Miss USA 2008

It's happening Friday, April 11. Miss Illinois also happens to be the captain of the Luvabulls. :) Also, Miss South Carolina is Jamie, one of the cheerleaders on Amazing Race 10. Miss Virginia is Tori from Road Rules: Viewers Revenge.

Greeks in the pageant (that mention their affiliation on their contestant page):
Miss New Jersey is an Alpha Delta Pi from Wagner University
Miss Rhode Island is a Phi Sigma Sigma from Barry University
Miss West Virginia is a Delta Zeta from Marshall University
Miss Missouri - unspecified sorority at University of Missouri
Miss Kansas - unspecified sorority at SMU

KDAngel 03-14-2008 11:26 AM

Miss Delaware (Vincenza Carrieri-Russo) is a Gamma Sigma Sigma.
Miss Arkansas (Rachel Howells) is a Zeta Tau Alpha from University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.
Miss Kansas (Michelle Gillespie) -- heard she's a Pi Phi from SMU. Not sure though.
Miss Oklahoma (Lindsey Jo Harrington) -- think she's Greek. Can't confirm.
Miss Massachusetts (Jacqueline Bruno) from Boston University is in a sorority, I just don't know which one.

Miss Missouri (Candice Crawford) is a Pi Beta Phi at University of Missouri AND is Chase Crawford's (from Gossip Girl) sister. :D

And for the Miss Teen USA pagaent:
Miss South Carolina (Brittany Pjetraj) is an Alpha Delta Pi at the University of South Carolina.

ISUKappa 03-14-2008 11:37 AM

My coworker and her daughter are going to the pageant as the daughter is Miss Teen Iowa. She is currently a senior in high school but plans on going through recruitment at her university in the fall and is a legacy to an NPC organization.

I don't know if it's ever happened before, but the reigning Miss Hawaii USA (Jonelle Layfield) is the sister of the reigning Miss Hawaii (Ashley Layfield).

Yeah....they're both forgettable.

Sister Havana 03-14-2008 03:37 PM

Miss Delaware USA is also a Jaycee. That's pretty cool. :D

cuteASAbug 03-14-2008 04:16 PM

Interesting that Miss New Jersey for the Miss America pageant and Miss USA pageant both go to Wagner.

NutBrnHair 03-14-2008 04:20 PM

I think the Chi Omegas are holding out for the Miss America pageant.

jitterbug13 03-14-2008 04:52 PM

What does the current Miss South Carolina, Miss South Carolina USA and Miss Teen South Carolina have in common?

Let's hope Miss South Carolina USA knows her geography and doesn't blow the interview.

Sister Havana 03-15-2008 12:26 AM

One more - Miss Arizona USA is an Alpha Phi.

Not all of them - Miss Tennessee (Hailey Brown) is a Chi Omega from University of Tennessee-Martin.

The late Patsy Ramsey (mother of JonBenet) and her sister Pamela Ellen Paugh, were both Miss West Virginias (1977 and 1980, respectively). I seem to remember seeing a photo of Patsy crowning Pam, or at least being with her at that moment, but I could be wrong about that.

ETA: They were both in the same WVU sorority. I think I know which one, but maybe a Mountaineer is more sure?

Tippiechick 03-15-2008 01:02 AM

Kept thinking Miss Georgia looked SO familiar. Turns out, I was right. She was Miss Ga - MAO last year and placed second to Lauren Nelson from OK...

Mary Zilba was Miss Ohio in 1986 and her sister, Julianna Zilba was Miss Ohio in 1981
Both won Non-Finalist Talent awards at Miss America.

Was it Alpha Xi Delta? I recall seeing threads about Patsy Ramsey in the Alpha Xi forums here.

I'm sure there are more sisters out there who've held the same title (I can think of one more set who have held the Miss Hawaii USA title over the years), but I just thought it was kinda cool how Ashley and Jonelle Layfield are both Miss Hawaii title holders in the same year.

I was thinking it was either AXD or Alpha Phi, so I think you're right.

I'm so rooting on NC (sister) and my home town girl AZ! Miss AZ USA just gave an interview and she was like "I'm coming home as Miss USA". :D

That is all.

ISUKappa 04-14-2008 05:27 PM

Heh, this thread sure shrank. ;)

My coworker was talking about it this weekend (she went with her daughter) and she said everyone basically knew Miss Texas was going to win. She said she'd rather preferred New Jersey or Pennsylvania won because they were more down-to-earth and "real" (whatever that means when you're talking about pageants anyway...) but that it was a very cool experience. Her daughter was busy all day Thursday and some of Friday doing events with the other Miss Teen USA contestants and she said it was a good taste of what the Miss Teen USA pageant might be like for her daughter (as far as pacing and events and publicity goes).

I wanted to see New Jersey win...i'm actually kinda disappointed that Texas won (and i'm not sure exactly why, i guess i liked NJ better)

DreamfulSpirit 04-14-2008 11:15 PM

Yeah, I was kinda hoping for Mississippi or New Jersey to win.
