While I don't particularly agree with or use this nickname - I have a lot of friends at the University of Illinois who refer to Illinois State University (ISU) and I Screwed Up (ISU) b/c those that go to ISU go there b/c they weren't accepted anywhere else

HeidiHo 05-29-2001 03:11 PM

I had a friend who flunked out of his first school and he went to Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) in Springfield, IL. Or as he called it, Loser's Last Chance College. But he got back into his original school a year later and ended up graduating, so at least the story has a happy ending.

Well . . . as a hawkeye, I figured you could use some good Iowa State (also ISU) nicks - a lot of my buddies refer to it as "Moo U" due to its ag-tech program, plus some other, less appropriate ones; good fodder for Hawk's Nest chants i'm sure.

Siobhan 05-29-2001 10:21 PM

I haven't heard of any good names for UBC, however people have changed aroung out motto a bit: UBC's motto is tuum est - it's yours; however students tend to prefer the twisted version: up yours!

ZTAMich 05-29-2001 10:51 PM

I've heard Ithaca College called IK instead of IC by the people on the other side of the hill at Cornell...

RedHotChiO 05-29-2001 11:55 PM

They also call the University of New Orleans, the University of No Opportunity. Some people are definitely going to take offense to this topic.

People say the same thing about the University of New Orleans, UNO, that its the University of No Opportunity.

People call Southeastern Louisiana University, SLU "Slow Learner's University"

I honestly haven't heard any deroggatory remarks about LSU! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif

I personally call LSU= Leasing State University since the school likes to privitize everything around here.

Here are a few other ones:

University of Louisiana@Layfayette= uhhh la la. When it use to be USL it was called University of Slow Learners.

McNeese University=McCheese University. My rommate just told me that one cause she use to got there.

DGPhoney 05-30-2001 01:51 AM

Haha USF, I hadn't heard that one for UMBC, my friends would kill me if I say it though who go to UMBC< but it's funy as hel.
I went to frostburg State in MD and some used to call it:Forgettable Stupid U and when they tried to take the S out of FSU, I am sure ya'll can figure that one. But I am a TU tiger now~~ Hey USF have u ever heard any for Towson U in MD

Cute topic, but I hope those that go/went to these schools are not offended! These are pretty well-known though...so it will be nothing new.

UC Irvine (UCI)--University of Chinese Immigrants (b/c the school is over 50% Chinese)...and this is not to offend any Chinese-Americans out there, b/c I am one!

USC--University of Spoiled Children

Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo-- SLO (from the first letters of San Luis Obispo ...supposedly a really pretty but REALLY slow town, with nothing to do.

HOWEVER, I will actually apply to all of these schools, as I think I would be happy at each one of these! (Not exactly sure about Cal Poly, though.)

I go to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, or IUP.

We used to be a huge party school, you couldn't even walk down the sidewalks of Fraternity Row 10 years ago, because they were so crowded with people. The nickname,
I Usually Party started then.

Well the school didn't like image and cracked down, and our party scene died, and now I hear people calling it
I Used to Party.

Oh well, the scene is picking up again, so IUP is still a great party school just not like it used to be, but what is?

USFSDTAlum 05-30-2001 09:26 AM

Hey DGPhoney:
No Way!!! I went to Towson for my freshman and sophmore years and then I transfered down here. I know a couple http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif for Towson, but they more applied to other things then how the letters went together. The first was everyone told me I was going to STD U because Baltimore has the highest rate of syphillis infected people in the country, and the second was (now this is in 97) Playboy U because Towson at that time was supposedly ranked 2nd on Playboy's list of Campuses with the most attractive girls.(Maybe there is a correlation .......)
I used to live in Tower C and I was moving into Glenmont when I decided not to go back.

DGPhoney 05-30-2001 11:00 AM

Oh wow, USF, small world, I was in tower c with some friends all his semester, too bad they chamged a lot of stuff around now. thats neat you were a TU tiger, or so they call us, lol. Yeah I remeber hearing about the playboy ranking, i think thats why MD guys sweat TU, oh well, STD U thats funny, I thought Frostburg Was that too.
Too Cool USF*

Indiana State (ISU) - I Screwed Up. I think people at Rose mostly call it that because a lot of the people that flunk out of Rose go to State. It's not a bad school though.

Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech (RHIT) - Rich Husbands In Training. Until about 7 years ago, it was an all male engineering school.

Hey DGPhoney, One of my bro's has a brother that goes to Towson, and is in the LCA colony there. Know any of them?

University of Richmond = University of Rich Kids

Oh....how true!

SoCalGirl 05-30-2001 09:23 PM

The first school I went to was TCC (Tidewater Community College) it was better known as "The Country Club". The campus was beautiful!

While I went there; most of my friends went to Longwood in Farmville. Of course everyone refered to it as Bongwood. Not much to do in Farmville!

Here in San Diego there's USD which is known as "The University of Spoiled Daughters".

I know SDSU has a few good ones but I can never remember them. AKAMonet might be willing to share. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Now my alma mater: UCSD

YOU CAN STUDY DRUNK!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif Of course if you're gonna study drunk, you better be taking you exams while drunk!

University of Central Florida: UCF- U Can't Finish. We have a HUGE problem with seniors who can't graduate because they're one class short. UCF's catalog is confusing and a lot of things are incorrect. For instance, they'll tell you not to take a certain class until your Junior year. If you listen to the catalog, you may end up screwing yourself bc the class was needed during your Soph. year bc it was a prereq for everything. You end up there for 5 years. A lot of our accounting majors get screwed bc they need to take American Government but it's not clearly defined to them in the catalog that it needs to be taken. They'll be all ready to graduate and it'll be their last semester of their Senior year when....oops...an advisor informs them that they have to stay there an extra semester and take BS classes bc they didn't take American Government. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif grrrrrr.....this happens ALL the time. Hence, U Can't Finish.

These are the only ones I know of for schools in Colorado:

CU - Boulder: California University
Over half my frosh dorm floor was from Cali

UNC - University No Credit

Western State College - Wasted State

You know - same lame, drug related jokes as everywhere else. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

AGDsexysmoker 06-01-2001 03:49 AM

I really shouldn't be sitting around thinking of terrible nicknames for my school, but since I was bored....

I hope those who go here or who are thinking about going here will forgive me

More Nicknames for LSU

Lack (of) Spending U(on things like improvements to housing and for teacher pay)

Lots (of) Spending U(to stay on campus, for books)

Lots of Stupidity U

Loaded Students U (people here tend to have a lot of money)

Little Studying U(since we were recently ranked the #1 party school by the Prinction Reveiw)

Lousy-ana State U

Louisiana Sucks U

Loss (of) Sanity U (cause after dealing with Res Life and other departments you are sure to lose your mind)

and my personal favorite Louisiana Screws U(because somehow, some way people get screwed at LSU)

editied because I just thought of 2 more

Leaves (the) State U- people who graduate(especially education majors) tend to find higher paying jobs out of state

Love (out-of)Staters U- out of state people tend to have an easier time getting money from LSU then in-state people

I go to NAU (Northern Arizona University) and I've heard tons of people call it Not A University. I guess it's because we have to compete with ASU and U of A, but it's really not a bad school! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I go to a small school called Longwood College. Some people simply call it "The 'Wood" and I've also heard it called "Bongwood." I'm not sure that name is very fitting, but whatever...

I've heard some people call Northern Illinois (where I go) as No Inhibitions University--in referring to the school's "party hardy rep"...

I also don't agree with this nickname but my ex told me some people call his school (University of Illinois-Chicago)--University of Indians and Chinks. And i don't even think that the asian minority in that school is that big. Uhh I hate derogatory remarks!

I go to SDSU (san Diego State University), and I haven't heard of any nicknames, buti have heard of some funny jokes:
*What is the first thing a SDSU girl does in the morning?
Walk home.
*How do you get a SDSU graduate off your front porch?
Pay him for the pizza.
*Why do they no longet serve ice at SDSU football games?
The senior who knew the recipe graduated.

I transfered to SDSU form a junior college, and there was a Targer next to it, so everyone called the school UBT- University Behind Target. I called it UBSD- University Before San Diego.

Just a little play on words...but for Penn State...the State Penn. This could be for one of two reasons...there is a prison about 5 minutes away, and also, since we are so far any major town, a lot of people feel trapped in nowhere.

mumbles026 06-12-2001 07:25 PM

I go to the University of North Florida and i've heard it called "U never finish" or "university of no fun" I've heard Univer. of central florida called "under construction forever"

Our school name is The University of Texas at San Antonio, but we are 25 minutes from downtown, in the woods. The re is nothing around us. So we call ourselves UT-Boerne, because we are closer to Boerne than SA.

Also, UT Sucks Ass or UT $hit Ass.

I really do like it here. Even though we dont have a football team, the joke is: "UTSA Football, Still Undefeated." But hey, We're Division I, so maybe someday.

lifesaver 08-16-2001 07:09 PM

Also, the Junior College here is called San Antonio College, or SAC for short. Everyone else calls it SLAC. OR San Pedro High, 'cause its on San Pedro Ave. Mostly burnouts go there.
