Embarressing Favorite Old TV Shows!!!
Okay, after reading the post about old tapes you owned, I thought of this. Some things I used to watch when I was little:
Sesame Street Mr.Roger's Neigborhood My Little Pony (had toys too) CareBears (had toys) Popples (had toys) Rainbow Bright (I had ALL the dolls!) Eureka's Castle David, the Nome Little House on the Prarie & Three's Company Reruns Andy Griffith Show Reruns Soul Train (LOL my mom told me I watched this when I was a toddler!) Punky Brewster Full House The Facts of Life What was that show with the Seaver family called??? Step By Step Family Matters Clarissa Explains It All Are You Afraid of the Dark? All That (when it first came out---remember when "Round House" was on it??? circa. 1994/95???) ------------------ ***Tinkerbell*** ~~~Don't worry, be happy!~~~ |
Hey, the show with the Seaver family was Growing Pains. I've got a good list myself in addition to yours:
3-2-1 Contact (with the Bloodhound Gang theme) Square One TV Today's Special You Can't Do That On Television Alice Kate & Allie ALF Family Ties Noozles Electric Company My Secret Identity Small Wonder A-Team Kid's Incorporated Mickey Mouse Club and many more! |
ok, here goes:
- Kids Incorporated - Mickey Mouse Club (even when it became the MMC) - Punky Bruster - Pippi Longstocking - Clarissa Explains It All - Rainbow Brite - Hanna Barbara Cartoons - The Wuzzles - The Gummibears - You Can't Do That On Television - Rags to Riches (which I'm sure no one but me remembers...I wanted to live in Nick Foley's house too!) |
I remember Rags to Riches ... it had Joseph Bologna and that one girl who was in the Little Shop of Horrors movie, if I recall correctly.
So far I'm not really sure what's so embarrassing about watching kids' shows when you're a kid, but I really liked Small Wonder. When I was a bit younger, I liked to watch Zoom (being from the US, it struck me as so odd the way those wacky Canadians pronounced "envelope".. and this is back when they wore red and black striped shirts, not the way it is now), and also 321 Contact ... if you've got the crime, we've got the time. The Bloodhound Gang theme used to frighten my little brother, because he caught one episode of it that dealt with ghosts or something. He has a child of his own now, so I hope he's gotten over it. |
I agree with most of the ones already posted, so I'll just add:
-Smurfs -Lambchop's Playalong -Fraggle Rock |

Remember when they got all dressed up doing a cover of "Hey, Mr. Postman." It was Hey, Mr. Foley or something like that. |

I have lots of favorite shows, and I'm not embarasesed about liking ANY of them http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Pinwheel (I'm searching for tapes of this? anyone got any?) Today's Special Ren and Stimpy (Have most of the first few seasons on tape until it got *stolen* from John K) Roundhouse (an AWESOME show, was NEVER EVER EVER part of that crap they call All That. It was an entirely separate show, ran from 92-95 and was part of the original SNICK block. I've got most of it on tape. Great singers/actors/dancers.) Clarissa Explains it All (also have most of 'em on tape. I used to tape the SNICK block every week http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif) All the "toy cartoons" - Smurfs, Transformers, Get-Along-Gang, Alf... The Third Eye used to scare the CRAP outa me when I was a kid http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif |
All of those mentioned. I was all about Fraggle Rock when I was younger, then became obsessed with Clarissa Explains it All. I wanted a ladder to my room.
-Hey Dude -Zoobileezoo Missy |
Alf, and Perfect Strangers. Anyone remember Balki?
|
Sorry, why did I say RoundHouse was on All That? I meant SNICK, I got confused because All That was on SNICK later also.
I also used to watch: Blossom Fresh Prince Salute Your Shorts Welcome, Freshman Don't Just Sit There Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Mr. Wizard Double Dare Saved by the Bell Family Matters Gidget (that robot girl, right? she stuck her index finger in beverages to drink them) Paddington Bear how can I forget GUMBY? ------------------ ***Tinkerbell*** ~~~Don't worry, be happy!~~~ |
Oh yeah! Balki Vartocomas (or something like that). I LOVED that show!!! I thought the funniest one had to be when it showed Balki & his cousin (what was his name?) as babies in cribs LMAO!

I saw Bronson Pinchot on ET's "Whatever happened to?" and I had a hard time accepting the fact that he didn't really speak with an accent. |
-Mork & Mindy (Nanu Nanu)
-Dukes of Hazzard -Eight is Enough -Different Strokes -Threes Company -Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew series on t.v. but I was in elementary school I think when that was on t.v. -mon chi chis on Saturday Morning -Dungeons and Dragons [This message has been edited by Miami1839 (edited August 04, 2001).] |
Same here! (about Balki!) But I've seen him in some other things, some movies, one where he had an accent, and another where he didn't. One movie he was in was really funny, the other was scary (and he was the bad guy!). In the funny movie, he played a psychic who wore white all the time, and he would go into these crazy spasms and a "ghost" would talk through him. It was sooooo funny!
------------------ ***Tinkerbell*** ~~~Don't worry, be happy!~~~ |
I think that movie where he was the bad guy was called "The Langoliers". It was based on a Stephen King novel I think. It was a way too complicated movie...that's why it went straight to TV.
------------------ A single seed...becomes a Rose of incredible beauty. A single grain of sand...becomes a Pearl of great worth. A single great idea...becomes a Century of success. Go Alpha Gam! |
Oh yeah, that movie was creepy! I finally understood it, though. I watched that with my mom earlier this summer. He was pretty mean in that LOL!
------------------ ***Tinkerbell*** ~~~Don't worry, be happy!~~~ |
I was a Nick at Nite fan from the get go...I remember watching the Donna Reid Show and wanting to have perfectly long, beautiful hair like her daughter. I also watched Mr. Ed, My Three Sons, and Patty Duke all in black and white too...and I'm only 21.
Some other random shows that were probably too old for me where Lavern and Shirley, The Jeffersons, Johnny Carson... I don't think anything I watched was ever embarassing but just kinda odd for my age. Oh well...I still think Nick at Nite ROCKS...oh and I always had to watch the old Adam West Batman EVERY day after school. |
I'm definitely a fan of the old batman series. Willam Anderson, Whitman '51 (Adam West) the guy who starred in Batman is a brother of mine.
Kevin |
Another embarrassing old show... real world, wait I still watch it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif
|
Alright we all watched "Saved by The Bell" and you cannot deny it. Don't lie, there are even a few of us losers who secretly stuck around for the "College Years" and that horrible movie. By the way it's still comes on at 6am CST on TBS. Did anyone else thing Ms Bliss was hot? eewww we should start a board "Saved by the Bell memories" I'm a loser
|
Wooglin,
I'm with you on that. |
How could I forget SAved by the Bell?!!! I admit I even watched the college years. I think Tiffani Thiessen is really pretty and she did a great job on 90210.
What was the show called with STeve urkel. I watched that too. Step by Step- I wonder what ever happened to the little nerdy kid with the glasses on that show? I watched reruns of I dream of Genie, Bewitched, and The Brady Bunch. |
Great topic Tinkerbell! Mine were...
-Full House -Family Matters -Step By Step -Boy Meets World...I had the BIGGEST crush on Rider Strong (Shawn)! -Home Improvement (alright ladies, hands down. Who ever had posters and pinups of JTT in your rooms!!!) -Ghostwriter...anyone else remember this one? -Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? (I was a contestant in 1994!) -Woody Woodpecker and Friends -Are You Afraid of The Dark -Growing Pains -Who's The Boss? -Saved By The Bell -The Wonder Years...which I still LOVE -90210 -California Dreams -Clarissa Explains It All -Goosebumps -Adventures of He-Man and She-Ra -My Little Pony -Mister Roger's Neighborhood -Sesame Street -Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...I LOVED them!! I know there must be more but that's all I can think of for now. It seems like I never get a chance to watch TV anymore!!! |
Oh yeah, what about Ghostbusters? NOT the one with Slimer and Egan and that crew (I think they called that one "The REAL Ghostbusters"), but the one with Jake, Eddie, Tracy the Gorilla, and Jessica the news reporter? Does ANYONE else remember this? I used to have all their action figures.
|
What about the cartoon, HE-Man? Hahahahah I used to watch that all of the time
|
AlphaSigLana,
Pinwheel aired on Nickelodeon from about 1979-1987. It was a mix of live action people and puppets (kinda like a knockoff Sesame Street) and little cartoon shorts. http://www.geocities.com/mystiemei/pinwheel.html is a site that has info about the show. Orchid, I remember the Ghostbusters cartoon too! They would jump on a matress and yell "go go ghostbusters!" before going to solve a crime or whatever. |
Junirogrrl- you are the only person I know who remembers pinwheel. I've asked people if they have ever seen that show and they look at me like i am crazy. Even my mom didn't remember it and I know she was around when I watched it.
Silver Spoons Webster Different Strokes Family Ties Facts of Life Heman Growing Pains Full house 3-2-1 contact I can't remember any more . I used to watch Cosby, but I think that is a good show not an embarressing one to admit watching. I am a 90210 addict. |
Wow--all the memories!! I remember Pinwheel ("Pinwheel, Pinwheel spinning around...") I used to love Today's Special too. What happened to all of the quality kids shows and Saturday morning cartoons??? Now they have crap like City Guys on NBC on Sat. morning http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif I agree with most of the shows on everyone's list and wanting to grow up being the girls on the shows. I thought they were so old!!! Did anyone mention Family Ties? I remember being sad when that went off the air. I also remember coming home after school and watching the Flintstones andreruns of the Brady Bunch on TBS http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

There's no such thing as Saturday morning cartoons in Hawaii. ABC's cartoons usually air around noon...and City Guys airs around 2-ish. I remember Today's Special very well...with Jeff the Mannequin..and that lady (I forget her name...and who could forget Muffy the Mouse? Mr. Wizard's World and You Can't Do that on Television were also some of my other favorites... Bananaman had to be one of my most favorite Nickelodeon cartoons! I miss the old jingle: "Nick-nick-nick-nick-na-nick-nick-nick...NICKELODEON!" Now that MTV's turned 20, I hope that Nickelodeon will also do a similar nostalgia event. |
OMG! Ghostwriter! I totally forgot about that! I thought I was dorky for watching that when I was younger LMAO!
Did anyone watch that show with the girls Izzy and what's-her-face, the two girls who were best friends (one was a tomboy)? A Disney show! Dangit, what's that called??? Oh yeah, and the other Disney show with the boy & girl who were best friends (the curly-haired boy and the girl with wavy hair & her other friend had dark hair)! To whomever wrote about Home Improvement: GAWD! The other day I was cleaning out my old file drawers, and I found an old poster of JTT! He must've been like THIRTEEN in the picture, but I've had that since I was ten or something! I will probably keep it just because it's so funny---it might be worth something someday! LOL! Does anyone still have TITANIC posters??? I do! I was obsessed with that when I was 15! I think it's so dorky now, but I just can't make myself get rid of them! I still have books and the videos and a nightgown too! ------------------ ***Tinkerbell*** ~~~Don't worry, be happy!~~~ |

"Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around. Look at my pinwheel and see what I found..." Can you hear the song...? Great show! I also liked Reading Rainbow! I know its dorky, but I always wanted to be one of those kids who got to tell about the book they read! Let's see... GI Joe the cartoon Voltron ALF The Facts of Life Fraggles Does anyone know the name of the show with the girl who was part alien (I think her dad was alien, but had to go back to his home plante) and she could stop time by putting her two pointer fingers together..? I'm not crazy, it really was a show.... Silverspoons The list could go on forever |
Did anyone watch these?
Alvin & the Chipmunks Gummy Bears Tail Spin Rescue Rangers Darkwing Duck Tiny Toons Animaniacs They were all like on the same channel every weekday afternoon! ------------------ ***Tinkerbell*** ~~~Don't worry, be happy!~~~ |
Captain Planet, he's our hero, gonna bring pollution down to zero, Captain planet, he's our hero.....Earth, Wind, Fire, Water!!!
LMAO! ------------------ ***Tinkerbell*** ~~~Don't worry, be happy!~~~ |
Anyone remember the show "Bananas in Pajamas"? That didn't come out until I was a pre-teen so I didn't watch it much, but I remember the theme-song, "Bananas in pajamas are marching down the stairs, bananas in pajamas, are marching down in pairs, bananas in pajamas, they'll catch you unawares." I always thought that last line said "They'll catch you in your underwear!" LOL!
Anyone remember the show about the three Quala bears? The two boys and the girl I think? The girl, Pinky, had a magic mirror compact. ------------------ ***Tinkerbell*** ~~~Don't worry, be happy!~~~ |
Hey guys, for all those shows we used to (and still) love, go to www.yesterdayland.com. It's a great place to settle bets on whether or not a certain character played a certain part, when a sitcom went off of the air, etc..
|
even through high school, every morning before school i watched cartoons, GI Joe and Mighty Max every morning before school, while I ate my cereal http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

This is a great topic. Here are my favorites:
He-Man She-Ra Tailspin Ducktales Gumby Bears Today's Special You Can't Do That On Television Fifteen (Nickelodeon's teen soap opera) Welcome Freshman Designing Women Golden Girls Facts of Life Saved By the Bell (I watched the College Years too) Punky Brewster Clarissa Explains It All Small Wonder (the show with the robot girl) That's all I can think of for now. dc1--I think the show you're talking about is Out of This World, but I'm not sure. I can picture the half-alien girl perfectly (her name was Evie I think) |
No one has said " Mr. Belvedere" yet. The man who played mr. B died today. He was 80- I believe it was from natural causes.
i also watched Wonder years and Ghostwriter- forgot to mention those earlier. Does anyone remember the show with the girl from step by step who was raised by 2 men? I also would watch cheers and Home improvement. |

Unfortunately, the anniversary "celebration" was a load of shit. It was all about the Rugrats (a show that didn't gain popularity until it had been out of production for years - it was just rerun so much that it gained a fan base after 5 or 6 years and was put back into production) and All That (one of the worst abominations and wastes of video ever). Anyway...the nostalgia weekend was held over the last weekend in June '99. It featured very very few shows from Nick's early days. There was no Pinwheel, no Today's Special, nothing from Nick's lean years. There were maybe 3 episodes of YCDTOTV (all featuring Alanis Morisette) and 1 of Double Dare. It was very insulting and disappointing to those of us born before 1990. In '99 Nick also had an exhibit at the Museum of TV and Radio in NYC, celebrating its 20th anniversary. Maybe if all of us 80s kids start a letter writing campaign to Nickelodeon, we can get a PROPER 25th anniversary http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif |
I LOVED Darkwing Duck, Gummy Bears, Goof Troop, Rescue Rangers, and all those other cartoons. Does anybody remember "Plastic Man?" It came on when I was really young and I used to love it. oh..and I think my all time fave would have to be http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif INSPECTOR GADGET!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Let's not forget him! I always thought Penny and her "computer book" were so cool! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif
About Ghostwriter...I remember in 6th grade I got to do a telephone interview with the girl that played Tina for a newspaper article! She was always my favorite character, and I was starstruck for days! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif OTW, I remember the nickelodeon jingle too! I haven't watched it in so long...wonder what they're playing now! |
