College Road Trip

I noticed that the lead girl (Raven Symone) in this movie wants to go to Georgetown, and her dad (Martin Lawrence) decides to take her on a road trip to see other schools, so I'm interested to see where else and if they filmed any of it on real campuses. Plus, I think it looks pretty funny...kinda reminds me of my dad during my college search...only wanted the best for me but got. on. my. nerves. :)

How pathetic is it that I am 25 and want to go see that movie? I think it looks cute. My best friend from H.S. said she absolutely hates Raven Symone....I don't know why-I think she is really talented...Anyone else wanna' go see the movie???

This movie should only be 15 minutes long. There's no need to visit other schools.

lol

Come on. Are you trying to tell me that she shouldn't at least make a trip to the Mecca? Howard University. All day. Every day.
Bison! You Know!

I do kinda want to go see the movie though. Raven has done a good job of maintaining a fan base. Who'd have thought she's survive being a child star and turn out to be a successful adult. In my opinion, far too many child stars are ruined by the early fame.

Senusret I 03-07-2008 09:13 AM

She can visit Howard during probate season like I did. ;)

i would like to see the movie too, but think i will wait to read some of the reviews. i have been in love with raven symone since her days on the cosby show. i would take her over miley cyrus any day!

KDAngel 03-07-2008 09:52 AM

I just want to see it b/c it has Georgetown and see I'm up in DC now (like everyone else in this thread), I figured it'd be fun. :p

They filmed part of it down the street from me at The Taft School. They were there for 10 days or so.

I have a few years on you and I'd like to see this film. Raven Symone has done well. Too bad you don't see her and her success plastered all over the news. It just goes to show you that, good/positive news does not go over well.

I plan to see it next weekend along with Horton Hears a Hoo.:o

Oh man, I want to see Horton Hears a Hoo too! I still don't understand why we don't have children's writers like Dr. Seuss anymore. Although it's probably the same reason Raven doesn't get the publicity deserves. Like it was said before, America just doesn't want good news.

i took my little sister and 2 of her friends to go see it and i was DREADING this movie. it actually turned out to be a really cute movie, especially some of the incidents that martin lawerence and raven get into.

and donny (sp??) osmond OMG he's hilarious in this movie as well as the girl who plays his daughter

my absolute favorite scenes though *not to give anything away* are the car trip with osmond, when raven's character moves into her dorm, and the very last scene and what donny osmond does... hahahahahahahaha

my all time favorite movie that just recently came out though was 27 dresses... i loved the bar scene and you can take me to a movie that has james marsden in it ANYDAY!!!!

I haven't seen it yet but thank you for the review - I'm going to see it for sure now. That's funny that DO is so hilarious in this, I never would've expected it from him!

catiebug 03-10-2008 01:34 PM

You've never seen the video for Weird Al's White and Nerdy???

Actually...that may work well in her favor...think about it...all we hear is all the bad news blaring Lindsay, Brittany and Paris....let Raven do hers on teh quiet...and do things we can be proud of...sometimes success is best if not bragged or shouted about.

NappyBison 03-13-2008 07:17 PM

I'm all for Raven Symone and seeing her be a successful actress, but I wonder what would happen if they stopped giving her these teen/almost-adult-but-not-quite-there-yet roles. But hey, that's just me talking.

Other than that, she sets a great example for young girls and I'm glad she isn't all caught up in her weight, although people have been questioning it for years. She's a beautiful young lady and seems to be following along the right path.

What exactly is she doing to set a good example for young girls? (I really don't know that much about her to know this)

I guess I'm just wondering if we're not just assuming she's a great person on the inside because she's famous and isn't a size 0 like the other young hollywood starlets.

NappyBison 03-13-2008 08:46 PM

She's one of the few child-stars that I can recall, who hasn't made a complete fool of herself as a person. She's made a good transition from child-star to a mature actress. I'm pretty sure she's got her flaws but in the public eye she maintains that whole "good girl" status.

We might be assuming she's a great person because of these attributes and who is to say that she doesn't lead a life of reckless sexcapades, alcohol binges, etc??? I'm not saying she is a saint but her actions, up until this present time, don't suggest otherwise.

Velocity_14 03-13-2008 09:45 PM

^^^^^Where you been lil mama????

NappyBison 03-13-2008 11:27 PM

Here and there, track and school work has been keeping me extremely busy lately.

Maybe it's just me, but I think she's embarrassed herself as an actress with the roles she takes on. They're all goofy, physical comedy roles that usually incorporate her singing skills. And I say this as a person with a lot of knowledge of the work she has done (Disney Channel is on 24/7 in my house for my little sisters).

College Road Trip just seemed to be another chance for Raven to make outrageous faces, do physical comedy, and get another job done as an actress. But maybe that's just me. :o

While I do not like her as an actress, I will agree that it is nice not see her name plastered in the news for negative things like Lohan and Spears.

What is wrong with physical comedy? Maybe that is her intent...to be a comedic actress.

BabyPiNK_FL 03-14-2008 04:15 PM

If comedy is what she wants to do then that's great. Comedians are a special type of people. It would be a bit out of place to see someone like a Stephen Colbert or a Jenny McCarthy or a Jim Carrey be in a super serious role like Macbeth or Queen Elizabeth (even if they might be good at it).

On the other hand, maybe Raven does want to be the next (female) Daniel Day Lewis or Charlize Theron and no one will give her the opportunity because of her body type or past roles, typecasting, or whatever reason.
