Amen!

You might want to start at the international umbrella organizations for different types of Greeks:

npcwomen.org
nicindy.org
nalfo.org

NPHCers, I couldn't find a NPHC site when I googled.

nphchq.org

and i love these "im doing research on being greek" posts. i can only imagine what professor, or what class, would require such paper. unless it was a student-led topic, in which id say, pick something else.

macallan25 03-23-2008 11:43 PM

I rarely ever tell professors that I am in a fraternity haha. Usually they hate us.

English class??? Is this a joke?

Well, your school library is your friend. Is this supposed to be a persuasive paper?

I'm not trying to be mean, but I just couldn't help myself:rolleyes:.

zooloochick15 03-24-2008 03:36 PM

Besides being or becoming greek, the other thing that everyone here has in common is that we're all in college or have graduated and gotten a job. No one wants to do the leg work for your paper. I say start with the links that violetpretty and tld221 gave you and take it from there yourself. Good luck!

MysticCat 03-24-2008 03:47 PM

Be sure and mention that every president since 1825 except two have been Greek. :D

(Must . . . behave . . . must . . . behave!)

What is the premise of your paper? What is your stance? Something really makes me want to read this.

SWTXBelle 03-30-2008 04:34 PM

Speaking as an English professor, I think you should also pay close attention to the veracity of your sources. Quoting a random poster on the internet is not going to carry much weight - but the organizations violetpretty gave you will have statistics and the authority of a recognized organization.
Be sure and check the MLA (if that's the style your professor uses) for the correct way to cite the websites.

I love how the first words in the sentence are not capitalized, but "frat" and "sor" (??) are.

I think eveyone should thank his English professor.

OOPs welcome to you from some of the finer folks on GC!

PM me if you want and I will try to help you where I can.

Some people want to try to help, not being well, you fill in the word usage!:(

nittanyalum 04-04-2008 05:59 PM

Yes, definitely PM Tom. He can lead you to the land of ponies and rainbows where everyone is happy and English papers are researched, cross-referenced and bibliographied for you. Safe travels!

SWTXBelle 04-04-2008 06:09 PM

I'm just upset at myself for giving good advice . . . :(

Day13 04-05-2008 05:12 AM

Doing a persuasive paper or persuasive speech on "Why to go Greek" was on all my teacher's lists of things not to write about.

If your teacher is Greek, they know the facts and statistics already. If they aren't Greek, they probably don't like Greeks.

English papers are graded subjectively and if your teacher does not like you or fraternities you will get a C.

Change your topic, but that is just advice.

Also, install Firefox so it can spell check for as you type online.

SWTXBelle 04-05-2008 09:12 AM

Although there is a subjective element to grading papers, a good professor is going to grade a persuasive paper on whether or not you support your assertion, not whether or not he/she agrees with your argument. That said, I'm with your professor as far as subjects NOT to write on- abortion, gun control and legalizing drugs were on my list. There is nothing new to be said about those topics.

Not necessarily. Last time I checked, being (active) in a GLO doesn't require knowledge of certain facts and statistics about Greekdom, in general.

Why do people keep assuming that nonGreeks "probably" dislike Greeks? Maybe this is some alternate universe that I thankfully wasn't exposed to.
