UNC Student Murdered

Another sad story... they are reporting right now about Eve Carson, a student at Univ of North Carolina, who was found shot in the head a short distance from campus. She has since died.

She was their student body president.

No greek affiliation mentioned thus far.

Police aren't yet speculating on a tie in with Auburn, but this girl was also from Georgia.

lauralaylin 03-06-2008 02:37 PM

OMG that is creepy and very sad. Is this Chapel Hill?

nittanyalum 03-06-2008 02:38 PM

I really don't know if I can take one more of these tragedies... what is this, 3 or 4 just this week so far?

ComradesTrue 03-06-2008 02:38 PM

Yes, Chapel Hill.

Little32 03-06-2008 02:41 PM

What is the world is going on?

jon1856 03-06-2008 02:46 PM

She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Judging from the following links, both news as well as relating to her election, she was a person who could have gone places and done well and perhaps some good. Truly a great loss.

Ditto.

Eve was a beautiful, talented woman who will be greatly missed. We are all in shock and dismay over this.

So sad. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends and the UNC Campus.

baci 03-06-2008 04:44 PM

My heart breaks for what is going on this week.

WarEagle07 03-06-2008 05:20 PM

My hands are shaking as I type because I am so upset over this. Your college years are supposed to be some of the most amazing years of your life. Yet in this day and age these young adults cannot feel safe either in the classroom or walking across campus. Sad, just so sad......

IHeartUGA 03-07-2008 12:39 AM

Georgia

She was from Athens, Georgia. She graduated from Clarke Central High School.

ktbug10474 03-07-2008 12:53 AM

This is scary. It seems like since VT last year, the number of these events keep soaring. Eve and Lauren's family and friends are both in my prayers.

WarEagle, I agree with you.

I just found this out. One of my best friends was friends with her in high school. I just can't believe all of this is happening. As I told him, it makes me want to hug everybody that I love and tell them so.

Scully 03-07-2008 10:39 AM

This is just heartbreaking. My thoughts are with her family and friends. She seemed like an amazing woman.

SWTXBelle 03-07-2008 11:35 AM

My heart just aches for the family and friends of these poor college students.

atomicflowers 03-07-2008 11:58 AM

This is terrible...what the hell is going on? Why are all of these tragedies happening all of a sudden?

ShyViolet 03-07-2008 12:12 PM

This is so sad... :( My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. What a tragedy.

I believe I remember Eve saying her mother was a professor or an administrator at UGA as well.

pirate00 03-07-2008 11:31 PM

Never in a MILLION years would I believe this would happen in Chapel Hill, especially in that part of town, and so close to campus. All friends of mine who have graduated from and those who are still attending UNC have called me and have expressed their sadness. I pray for the family, students, faculty and the university that is so very close to my heart.

AnchorAlum 03-08-2008 10:42 AM

She seemed like a young woman who was destined for special success in her life. Tragic loss to her family, her friends, and the UNC student body.

God Bless her soul, and may angels be with her family.

ComradesTrue 03-08-2008 03:24 PM

They have released photos of the creep who is using her ATM card, and is currently considered a suspect:

http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/2545076/

The story said that police aren't sure if that is her car. She owned a Highlander, and that is exactly what my Highlander looks like on the inside.

Thetagirl218 03-08-2008 04:07 PM

All Campus tragedies are horrible, but this one stuck a cord with me. I was watching Headline News when I heard about it and they showed footage of her in Student Government. I was an officer in my University's student government, so it hit home. By reading about her you can defiantly tell that she had a heart for her fellow students, and that is the best trait a student government officer can have.

Even though I'm not a big UNC fan as I am a Duke fan, I completely respect what Duke did tonight before the game and what the UNC team has on their jerseys.

Duke had a moment of silence and UNC has a black circle with Eve's name in it in Carolina Blue.

and a TON of coaches and fans and all the guys on college gameday have on a carolina blue ribbon

yeah- i have been watching the game too.

At one point they said that "everyone" in the arena was wearing a light blue ribbon. As they paned through the Duke student section, alumni sections, coaches, ESPN booth, etc., it was evident that everyone was indeed wearing one.

Later they panned to Peyton and Eli Manning (of, um, SECdom, but whatever) in the crowd, but no ribbons. That was a little disapointing. I know the ribbon wasn't required, but it would have been a nice thing for them to do.

What a sad, horrible story. It's a tragic loss to the society that was around her, I'd say.

Oh, no worries. He will get everything coming to him once he is released into the general prison population.

But, sadly, his momma will still get to come visit him on Sundays and holidays. Unfortunately, Lauren's mom doesn't have the same option.

I posted this in the thread about Lauren Burke, but the Westboro Baptist Church is planning to picket Eve's funeral, and has hailed the deaths of both girls as a sign that God hates America and American colleges. No words, just none.

Educatingblue 03-09-2008 12:42 PM

It's a tragedy that a young girl with a promising future is killed over a small amount of money. I guess the killer didn't know all ATM's have cameras and the maximum you can withdraw at most banks is $300-700.

ktbug10474 03-09-2008 01:14 PM

i hate the westboro baptist church

i wonder what would happen if they had a kid that went to any american college and they were killed for no reason .... what would they do then?????? would they picket their own child's funeral?

This makes me very sad. I honestly don't know how people like that can call themselves "Christian". God Loves people, he does not hate them. Just the fact that they would picket at the funeral of such a wonderful girl who made an impact on so many others lives, and was killed in a random act of violence. It deeply saddens me.

That's ridiculous.

Does anyone think that the motorcycle group (can't think of the name) would keep the Westboro people from doing something stupid at Eve's funeral? I know they usually ride for veterans, but would they make an exception for this?

DGArtgrl88 03-11-2008 09:38 PM

I didn't know Eve, but my boyfriend was one of her friends at Clarke central. From what he has told me of her, I am so sad that I didn't have the honor of knowing her. I work at a flower shop and I delivered flowers to her family and it was so hard to see them in pain. As for westboro, they couldn't get anywhere near the church and i think only three of the crazies showed up. I was so angry and upset when I heard what they intended to do. It is a scary world we live in nowadays :(
