I was shocked when I saw the honor ring on ebay, and I was the highbidder (cdwestwood) until turquoiseandgray outbid me. I don't care who gets it as long as it's a sister.
|
i saw that too and was shocked, to see it.
i wish that i wasn't a poor grad student so i could bid on the badges when i see them. |
Currently a collector has bid it up to $102.50 and is trying to outbid me on the silver badge with pearls and Mu guard :( Anyone want to take up a collection to save the honor ring??? And btw, the silver badge is currently being won by a Zeta, not sure about the gold badge with pearls.

Just curious

Honor Ring – adopted at the 1915 Convention, it is silver with the coat-of-arms superimposed upon a turquoise stone, flanked on either side by an open Bible and the crown. The national Fraternity upon approval of National Council shall award the Honor Ring. Presentation of the Honor Ring is based upon the provisions previously outlined. Basically it's worn by members who have given a lot of time to ZTA and its awarding is approved by national council. It's a really big deal to get one and it's the highest honor bestowed by ZTA to an individual member. So to see one on Ebay is major to say the least. What's next, the Purple of the Fraternity??!! A president's torch guard? |
There was an old president's badge up there a while ago - pretty old.
|
Seriously though, we should try to rescue that honor ring, it's not often those go up for auction.
|
I think I see a mother's pin up too.
Is there any way to merge the two ebay threads??? Not a huge deal, just would make things easier. |

nutbrown, to earn an honor ring, as southern zeta said, you must put in years of service to zta. to elaborate, one earns points at both a local and national level to earn enough points to qualify for consideration. someone could have donated many years of service to either an alumnae chapter or local collegiate chapter, and not qualify for an honor ring, because she does not have points accumulated at a national level(basically serving as a national officer or chairwoman). it is a huge deal to receive an honor ring, because each qualified applicant is reviewed by the executive officers and the rings are given out at our national convention.
|
Well, it's a beautiful ring. Are they not marked inside with the recipient's initials? That way it could be determined to whom it was originally presented.
|
The honor ring has gotten so much publicity here and lots of early bids. I'm betting it gets to the $300-$400 range.
Any idea what the stone is? Jade perhaps? |
It's turquoise, of course! :)
|
I won the badge! And another Zeta won the plain silver badge and she happens to be from the Mu chapter area so the Mu guard that comes with my badge will be going her way (silver etched, very pretty). I just wish I would have it in time for Badge day tomorrow...
So far it looks like the Honor Ring may go to a Zeta. The person who has the highest bid has purchased a Zeta badge before and no other GLO para so hopefully my assumption is right. It's approaching $200 though... |
thanks for keeping us updated on the honor ring. congratulations on your new badge and how sweet of you to send the chapter guard to someone who can use it!

On a related note, last week someone was selling one of my chapter's pink ribbon pins on eBay and it was over $40. We still sell them for $5 each.

I received the badge I won - silver with pearls and silver Mu guard and it's so beautiful! I can't wait to wear it! And I'm sending the Mu guard to a sister in that area who could use it :) Now if anyone has a silver Theta Chi guard they wanna send my way, be my guest ;) And I have a pearl missing from my gold badge - who can I go to to get it repaired/replaced? Is a local jeweler allowed to work on it or must I send it to HJ or IO...?
|
^ I was wondering that too! I have a plain gold badge and a pink sapphire badge. I got the pink one when part of the antiquing fell out of my old one! There's a big gold gap between the T and the A! I don't even know how it happened. So I'd like to know where I could get badges fixed too :)
|
OK I know I'm off topic as we usually discuss badges here...but I want the giant ZTA Think Pink Ribbon Car Magnet Lookie!
|
I've been out of town on business and didn't have internet access so I'm glad to know the HR went to a sister. My lil sis was bidding on it but got outbid.
I'm sure I've got plenty of local points but I doubt if I'll be able to get the others. I took an old badge to a jeweler to see if he could replace some of the missing seed pearls and he told me that they were too hard to get so he didn't do that sort of thing. He suggested that I speak with the official jeweler to see if they could/would work on it but I haven't done that yet. Maybe at Convention. I lost my pink ribbon magnet at an automated drive through car wash so watch out for that if you get one. |

Me and my imaginary car really think we need a pink ribbon magnet.
Perhaps I could carry it with my MTA bus & subway card if nothing else. HAHA |
New badge and chapter guard on ebay
There is a new listing for a badge and Alpha chapter guard.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ZETA-TAU-ALPHA-G...QQcmdZViewItem I am currently the high bidder, but who knows what will happen. |

I've been trying to figure that guard out, too. Alpha Iota but they couldn't attach the I? Or special meaning for Alpha chapter? As far as age (let me put my badge nerd glasses on), I'm pretty sure the 2 lines in the crown indicate that it is probably from the early 30's. |

I just bought a diamond badge so I'm tapped out right now:
#380016900915 Anyone? |
I'd be all over that Stacy if I wasn't in between jobs :( I want one with turquoise or emeralds so bad!
|
The badge came in the mail yesteray and it is gorgeous!!! ALL diamonds and super sparkly. The seller said it was silver but it is marked 14K so that means it is white gold. Very nice surprise. The price through Herff-Jones is $440 but I got it for about a third of that. :D

ETA: please post a pic of your new badge, it sounds beautiful and very lucky that it's gold and not silver! :D |

I just saw this badge on ebay. I've never seen one with opals. Is that a usual combination? |
Oooh that one's pretty! I've never seen it before, but it is one of the options available in the catalog.
|
Ohhh thats really pretty. I love opals and would bid on it, but I've heard that its bad luck to wear them if it isnt your birthstone.
