New Fall 2007 Recruitment story!
 

:) Hello everybody! I am new to greek chat and have read some of the recruitment story posts and thought it would be fun to share my recruitment story from last semester, Fall 07! I knew that I wanted to participate in greek life but I went into recruitment knowing very little about the greek system and I didn't really know what to expect during the recruitment process.

On my campus there are five panhellenic council sororitys:
(in alphabetical order!)
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Phi
Delta Gamma
Delta Zeta
Kappa Delta

In no particular order:
Cinderella
The little mermaid
Sleeping Beauty
Snow White
Belle

Day 1: Sorority Forum day-chance to get to know each sorority briefly and meet a few of their members
I was so nervous on the first day! I didn't know what to expect or anything!

Sleeping Beauty: Right away what I noticed about these girls was their enthusiasm and excitement about recruitment. They seemed so genuine and ready for recruitment to begin but they were a little too perky for me! haha They were just so excited! The active sister I met was so nice and enthusiastic that she definitley helped calm some of my nerves. Definitley seemed like a fun group of girls but don't know if I could keep up with their enthusiasm!

Belle: These girls seemed like the stereotypical sorority of gorgeous model-type girls. Everyone that I had talked to wanted to pledge Belle. They had a beautiful house, chef and they were all beautiful so many girls wanted to be associated with such a beautiful group of women. although, I wanted them to like me, I didn't make a connection with any of these girls at forum and I was a little disappointed. The active sister was always looking around and looked bored when she was talking to me. After, I told her that I was going through recruitment alone ( my roommate dropped out at the last minute!) she said "Oh, so you don't have any friends right? that why your going through recruitment alone?" She came off as really rude and apathetic. Even with all this, I still liked Belle because they were a "good" house to join.

Snow White-The conversation here felt a little forced and just didn't flow the way that it did with Sleeping Beauty. The girl I met here was wearing twenty pounds of heavy makeup and seemed shy/quiet. Didn't care very much for snow white.

Cinderella-Instead of talking to us one one the way the other chapters did they had us get in a circle and play icebreaker games. I had a lot of fun with these women playing games and getting to know one another. They were full of energy but without going overboard.

Little Mermaid-I didn't really want to be associated with this chapter because of the gossip that I had heard about it. They didn't have the best reputation on campus. Even though, I ended up really liking the women I met here. They were hilarious, unique and the most diverse chapter on campus. They were literally cheering when we came into their room at forum. They all had a smile on their face. These girls seemed the most genuine and real compared to the other chapters. They were the most down to earth.

Yay! A new retro thread! You don't have my sorority, so I'll cheer for The Little Mermaid, since I think all PNMs should look past 'tent talk' to see the chapters for who they really are. :p

my daughter loves cinderella right now, so I'm going with them for now- can't wait for more!

That was very rude in my opinion of what that girl said. I am so excited to read a recruitment story at a college with Alpha Phi!

Well not everyone comes to college with their whole posse from high school.

That was a "beastly" thing for that sister to say. Pretty on the outside only...

This one looks good as well!! I used the princess namesfor my recruitment story too..hmm i think Im gonna vote for Little Mermaid!

Day 2: House Tours!
 

The second day of recruitment on my campus is house tours day! I was really excited to see all of the houses and looking forward to getting to meet a lot more active members.

In the order that my group visited the houses:

Belle
Sleeping Beauty
Cinderella
Little Mermaid
Snow White

Belle:I didn't have the best experience with Belle at forum but for some reason I still wanted to like them. This time I was paired up with a sister who was much more down to earth and friendly. The sister that talked to me at forum came up to me and hugged me but it didn't feel too sincere. They had a beautiful house with chef, maid, gardener etc. and many of the pnms were very impressed with this house.

Sleeping Beauty: I loved sleeping beauty on house tours day! I really clicked with the girl that I was paired up with. We never ran out of things to talk about and the conversation just flowed very well. I could definitely see myself just hanging out with the women here. There house was smaller but still beautiful and well decorated.

Cinderella-This time around I didn't care for cinderella as much. When we arrived, the active sisters came and picked up the pnm that they had been assigned for house tours. However, no one came to pick me up! I was really just standing there while the other pnm's had started to go on their house tour. Finally, one of the women saw me and started my house tour. She was bubbly and energetic but she had such a potty mouth that it was a little distracting! To her, everything was "so f*CKIN awesome". We couldn't seem to find anything to talk about after the usual small talk (whats your major? etc.)

Little Mermaid-There house was smaller and older than all of the other houses. The woman I was paired up with was so sweet! We both loved to dance so right away we had plenty to talk about. She was so genuine and excited to tell me about the little mermaid house, philanthropy, social events etc.! However, I think I was letting all the gossip get to me at this point and wasn't sure if I wanted to be associated with this house.

Snow White- There house was a lot farther from campus than any of the other houses. At this point we were all tired but still excited to be able to visit the last house of the day, Snow white. The women I was paired up with at snow white was so adorable and friendly. It turns out we both worked in food service and we had fun swapping stories about all the crazy customers that we met at our jobs. I like snow white a lot more this time around.

At the end of the day we had to rank our top 3 and list our bottom 2 houses.

This was the order I chose-
Sleeping Beauty
Snow White
Belle

And as my bottom 2...
Little Mermaid
Cinderella

Next day:Philanthropy Day!

Wow! I thought for sure it was Little Mermaid until the very end of your last post. I'll guess Sleeping Beauty now.

I'm on the west coast....&& greek life is not big on my campus!

I'm going for Sleeping Beauty!! Can't wait to hear what happens!

Philanthropy Day!!
 

On my campus, On philanthropy day the number of houses you go to drops from five to three for most girls. However, I was only invited back to two houses:( :

First Party-Sleeping Beauty
Second Party-Little Mermaid

I was glad that I was invited back to sleeping beauty but definitley a little surprised that I was invited back to Little Mermaid after I had put them in my bottom two. Did that mean that they really saw something in me if they invited me back after I ranked them so low? I was unsure about little mermaid at this point...I was a little disappointed not to be invited back to snow white because I really like that chapter. I didn't like cinderella so I didn't care about not being invited back there. I knew belle was a long shot but I was still a little disappointed to not be invited back.

:DSleeping Beauty- I was so happy that this house invited me back! I was definitley liking Sleeping Beauty at this point. At the Sleeping Beauty philanthropy day party, they had patio furniture with the big umbrellas set out so we could just relax in the sun and make some crafts for their philanthropy. (I would be more specifiic but it would give it away!) This time around I was paired with a different active sister than the one I had met the previous day. She was the little sister of the girl that I met in this house yesterday and the same girl from forum. She was friendly and we both realized we both loved disney! Their chapter was planning a trip to disneyland and I really hoped that I could be a part of this chapter at this point. I could definitley see myself hanging out with these women at disneyland or anywhere really. The girl I was with had to excuse herself for a second because she was chapter historian and she had to go set up the slide show. She left me with another girl from the chapter. she was nice but very quiet and reserved. Were a lot of sisters like this? It left me with some hesitation about whether this chapter as a whole would be a good match for me.

:confused:The Little Mermaid-Definitley shocked to be invited back here! I ranked them in my bottom two but I guess they liked me if they invited me back?! Little mermaid has a las vegas style theme for their philanthropy day. All the chips had a money value and they would donate that amount to thier national philanthropy. I was paired up with a different woman today. Right away we both realized that shared a love for dance. She belonged to a particular dance company that I had been interested in joining for a long time but never had the chance too. All the women I met this day were funny, outgoing and went out of there way to make sure all of the pnm's were having a good time. Even though I had some hesitation of whether or not I liked this house in the beginning, this chapter was at the top of my list tonight.

So after philanthropy day....

I ranked Little Mermaid first, and Sleeping Beauty second but I actually really liked both of them at this point!:)

Next Day:Preference Day!!

Can't wait for prefs.

Preference Day!!
 

:)Finally it was time for preference day! I was invited back to the two houses that I went to for philanthropy day; Sleeping Beauty and Little Mermaid. At this point there were pros and cons to both houses. I was so torn between both of them. Here's what happened on preference day:

:)Sleeping Beauty-We all know that preference is a much more serious and somber day to reflect on what house you can see yourself in. At sleeping beauty, I was paired up with a sister I had never met before. She was very sweet and our conversation went from small talk to deep and meaningful right away. We both came from similar backgrounds and were both the daughters of immigrants. She told me about all the different ways that her sisters were there for her. I remember they served us all these chocolate covered strawberries that looked delicious but I didn't even eat mine because I was so into the conversation. After our talk, we were led to another room so that we could witness a small part about what their rituals and sisterhood is all about. I made sure to tell the woman that I talked with how much I liked sleeping beauty and what they stood for. I was loving sleeping beauty at this point.

:)The Little Mermaid-I came to the little mermaid party after the sleeping beauty preference party. I came here already thinking that I was in love with the sleeping beauty chapter but I still really liked little mermaid. I was paired up with the same girl from house tours but today we managed to connect on a much deeper level. We both came from similar families that didn't approve of sororities or greek life. However, she was able to get through it and eventually her family respected the little mermaid even if they didn't love it. Their sisterhood preference ceremony was a lot more emotional than sleeping beautys. Many women were crying and you could definitely tell that these women really cared about one another on a deeper and meaningful level. After the preference ceremony, I got another chance to talk to the girl I was paired up with. I told her how torn I was between two houses but she reassured me that it would work out and I would end up in the house that was meant to be. It was definitely what I needed to hear at that point

:confused:I was so torn between both houses and I had no idea which house I would rank first. I could see myself in either house. The little mermaid didn't have the biggest house but it felt the most real even though it didn't have the best reputation. Sleeping Beauty had a gorgeous house and was full of wonderful women but I was a little apprehensive on whether or not I could connect with all the women in that chapter.We were told to rank any of the chapters we could see ourselves in. Many pnms decided to suicide one chapter. I could see myself in either one. After much deliberation I decided to rank them like this:

Rankings:

1. Sleeping Beauty
2. Little Mermaid

Next Day: BID DAY!!! The day I had been waiting for!!

Bid Day! The day I had been waiting for!
 

house tours, preference etc. were all fun but we all know that one of the most exciting days of recruitment is bid day! The day where you finIally got to go to your new home!

I remember that bid day was on a monday and it was supposed to start at 4pm! That was one of the longest days ever! I couldn't wait to find out what house I would end up in..I arrived around 3:45pm (could you tell I was excited?) and there were already a huge line of girls waiting. On my campus, we met with our Rho chi's individually and they gave us our bid cards. It was done privately just in case someone didn't get a bid or didn't like their house. Finally my Rho chi called me in...she sorted through the envelopes and handed me mine....The sorority that gave me a bid was....
