterflyfancy 08-19-2001 05:38 AM

Anyone here work for Disney? I do!! I work in California Adventure and I know that it has a bad rep, but my favorite ride there is Mullholland Madness. It's this little mini-rollar coaster that's so much fun. It's weird because I've never been to Florida, but we have It's Tough to be a Bug at DCA too. I think that my favorite ride at Disneyland is Space Mountain followed by Splash Mountain and then Thunder Mountain.

Fun topic!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

kat24 08-19-2001 04:34 PM

i would definetly have to say that
1.splash mountain
2.indiana jones
i thought that evry ride there was brilliant and i had a truly magical time if anyone wants to chat just email me~!

Butterflyfancy--

How come California Adventures has a bad rep? We haven't heard about that out here!

Sunny 08-19-2001 08:09 PM

That's why it has a bad rap...they've been having serious problems with admission, and a lot of people haven't even headr of it

butterflyfancy 08-20-2001 04:17 AM

I guess out here, there are a lot of people resistant to new Disney and they didn't really like the park that much. There aren't as many rides and total attendance is a lot lower than they expected it would be. Bringing back the Electrical Parade helped a lot, but then this fall they're really cutting back hours. I never went in there until I started working there, but I like it and since I know all the things to do, I have fun when I go. I think that it will be better once they let people purchase 1 day park hopper passes. Also, we're opening a Who wants to be a Millionaire in September. And they're planning a light show with "baby" fireworks over Paradise Bay.

I guess just around So Cal, I kind of feel like I have to stick up for my park. I love California, so I really like all the areas of the park and what they represent. Anyway, I'm done babbling (for now http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif)

ees125 08-21-2001 05:03 AM

What a great topic! I am a Disney nut! I have more Goofy shirts and knick knacks than I can count. I don't think I can pin point one fav ride...EPCOT overall is my favorite, aside from the first view of walking through the gates in the Magic Kingdom and seeing Main St USA and the castle...awesome! I've been to Disney 6 times and each time is better and better...I turn into a little kid instantly. Last time I was there (Spring Break two years back with my boyfriend) we heard all about the property Disney is putting houses/condos on to buy and you'd be living in Disney basically...boy I wish I had the money!

Brandeis 08-21-2001 01:31 PM

Well, see, Brandeis is only interested in posting in alcohol-related threads

Anyhow, yes, the California Adventure doesn't have a great rep, but give it time...I'm sure it'll come around. I just heard it wasn't as fun as Disneyland - and it's all at the same price, so Disney's more worth it. I thought the replica of Golden Gate Bridge is absolutely GORGEOUS - I am so glad that it's there :D.

I for one, though, do want to visit Cali Adventure soon - just b/c I love my state and would love to see the rides about Hollywood, the Golden Gate Bridge, etc. etc.!

Butterflyfancy - you are soooooo LUCKY to be working for Disney :D. I envy you so much! To me, it really is the happiest place on earth :D.

GiantsChic 08-24-2001 02:11 AM

Newbie, you and me seem to have sooo much in common, lol- besides the whole giants thing, I absolutely love Disneyland! I want to go to summer school in l.a. (long beach or fullerton) and work at disneyland for a summer- i love it there so much and find it so magical- lol, i'd love to go there on my honeymoon :) hoping to get to vist a lot more when i move down to san diego... CA adventures is really cool... some of the rides aren't that great, but some are... i totally agree that you need to give it time cuz disneyland wasn't even that popular at first...

tickledpink 08-24-2001 03:45 PM

Space Mountain!

Sunny 08-24-2001 04:40 PM

GiantsChic-

DOn't know if you've already heard, but Disney offers a summer "internship" program for college students. They find you fairly reasonable housing and you work in one of the parks. I know people who've done it and absolutely love the experience. The group of interns is pretty close, and they plan all sorts of activities, socials, and even a few classes to keep things interesting. They recruit on a lot of CA campuses in march...if you have any questions, just emial me...I went through the whole interview process and realy wanted to do the program, but chose a different job...oh well. Hope this helps! BTW, there's a website at www.disneycollege.com :)
