Expansions

:confused:Has anyone heard if the nod for expansion at FIU went to Sigma Kappa or Tri Delts?

BetteDavisEyes 03-16-2008 11:31 AM

Well, Alpha Gamma Delta and Alpha Phi also presented so it could be them as well. Formal announcement of who was selected won't be made until April 1st.

BabyPiNK_FL 03-19-2008 06:06 PM

I was unable to attend the presentation you and AGD made, but my sisters were enamored with it to the point I wished I had been able to make it!

BetteDavisEyes 03-19-2008 09:57 PM

I'm just happy that Sigma Kappa is still expanding. I would love to have another Florida chapter to join the 1 we currently have.

Also, I'd love for us to get selected at NYU since we will be presenting there as well.

Who else is presenting at NYU?

That's some tough competition. I think it helps that we have strong chapters at peer institutions in the region, like BU, MIT, and UPenn. UPenn is one of our strongest chapters, and they are fairly young! Plus, the closest chapters we have to NYC are Rutgers and Hartford, so any willing alumnae (and in a big city like NYC, I'm sure there are a lot) could focus solely on that chapter.

Then again, the other three can say the same thing. Oh I hope we get it! It would be totally sweet to colonize at NYU!!

Expansions- FIU

The official word came out of national today. We will be colonoizing in the Fall, probably Sept. We are really excited down here. It will be great to have a local chapter! I am the president of the Miami (SE FL) Alumnae Chapter.

BetteDavisEyes 04-18-2008 11:02 PM

Now we have to wait & see if we got NYU as well. I hope so. We currently have 2 SK chapters in New York. It would be great to add one at NYU as well.

Fredonia and Geneseo are in western New York (essentially another state), so it'd be nice to have a chapter in New York City.

BetteDavisEyes 04-23-2008 09:10 PM

I'm hopeful and eager to hear who was selected by NYU. They made (or have made since I'm on the West Coast) their selection tonight but won't release the name of the GLO until the GLO itself discloses it. How exciting.

Not that this may make any difference but I was curious about this information.

Sigma Kappa - 2 collegiate & 3 alumnae chapters in New York.

Gamma Phi Beta - 5 collegiate & 3 (maybe 4?) alumnae chapters in New York.

Kappa Kappa Gamma - 5 collegiate but I don't know how many alumnae chapters there currently are in NY.

Pi Beta Phi - 3 collegiate & 6 alumnae chapters in New York.

BetteDavisEyes 10-16-2008 12:34 AM

Sigma Kappa is presenting at the University of California, Irvine this month. :)
I will be attending both the alumnae banquet and the presentation to provide all my support. YAY!
October 29th and 30th are the dates. Woohoo!

Also presenting are Kappa Delta and Phi Mu.

lavendarlace 10-18-2008 01:19 AM

I didn't see it updated...so I thought I would add the new NYU GLO is Pi Beta Phi. I was hoping for Sigma Kappa...I'm sure our time will come! I hope we have better luck at the other campuses where we present!

I just wanted everyone to know that FIU's new chapter of Sigma Kappa is going great =] My name is Michelle and I am one of the founding sisters down here!

I would like to congratulate the Sisters of Sigma Kappa on your receiving the votes to expand at UCI. May you have a fantastic and successful recruitment and expansion.

Go Sigma Kappa and UCI!

UofISigKap 11-19-2008 10:18 PM

Seriously, how excited are you!?

I'm not so subtle huh? ;):p

UofISigKap 11-20-2008 06:02 PM

Nah, the three foot purple letters didn't give anything away. ;)
I wish I was closer to a new colony so I could be involved. I keep hoping for a recolonization at the college about ten minutes away from my house. No such luck.

BetteDavisEyes 11-20-2008 10:37 PM

To add to our excitement, it looks like we were selected to colonize at Clemson as well. Our first South Carolina chapter! YAY!

Wow yay! FIU, UCI, and Clemson should keep us plenty busy. FWIW, we had a chapter at the University of South Carolina in the 30s I believe--Beta Beta.

SigKapSweetie 11-23-2008 09:57 PM

I am so jazzed about Clemson! How awesome! We're on fire, ladies! <3

BetteDavisEyes 11-26-2008 07:49 PM

It's on the National Website now so that's cool. I was playing around and it said that information regarding the colonizations will be posted sometime in the next month. :)

Quick Question

Are you set for Clemson and UCI this spring 2009? ---or next school year 2009-2010? Question only because through NPC we had heard this spring 2009.

BetteDavisEyes 01-08-2009 01:24 AM

UCI will be this spring (starting next month, I believe). As for Clemson, I'm not sure of the details on that colonization yet.

sigmaceli 01-20-2009 07:41 PM

Hope you all don't mind me jumping in to say hello! I hear your FIU colony is doing well - I was the Extension Committee co-chairperson, and it makes me happy to know that my Greek community made a fabulous choice for our future! Just wanted to show some Tri Sigma love for Sigma Kappa!

lavendarlace 02-16-2009 03:18 PM

What are the updates on Irvine and Clemson? I believe UCI had 62 women go through formal pledge. I read in another thread it was 128? for Clemson. That is incredible! :D

Does anyone know chapter total at UCI and Clemson?

UCI- Quota last year was around 40, but at that time there were only 8 NPC groups. This coming fall there will be 10.

By adding Sigma Kappa, Clemson will have 11 groups. They seem to have plenty of women go through recruitment though!

Looks like Miami of Ohio might be expanding again..... that would bring them back up to 18 chapters again after losing tridelt earlier this year. anyone know how the voting turned out?

http://media.www.miamistudent.net/me...-3728773.shtml

interesting to see if they voted yes who they will choose....it seems practically ever organization has been there at one time or another...such a strong greek community!

Did Sigma Kappa present there? I wasn't aware we were presenting anywhere at this time.

Just saw a hometown girl today, and she told me she is a member at Clemson. She is in charge of the Foundation and will be living in the sorority dorm this fall. She is a great girl and loves Sigma Kappa!
