Nu Gamma Gamma is one MOVING chapter. First it was located in Panama, then Puerto Rico. Hopefully it will remain in Canada.
I think a chapter in Canada is great! I don't think they are the first undergrads in the 13th district, I believe University of Hawaii started an undergrad chapter. |

The issue surrounding shifting chapters geographically, for those outside the fold, is that most of the chapters in the 13th District are military chapters and thus the membership may radically fluctuate with tours of duty, base closings, shifts in personnel due to geopolitical military strategy and a myriad of other factors. So, these chapters have tended to be fluid. A graduate chapter which was located in Germany is now headquartered in the Middle East. |
Also, this marks the return of Omega to Canada. Initially the Sigma chapter (now at Michigan State) was located in Westmount (Montreal), Canada in the 1920s. This chapter was largely associated with McGill University, the "Harvard" of Canadian higher education. This chapter's most illustrious member was Bro. Charles Drew, M.D., DSc., who was a medical student at McGill at the time. He went on to do pioneering work in the use of Blood Plasma during WWII and trained many black surgeons at Howard. Charles Drew, along with chapter brother W. Mercer Cook, Ph.D. (later a Prof. of French at Howard and Ambassador to Senegal), while they were students at Amherst College in Mass. wrote 'Omega Dear', our national hymn, and one of the most beautiful and moving Greek songs in existence.

Lastly, since names and chapter numbers are unique it helps up to keep better track in our database of our chapters that are retired v. active. |

Chapters with bad reputations get "retired" as in "we don't wanna see them mofo's wearing letters no mo'". |
Congrats! Great news!

Wolfman...I appreciate the history lesson...my chapter (Sigma Omega) also has a connection to our Canadian chapters as we were initially chartered as Sigma Chapter in 1921 but then renamed Sigma Omega in 1923 when then Grand Basileus J.A. Atkins made the decision that only undergraduate chapters would hold single letter designations. Sigma Chapter wasn't assigned to Westmount, QUEbec until 1925. Yes, this Neo reads his history book  |
I crossed at this chapter. 5 - Nu Gamma Gamma - 93 . Back when it was a military chapter in Panama.
