Founder's Day

I would love to hear ideas for our various Founder's Day's events. Do you use the chapter house or another location? Menu ideas? What kind of turnout do you have, and do you have a wide range of ages attending?
Have you had National officers attend? Any fun stories or disasters? (smiling)
Thanks everyone!

To the best of my memory, my collegiate chapter did not celebrate Founders' Day during my years there.

Our alumnae associate is not likely having its own celebration this year. Some of us will celebrate with one collegiate chapter & help confer Jewel to the seniors.

I am going to brunch at another alumnae association's celebration. It is at a Cuban restaurant and I just loooove Cuban food!!

We always had a banquet every year-and I guess we gave out awards-but it was very long ago-and I just don't remember!:D

honeychile 04-17-2008 11:06 AM

Since our school year was over at the beginning of April, we celebrated Founders Day in February - our chapter's Founders Day. Now as Alumnae, we celebrate on the normal day. I've been thinking about having a few local alumnae over for tea - IF I get my ceiling fixed first!

polarpi 04-17-2008 03:33 PM

We hold a joint alumnae/collegiate Founders' Day luncheon, usually at a local hotel/restaurant. We have been holding Jewel Degree the same day after the luncheon, and I think this year is going to be our best one yet!

We also install the next year's alumnae officers at Founders' Day, and have the chapter share what's been going on over the past year for them.

Our founders' day luncheon is a week from Saturday... I had to miss last year's, but I will let y'all know what we ended up doing!

Gamma Upsilon had their Founder's Day with a local Alum Assoc. last weekend. It was nice. I finally got Jewel Degree (3.5 yrs after graduation... lol) along with about 3 other ADPis that were in the chapter a few yrs back with me, and the graduating seniors :)

Well as an alum I have been celebrating founder's day with the Delta Delta chapter and the Northwest Arkansas Alum Association... Every other year they groups celebrate together at the Delta Delta chapter house... Usually there is cake and punch and things like that... During the other years, we celebrate State Day, and try to get the other Arkansas alum associations up here to the chapter house. At both is when we hold Jewel Degree. We are actually holding this years Founder's Day on Saturday... If I could, I would be out in Fort Worth, so I could be with my diamond sister EXiADPi and see my grand diamond go through Jewel Degree...

I'm soo tired!! Lotta driving this weekend!

Drove to a chapter today for Founders' Day Brunch. It was a buffet with good food, but really strange food selections. (I dunno, maybe they ran out of stuff. I was really late - googled directions, but signs were down due to major contruction - so I was on the road for 2.5 hrs instead of the 75 mins it should take!) Anyway, they had a really nice senior send-off, which made it such a great sisterhood activity! :D

EXiADPi 04-28-2008 10:11 PM

Well em couldn't make it so here is Katy and I. It is also too bad nauadpi didn't make the 6-8 hour drive down to be with the rest of the family. Oh well I guess I will just have to make a trip to Fayetteville to go see her. This was a very special one for us since we couldn't look at each other the whole time without laughing or crying. Yes we really are that dorky and I'm the only one who has done any ritual with her from picking up this shy little freshman in August of 2004 in Flagstaff, AZ to Jewel Degree in Fort Worth, TX. Oh it has been a blast getting her ready for every ritual and then explaining to her what just happened and the meaning of everything. Now it is over since I'm all out of <>s. Now I just need to work on the kids.

So cute... I miss you diamond sister

em_adpi 04-28-2008 11:53 PM

I ended up having to go home... it wasn't an easy decision, I can assure you. I'm so sorry I missed it, but I love that you have a pic in front of our lovely house/dorm!

emilyadpiek 05-04-2008 02:49 PM

Our founder's day ceremony will be on May 17th. I'm excited.. I don't think we've had one in a long time.. can't wait! :)

Our Founder's Day celebration is over. It was a lovely luncheon at the San Antonio Country Club. The weather was beautiful and the view that the CC has is amazing! It all turned out well and I didn't have to flip into witch mode with the "wonderful" caterer. :) We installed our new board and I'm the pres of the AA for the next two years. Wish me luck.

I would've loved to have been there!!! How do I get more information on the SA AA happenings?

lonestaradpi 05-18-2008 09:29 PM

Sorry, didn't know you were back in town. I sent you a PM. :D

Best of luck! I was just installed as the president for our alumnae association here, as well - I'm a little nervous!

Me three! We should have a GC AA president picture time at convention next summer if we can all go. It helps that I know BOTH of you in person too! (Everyone together now... "It's a small world after all.")
Anyway, our association is brand new and I so want it to succeed. This is the third re-iteration of an attempted AA in my town. Our first meet 'n' greet sisterhood dinner is Tuesday evening!

honeychile 05-19-2008 11:20 AM

Wow!! Congratulations to ALL of our Alumnae Association Presidents! Hope you have a wonderful time and a cooperative group!

lonestaradpi 05-19-2008 05:39 PM

Wow! Okay, I'm pretty sure that I can break away from kamp next summer for convention so we will have to get a picture! Congrats ladies! I'm a little nervous, but know that I have a great group behind me! Adpi*violet, good luck with the dinner. I'm off to get ready for our Panhellenic Forum. I guess this is my first official event as pres. I hope I don't screw it up! ;)

honeychile 05-19-2008 11:59 PM

further hijacking...

polarpi, I know of one sister you may want to contact. ;)

adpi*violet, I hope your dinner is well attended, and true excitement is generated!

lonestaradpi, I'm sure you're up to the task at hand - especially since you have a motivated group to start with!

FWIW, my own AA has gone up and down and up again over the years - the current "administration" sat down with a list of what it takes to get Diamond Four Point, and simply go down the list. They contact everyone via evites, and after a little tweaking, we ended up meeting at Panera Bread once a month, with something "fun" each month, too. That might work best for us because of our geography, though. I just know that I'm frustrated that I can't go to every meeting, due to helping out my mother!

Trust me - I'm trying! (It doesn't hurt if you want to drop a word, too :))

adpi*violet & lonestaradpi - I'm hoping to be at Convention next year - need to start saving those pennies, but if there's a will, there's a way! We'll *tentatively* plan it right now! :D
