Largest Fraternity Chapter

Quick Question: What is the largest fraternity chapter in the nation?

I know Sigma Nu at Ole Miss was over 200 members at one point. I'm not sure if they are over that right now.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was Pike at FSU?

ZZ-kai- 02-23-2008 10:43 PM

Our top 5 are:

1. Oklahoma - 197
2. Florida - 195
3. Auburn - 153
4. Central Florida - 150
5. Missouri - 137
5. Alabama - 137

Do Pledges count? Maybe not until they get initiated then added to Chapter rolls.:)

Just thinking.

We have one over 200 now (Sigma Chi) and one just under...200 hundred wouldn't be a marking point...I think Sigma Chi may even be at 220 though I could be wrong

It's probably Pike at FSU, if I had to guess.

I'd count pledges.
So your largest will be (at most campuses) right after initiating their fall class, and taking their Spring class.

However, most large/established chapters don't even take a Spring. So their largest would be right after taking their Fall class.

If I had to guess, our largest has to be one of these, but I don't have numbers and I'm pretty sure none is over 200 (it would be Miss if any)

University of Mississippi
Auburn University
Purdue University
Oklahoma State University

Don't worry, I don't think you're a tool or anything. The Florida Beta chapter has 158 active, 37 pledges.

Also not to be a tool but...

For the fall semester grade report for Central Florida Beta had 91 including the pledges. I don't see spring giving them 60 something pledges.

I mean, I couldn't tell you our top 5 chapters so you are a lot more educated than I am.

I don't think they were talking about Central Florida - I think they were talking about the University of Florida. Gentlemen?

The Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha has over three hundred members.

It is an alumni chapter in Atlanta. The OP didn't specify undergrad or alum, NPHC or NIC, so there. :)

Roger that, it is Florida as in Gators, not UCF. I do have UCF's numbers and will post them later. Magazine is at home...

I would put my money on the Pikes at FSU. 183 at last count. Excluding pledges.

Smaller than the UofA...actually.

I believe there is at least one (Sigma Chi) over 200.

ZZ-kai- 02-27-2008 07:26 PM

UCF reported to our AO 150 (102 active, 48 pledges)

Sigma Nu and KA at Ole Miss have over 200

Re: largest chapter size

After initiation of 55 men on December 4, the Pikes at Florida State have 210 Brothers, no pledges. Seven pledges are the sons of Chapter alumni, all of whom were there to participate in initiation. Eighteen current underegrads are Pike sons.
All the big fraternities at FSU are pretty large.
I don't know if we're the largest Pike chapter. Ole Miss might be bigger U-Florida used to be as large or larger than us.

pshsx1 12-20-2009 02:48 PM

Just to throw it out there, as of March 2009, our largest chapter had 202 members at Oklahoma. I'm sure, since Fall is over, that number is very different.

Firehouse 12-20-2009 03:56 PM

The fluxuations are interesting. At least in our case (Pi Kappa Alpha) we had multiple chapters with over 200 members in the 1980s. In the mid-1980s we have around 25 chapters with 100+ members. Then, no 200-man chapters in the 1990s - not even close. The average size of the big chapters dropped sharply. However, beginning in 2000 the big-chapter numbers went up again. We probably had only three or four chapters with 100+ in 1999. Now there are 20-30 again, and several at 200+.
My guess is that other nationals have followed the same pattern.

Sig Nu at Ole Miss had a fall class of 80-something. I wonder what their total manpower stands at now.

congratulations
