Black Greek Letter Organizations in the 21st Century!

Coming in June 2008: Black Greek Letter Organizations in the 21st Century: Our Fight Has Just Begun

I can't wait for this book! The author, Dr. Gregory S. Parks, is a BGLO scholar and 2008 JD candidate at Cornell Law School. He contributed to the first scholarly work on the history of BGLO's: African American Fraternities and Sororities: The Legacy and the Vision by Tamara L. Brown.

The first book documented the history of BGLO's as a movement, in a scholarly way that no book had before. It answered or provided insight into many of the how and why questions regarding BGLO traditions (so if you don't have it, please get it!).

Parks will continue in this next book to talk about where BGLO's are headed, obstacles in our path, and what we are capable of in the 21st century. Pre-order your copy today: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Greek-le..._sim_b_title_5.

Gregory S. Parks is a 32nd degree Mason and Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

I think it may be a reference to the black greeks who have written books about black greek life:
APhiA brothers
  • Lawrence Ross
  • Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough
  • Dr. Gregory S. Parks
Just an educated guess

He is also a friend of mine (not bragging) and an initiate of my chapter.

He is also straight and single. PM me for the introduction, ladies! (He's on the left, I'm on the right)

Sure....sociology, anthropology, history.... well, I suppose these are liberal arts, too. But you know what I mean. :)

Yes, a BGLO scholar would be someone that has done extensive research (more than most of us care to do) about the history of BGLO's, NPHC, the American Greek Letter Organization system, Masons, etc.

I'd be interested in seeing what Dr. Parks has to say esp. in light of declining African American college admissions and graduation rates. How can our collegiate chapters survive without Black students?

LOL, I love that you added that in...and secretly I'm sending a PM...;)

I've heard of this book...and I, too, cannot wait for it to come out. . . I am writing my master's thesis on African American Sororities' contributions to the Civil Rights Era. There is a definite need for more scholarly inquiry and discussion concerning the worth of our ogranziations, historically and currently. If anybody has any good insights, pls PM me!

I own it and it is definitely a must have!:)

I agree!!! lol

The book is now available for purchase. I received mine last week and it's good. Also, there is a chapter focussing on Alumnae sorority life, which most people don't want to research and report on even though in some orgs, Alumnae members make up the majority. It's a very interesting chapter.

i love Dr. Parks, and didn't know he was young! Hmmmm....

Senusret I 05-27-2008 12:31 PM

Yeah, he's somewhere between 30 and 35.... I really can never remember his age. As I push 30, I forget everyone else's so I can choose to forget how old I'm getting lol

Tell him I said "yawn" and "snore."

Kidding. :p It was cool. Nothing groundbreaking but I'm sure it's for a certain audience.
