Sad: Member of Delta may have mad cow's disease

I just saw on the news that a 22 year old living in Portsmouth, VA may be dying of mad cows disease, the first possible human case in the US. The disease has not been confirmed, but so far medical tests indicate it may be a diagnosis of the disease. She is a graduate of VA State and a member of Delta (as indicated on the news). Anyway, just wanted to share what I saw on the news and hoping we can all lift her up in prayer.

Um yeah. why would the "news" have reported her sorority affiliation?

5Knowledge1913 04-09-2008 08:28 PM

I saw this. This is too sad. I hope that she gets well.

BTW, I don't know if her affiliation was in the news, but it was on a Delta listserv. That's how I found out.

So this is for real? :( I am suspicious of posts that do not cite the news source.

Yes.

She's an AH Soror. I believe Spring 2002 or something.

Thank you Chaos, Shid and Jon. This is indeed very sad. And my apologies to the OP.

It's very true. I spoke with one of her prophytes about this and saw the actual news story.

God bless Soror Aretha and her family.:(

An AH Soror told me she is Spring 07.

I saw the news story last night. The story showed a collage of her HS and college diplomas and a DST hat.

My prayers are with her.

ShawNuff 04-10-2008 10:45 AM

Sadly, news reports state that this sister passed away yesterday evening around 5:30 pm - the cause has not been confirmed as of yet. Let's all continue to lift her family up in prayer.

Very sad news.
Found some more back ground stories about her and her medical history.
No matter what happened or the cause, it is still a shame and as always painful for family and friends.

OH no. :(
She had already passed when the story aired, since I saw it on the 11 o clock news.
How sad.

jojapeach 04-10-2008 09:00 PM

This deeply saddens and sickens me. I'll lift up her loved ones in prayer.

NappyBison 04-10-2008 09:19 PM

It's horrible to hear things of this nature happening to anyone. I'll be keeping the family in my prayers.

BTW: Wondering if this is the first case of someone dying from this in the U.S.? I know there have been cases of deaths in Eastern countries.....China, UK, and others.

It's stated in the article.

What I want to know is what kind of tools were being used in her surgery b/c this disease is so rare, that I had once read that there was only 1 other case in U.S.

There have been three other cases in the US, but the victims contracted the disease outside of the county--two in the U.K., one in Saudi Arabia.

My concern is not what kind of tools (it was gastro bypass, so I got a pretty good idea,) but how in the heck did an instrument get contaminated???

eduakator 04-11-2008 08:54 AM

I was at Virginia State University yesterday. The Deltas and Ques had a tribute for Ms. Vinson yesterday afternoon. I am from Portsmouth also. So I am awaiting further details.
