Chapter (not national) song

What song/s are a part of your local chapter history, the ones you hear and grin form ear to ear? Or the ones you always sing with your bros/sis'?

My chapters' are as folows:

Piano Man - Billy Joel - Historical
Cowboy Song - Thin Lizzy - Historical
Back in Black - ACDC - Historical
Friends in Low Places - Garth Brooks - Fun Group Song
You Never Even Call me by my Name - David Allen Coe - Fun Group Song
El Mariachi - Los Lobos w/Antonio Banderas from Desperado (one from the beginning of the movie) - Fun Group Song, entirely in Spanish and must be memorized by everone

Gotta love it. I grin just thinking about them. Ima gonna have to go find my chapter CD now and go for a listen.

hmmm . . . we didn't have a song to go with our history, but we ALWAYS sang to "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" by Meatloaf and we played it at every party and requested it at bars and stuff, we also did "Come on Eileen" because one of our members was named Eileen.

Sisterplum 05-08-2001 03:52 PM

Hee hee...good topic! I'd have to say the songs that remind me of our sorority are:
"Girls just wanna have fun"...our song!
"I will Survive"....always played when a sister breaks up with her man and we sing it at the top of our lungs.

I'm not sure exactly why, if it used to be a skit song, or what the signifigance exactly, but,.....
we belong by pat benetar,

Ours was "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" - I swear, I could sing the thing in my sleep.

Some of the other fraternities' & sororities' local songs were Joy to the World, Come Sail Away and that Wild Women Do song from Pretty Woman (yeucccccccchhhhhh!).

The best however was a night out when 3 of my sisters & I were the only females left at the bar and the "football frat" sang "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" to us - just like in Top Gun!! That still makes me smile http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif every time I think about it.

Songs for my chapter are:
- Brown Eyed Girl
- We Are Family
- Lean On Me (the Club Noveau version)
- Gimme That Nut (our mascot is the squirrel)

Songs that will always remind me of the great times my sisters and I had in college include:
- American Pie
- That's What Friends are For (when we were having sappy moments at the end of mixers)
- Easy Lover (our version was "DZ Lover" of course!)
- Copacabana (no explanation for this one, really!)

It's not a chapter song, but my pledge class will never forget the words to "I Knew You Were Waiting For Me" by George Michael and I think it's Aretha Franklin. All it takes is one weekend bonding experience to make a stupid 80's song a memory.

Hootie 05-08-2001 11:21 PM

We scream in excitement when Brown Eyed Girl comes on at a school dance...we changed the lyrics to Chi-O Girl.
Another one is Vanilla Ice's ICE ICE BABY. Don't ask...that's another one we changed and it is Chi-O Cuties instead of Ice Ice Baby.
Otherwise Sisters Care by local group Mulberry Lane is OUR song.

"Always Be Together" from "Grease"
"Hard Knock Life" from "Annie"
"Only the Good Die Young" by Billy Joel

We wrote our pledge class songs to the first two, our installation song to the last one! They rock!

Lots-a-Heart 05-09-2001 10:13 AM

To add to Sister Plum.....every pledge class is asked to find their "theme song". But since this started AFTER the first two classes...our (mostly forgotten) theme song is "Viva Forever" by yep, the Spice Girls http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

"Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" by Meatloaf - this was played at all the dances- did you all have one guy stand in the middle of the circle to sing to?

At the bars- always American Pie!

pirate00 05-09-2001 04:47 PM

My chapter's favorite songs include:

Lonely Teardrops- Jackie Wilson
Brown Eyed Girl- Van Morrison
Moondance- Van Morrison (also last year's Semiformal theme)
Gimmie 'Dat Nut (Eazy E)
Na Na Na Na (Kiss him goodbye)- Swift?
Anything by Jimmy Buffet
Put it in your Mouth- Forget which Artist

ees125 06-01-2001 08:03 AM

Carma Camelon by Boy George (we would change the words in the chours to be "red, buff, and green" instead of read gold and green) Perfect AGD song!

Also, The Train (it was our pledge class song.

SSS1365 06-01-2001 09:05 AM

"I Will Survive"
"Celebrate"
"Love Can Build A Bridge" (this one makes everyone cry!)

And pirate, unless there's a different "Put it in your mouth" song that I don't know about, it's by Akinyele. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

zete_boy 06-01-2001 10:11 AM

Hey,
We have a few too, well the ones i remember are:
You've lost that loving feeling - We sing everytime we do karaeoke, or when we get in the mood
Balero - the classical music, don't know why excatly?
Welcome to the Jungle- my pledge class will always remember that one http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

And our chapter has a tradition of a song we wrote ourselves and every class initiated writes thier own verse for it, really great for morale when we sing it! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Our chapter song is by alum Jimmy Buffett - it's Volcano, as in:

"I don't know, Kappa Sigma!, I don't know . . . "

. . . and so on - it's great, we get in a big group, dance and stuff, classic. Quite a few other chapters around us use the same song, so big gatherings are always fun - we've done volcano in bars, sorority formals, karaoke shacks . . .etc, good times.

Our pledge class songs (for serenading) were You've Lost that Loving Feeling, I Want it that Way, and Goodnight Sweetheart, a medly thang. That was so much fun . . .

Wooglin4Ever 08-05-2001 11:19 PM

"Cheeseburger in Paradise" Long Story

"Nice and Slow" Usher we used it for serenade

"You've Lost That Loving Feeling"

"Crazy Game of Poker" OAR They are not a big ban, but check it out if you get a chance to download. GREAT SONG

AlphaSigLana 08-05-2001 11:25 PM

WE are Family is always sung at formals. We get in a big circle and the freshman in the house get in the middle and dance and the the sophomores etc. It is so fun and whenever I hear that song it makes me think of my sisters and realize how lucky I am to be in my sorority.

finest_alum 08-06-2001 02:33 PM

"shook me all night long" by AC/DC..
We just substitued ADPi in some places.. like "those ADPI thighs.." We had this silly little dance to it. It was pretty funny after a few *um* cocktails....

AOTLALA 08-06-2001 03:06 PM

My pledge class song is "American Pie" but we changed the words to "Bye, bye, Miss Alpha Omicron Pi". We also like "We are Family" and we used to use YMCA in rush back in the day, but sing "Its fun to stay at the A O PI house". We always get that played when we are anywhere!

KSig1102 08-07-2001 12:41 AM

hey RC....don't forget The Way you Look Tonight. Great song at the end of the night for everyone to sing.
