Race War 2008: The Battle of Geraldine
|
Her arguments don't make sense to me. No really. WTF is she talking about?
|
It's horrible! I don't get how she can't get the complete idiocracy of what she said. She's not being targeted because she's white; she's being targeted because what she said is complete lunacy.

She's mad because Obama hasn't made her faint ...or moist yet... |
She was on Today's Show or something this morning saying she was misquoted.
I always liked her but had to check out her comment to see if she was going crazy. I agree with what she said about Obama's campaign and his race. His platform of change (which, despite how much detail he has gone into in the past, many people only remember the change rhetoric) is highlighted by his race because that is the epitome of change to many men and women--even moreso than a white woman in office will be. As Dick Gregory I believe so eloquently said, Jesse Jackson ran so that Obama could now run and be taking more seriously than Jackson was. However, his race is also why he may not win the election in the end. I also agree that the messenger matters and had she not been white her message would've been received differently. If a nonwhite person said it, that person would be called an idiot but it wouldn't cause such a stir. NEWSFLASH: RACE MATTERS IN AMERICA ON EACH AND EVERY SIDE REGARDLESS OF WHAT PEOPLE SAY. Important Note: What she's experiencing right now is NOT racism. |

So because she's a woman, this is the joke? |

I am going there today. Yes. I am being sexist. (and what's the word for making fun of old people?) Yes. That statement is as ridiculous as the one she made about his being black or white. Yes... I went there! |

DSTCHAOS is pretty spot-on - she's pointing out something pretty obvious (albeit maybe not something most white people like to confront), although it may have behooved her to take the extra step by pointing out that "hope and change" is particularly resonant because Obama is a younger, black male. For instance, Bill Richardson likely couldn't pull off the same message. The more interesting issue, to me anyway, is the interaction between the Hispanic man's characterization of inter-minority interactions and feelings, in his mind, and the Clinton campaign's response - is this feeling broad, or just something pushed in this one particular quote? |

Sig the whole point is...this shyte is ridiculous...on both sides.... "Never fix your mouth to say something that you have to apologize for later." Last week, Hillary was a monster, this week Obama is not white enough to lead, I wonder what next week will be? I forgot, what are the issues in this political race again? |

"Uh huh...fa real doh..." while popping some gum...all she needs now is some bamboo earrings. Geeeeeerrrrrriiiii!!! |

Her statement wasn't ridiculous but your "joke" was. But hey...at least you knew yours was a joke from the get go. ;) |

Obama was never "white enough" to lead as far as many Dems and Repubs are concerned. People just found a different way to articulate it. But as long as you know that Geraldine Ferraro didn't say Obama wasn't white enough. Quote:
If we ever have a middle to lower class person run for president (who knows how they'd fund their campaign) that would be a huge issue, too, because it's different and socioeconomic status is a symbol of something. Just like factors like gender and race (and age, since Obama's younger and has been accused of lacking experience) are. |

Is there really such a term? seriously? Ah well...her statement may not have been 'ridiculous' but it sure does makes the dems all the way around look a whole hell of a lot more ridiculous. I hear that soon we will hear from Gary Hart as he weighs in on Spitzer's downfall and speaks on Obama's campaign...that should be a treat. |

Ageism is a term and if you were actually doing something more profound than trying to "prove a point" you could be an "ageist." |

After hearing her comments again twice this evening, I can see how the context makes it seem like her comments were a racially charged, poor attempt at dismissing Obama's success over Hillary. The intent seemed to be highlighting Obama's race to say "he's only gotten over Hillary because he's black."
She said her comment was taken out of context and that she really meant to state that Obama supporters, particularly blacks who support him, have come out in full force. She says she was commending Obama supporters. I don't know. I guess perception is reality and her intent is a bit questionable. Maybe she should've left it alone, regardless of who the messenger is/her race, even if she used her Vice Presidential run as an analogy. |
Let me preface this post by saying I'm not white.
Whether we [you know, Americans] like it or not, race is a factor in this election. It may not be a huge one, but it's definitely one of the elements. |
^^^ You ain't white?
DAMN I am out of the loop. Or forgetful. |
I agree.
Race and gender will always be factors in this election. I can/can't say something because I am/am not XXX. I'm voting for the person that I believe in. Whether or not, he/she wins is another matter. |
