AOIIalum 02-01-2008 07:22 AM

Did you say "wedding plans"? Is there some happy news in the Carnation Nation?!?!?!?!

carnation 02-01-2008 07:27 AM

Let's just say that on the Nation flag, the steel gray and turquoise blue star will soon have one with Mardi Gras colors beside it!

AOIIalum 02-01-2008 07:40 AM

She said yes! Hurrah! I swear, the CN isn't going to stop until every color is on that flag!

FSUZeta 02-01-2008 08:43 AM

congratulations to my "sister" on her engagement!

angelove 02-01-2008 09:37 AM

Yea! When and where??
Congratulations!

carnation 02-01-2008 05:49 PM

Our Zeta said yes to her Lambda Chi!:):):)

We're all excited and the wedding will probably be in Birmingham in the fall because not only do they live there now but it's centrally located between his relatives in Mississippi and us in Georgia.

The first wedding thread was for daughter #1 and we needed tips on Christmas weddings! Now wedding number 2 is actually for daughter #5 and we need tips on autumn weddings!

ZTAMich 02-01-2008 07:50 PM

I just had a fall wedding. I think it's a great time of year. Lots to do with the menus, decor, etc. Congrats!

SthrnZeta 02-01-2008 08:14 PM

Congrats! How exciting!!!

alum 02-01-2008 08:17 PM

In about a decade or so, there will be all these little Carnation hybrids running around! :)

PageantDiamonds 02-01-2008 08:24 PM

It has been reported that kddani is getting married, maybe she can lend you some of her exquisite taste!

NutBrnHair 02-02-2008 03:02 PM

Am I the only one picturing Greek letters on the cake?

Army Wife'79 02-02-2008 05:22 PM

Carnation, my niece had a fall wedding in Illinois and my sister (in true Martha Stewart fashion) picked leaves off of red "burning bushes" (I'm sure YOU know the correct scientific name of this bush) and ironed them in wax paper and sprinkled them around the reception on tables. They were very pretty.

PhoenixAzul 02-02-2008 06:01 PM

Oh fantastic, congratulations!

I'm in the midst of autumn wedding planning...and I must say, it's kind of a great time to get hitched because you can get lots of the little things you need after the post-wedding season rush for a discount.

And you've got a lot of colors to pull in: browns, reds, yellows/golds, oranges, etc.

She has good tastes!

Congrats!!!!!!!

OK, I've found the most fabulous wedding bouquet book! It's called To Have and To Hold. From both a professional standpoint and a mom of the bride standpoint, I'm impressed...the fall ideas are soooo gorgeous.

And thank you all for your good wishes! It's just as scary getting started on the second wedding. The fact that it'll be out of town and I don't know any florists or caterers in Birmingham is one reason why.

SWTXBelle 02-03-2008 09:05 PM

Hmmm . . . surely we have Birmingham people here on GC!

Lots of online resources can help you with the out of town issues too. My local board on the knot.com was great! Very helpful girls there and on most of the boards. Wedding Channel is good too.

pinkyphimu 02-10-2008 12:23 AM

Oh, I know I am late to this wedding party, but congrats!! My friend got married in the fall in New England and she used pumpkins with flowers as the centerpieces. They were so pretty. Is she getting married this fall?
Now, as someone planning her own wedding from a distance, I also recommend checking out the websites of the major papers in the area. In Boston, one of the newspapers has message boards about everything possible. Their wedding message board has been super helpful. I still refer to it frequently even though I am getting married in PA.

SHEETCAKE 02-10-2008 08:13 PM

I wouldn't serve me, that's very cliche.

carnation 02-10-2008 09:39 PM

Wouldn't dream of it!

ktbug10474 02-10-2008 09:56 PM

congratulations carnation!!

carnation 02-24-2008 11:56 AM

Success! We found a gooorgeous ivory gown yesterday with a dropped waist and a bodice with the palest of pink pearls and a pale pink hem. All these other brides and their moms kept walking by and saying things like, "I haven't seen the rest on you but this is your gown!"

So then we met the florist and instead of fall colors, she'll be going with very pale shell pink and pale green. There's a new rose out, Esperance, that's light pink and green and ivory and that'll probably be the feature flower.

I haven't quit smiling yet.:)

Omigosh, that sounds perfectly lovely! One of the most beautiful wedding gowns I ever saw (at definitely the most expensive weddings!) was an ivory dress with pale sage & shell pink embroidery on the hem, sleeves & neckline. It was so gorgeous, I can't even remember the flowers!

Army Wife'79 02-24-2008 05:16 PM

My curiousity is piqued! I may have to "conveniently be walking my dog" at the church just to get a glimpse at that gorgeous gown!! Post a pic on the bridal gown thread if you have one.

carnation 02-24-2008 06:57 PM

Don't be walking your dog! Come on in, you're invited!

trojangal 02-24-2008 07:37 PM

Birmingham pointers....

Congrats to you! As far as help with the florists, etc, I can definitely give you some pointers to which ones are very reasonable, etc.

Do you all know where the service is going to be? I know of a great church in your denomination, if they are going that route.

Also, don't forget to consider the botanical gardens as well...it's beautiful in the fall!

I am thrilled for you all!!!!!

carnation 02-24-2008 07:43 PM

Please come too! I'm pming you the place and date! :) Hey, you've been seen in public with us before so I know you're brave enough to come!:D

carnation 02-25-2008 06:28 PM

Okay, here's the probable bridesmaids' dress--it would be in this color, celadon, with a "blush" sash.

AOIIBrandi 02-25-2008 06:28 PM

Congrats on the second daughter getting married Carnation :) Sorry I missed it earlier as I haven't been around in a while. I can't wait to read more of the details.

I like that a lot - similar to colors I'm looking at :)

Army Wife'79 02-25-2008 06:31 PM

Love the bridesmaid dress. It's not reall "foo foo" like a lot of them. Very simple and elegant. Yay. Will all the sisters be BM's?

That's a beautiful combination on the dress and an excellent style.

I also looked up the rose type. It's gorgeous too.

RaggedyAnn 02-25-2008 07:48 PM

Congratulations!

If you haven't got your invitations yet, invitationsbydawn.com is definitely worth checking out. I got them on a recommendation and they did NOT dissappoint. My invitations were beautiful and very inexpensive. They are the same ones you order at the fancy boutiques, but cost a lot less.

HBADPi 02-25-2008 08:06 PM

Carnation - congrats to your daughter. I also planning a fall (well late summer/early fall) wedding and I actually chose Dessy as my BMs dress. Dessy can run a bit pricey and I actually found if I ordered it online I could save my girls around $100. I ordered through Netbride.com and the dresses actually were delivered on Friday (2 months early!). I know a lot of brides that have ordered through them with no problems so I thought I might pass the word along.

Good luck!

carnation 02-25-2008 09:59 PM

Oooh, thanks! Netbride will be the next website I go to!:)

Because--yes, she'll be using her 8 sisters as bridesmaids as well as 2 of her Zeta sisters and 3 friends from home. Buying 8 dresses and 13 bouquets is going to be pricey!

Lovely! That color is very pretty. And wearable again. I am so in love with tea length dresses...which is what I chose for my girls, too!

ForeverRoses 02-26-2008 01:04 PM

The bridesmaids dresses are very pretty. Any pictures of the wedding gown?
