What's your talent?

We all have some kind of talent. It may be musical or something like Molly Ringwald in
The Breakfast Club. I can sing, but I get more attention for being able to tie a knot in a cherry stem. What's your talent?

Unregistered- 06-29-2001 01:22 PM

When I was younger, my parents liked to exploit me and enter me in those kiddy singing competitions. I did pretty well back then, but now I just sing in church and for sorority events. Once in a while I'll be asked to sing at a wedding...that's my favorite.

I started taking piano lessons when I was 4 and I stopped my formal training at 15, but I'll still play once in a while.

I also dance hula and tahitian (rarely, because of my knees) from time to time.

But my best talent has to be tying the cherry stem into a knot...and being able to do a "SHAKA" with my toes.

KillarneyRose 06-29-2001 01:24 PM

I can pick up things with my toes! This really weirded out my husband when we first met but I had always just assumed everyone could do it!

I can pick up things w/ my toes too! It started just as pure laziness (like picking up a pencil w/ my toes coz i didn't wanna bend down)but then it also baffled my family that i could pick up basically anything that would fit or "mold" like scrunchies, thin books, etc.

I used to sing a lot in talent shows, but now in college the only time i do it is when i cruise around w/ my friends or when we have a karaoke night at the residence halls. The last "serious" singing I did was at our awards banquet where we gave tributes to the graduating seniors.

I also like to dance. I used to be in ballet as part of my cross training w/ figure skating. I still take ballet classes but nothing rigorous, just to stay fit n keep my muscles from stiffening up I guess. (and it's a one credit hour too lol)

Is sniffing out a good bargain in stores considered a talent? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yes, definitely. Especially since my talent is finding the most expensive thing there and falling in love with it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I am a music junkie. I can play almost any instrument that is placed before me. Mostly I play bass guitar, but I also play guitar, mandolin, piano, some violin, upright bass, harmonica, and a little trumpet. I have taught myself everything except piano. I took piano lessons for about 4 years and then decided that I could do better on my own. I also sing in several bands.

Other than music, I have several other strange talents. I am double jointed and can do several "tricks". I can face both of my feet backwards while still facing forewards. Sort of like 1st position in ballet but with both feet pointing backwards. I can move every one of my toes individually without the others moving (much harder than you think it is). I can also dislocate several different joints in my body like shoulders, fingers, elbow, ..etc. Most of these come from the several injuries that I have put myself through. I figure one day when I am old, I will just completely come apart and fall to the ground like a big pile of goo.

So I got that going for me, which is nice.

WOW I'm so jealous!!!!!! I wish I could do that!

Well, I like to sing...adn ppl tell me I have real talent couseling/giving advice to ppl and working with kids. I don't know if that counts, though.

nucutiepie 06-29-2001 06:25 PM

LXA1048, I can do the foot thing too!!! I used to take ballet, but instead of having a normal turn out (your feet form a straight line pointing out) I can get them at an obtuse angle - they point backwards. I have hyperextended knees (and elbows) which accounts for my feat!

I can also tap dance, and am AMAZING at embarrassing myself.

cash78mere 06-29-2001 06:41 PM

I too have taught myself just about every instrument imaginable---clarinet, piano, flute, bassoon, oboe, saxophone....and the list goes on! I've always been a musical person. It just comes naturally.

It's funny though, because a lot of musical people are also artistic. But I DEFINITELY don't fit that mold!!!

I'm also REALLY good at drawing maps freehand. Even though I can't draw to save my life, I can copy a map of a country if I'm looking at it. That came in handy in high school.

Holy Shi+. I can do the backwards leg thing too. i NEVER met anyone else who could do it. It is so awesome to freak people the hell out. I have been doing it since 10th grade. The really fun thing to do is wearing pants or jeans, do it, stand there, but srtaighten your pants around, so it looks like your feet are on backwards and watch people FREAK!!!

Another trick to do if you can turn both legs around is only do one, but walk with it. You kinda have to tilt the hips a bit, and you look like a special needs kid doing it, but it freaks people out too.

I can also pop bot hips in and out of their sockets. It doesnt hurt. Ima so gonna give myself a hella case of arthritis one day.

My talent also involves singing, but that's not to say I do it well! I am known as the girl who knows the words to EVERY song! I can hear a song once and know like every word. 4 days after I got my bid, we had a '70s mixer, and I sang along (loudly) to every song, so immediately my rep was set!

I have a few weird talents that freak people out..
i can bend my fingers all the way back so they touch the back of my hand..its funny when they get all freaked out..and i let them push my fingers all the way back..LOLOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Hillarious!

ok next..i too can tie a cherry stem with my tounge..this one is fun too.. i always wondered what the male fascination with this was..i always get some kinda comment!

moving along..my toes dance!
i can move each toe individually..so at times i can move them in different directions and they look so funny dancing..

as for normal talents...i can play the flute, im creative..and i am great at finding bargains...i love it when people are like wow i like that..and im like yeah it was 3 dollars http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

juniorgrrl 06-30-2001 12:33 AM

My talent is that I have an AMAZING memory. I can tell you minute details about things that boggle most people's minds. I pretty much remember what I have worn for my entire life http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I'm also the *master* at Bust-a-Move '99 for the N64. My friends refuse to play me at that game for money - 'cause they KNOW they'll lose! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I too am a master of Bust a Move 99! We have it for Sony Playstation and I'm so tempted to get Super Bust a Move for PS2.

I work part time at our campus Gamesroom and when things get slow I'll occasionally play DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION since I've figured out a way to play games for free (one of the perks of working there). I haven't quite made it up to the expert level yet, but I'm slowly getting there.

I am able to stare at any woman, and have her fall in love with me. The bad part of my talent is that I lack aim. Oh the stories I could tell you about scary truck drivers following me home after accidentally giving them a glance.

dc1 07-02-2001 03:21 PM

I sing. I also taught myself the piano and guitar...

I used to do the foot thing in High School Phys Ed. I made one of the Subs for the class pass out. I started screaming that my foot was broken and then I walked toward her with it facing behind be. She dropped to the ground. I felt kind of bad, but oh well. It is very difficult to get in trouble when your father was the principal of your school.

Aw, dc1, that's so great!!!! I have a guitar that someone gave me, and I've been TRYING to teach myself, to no luck http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. (I can't find the guitar book in my house.) Do you have any tips? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Newbie,
Guitar is REALLY easy once you learn the basic chords... I just got an "intro to guitar" book and learned the basic chords, then started to put the chords together. I also started to listen to folk type songs (as they use simple chords) and played along by ear. Once you get one or two songs down (which take some time and patience) then the rest is easy to figure out. I play alot of traditional Celtic songs, cause they seem to be the easiest.

If I can do it, then I know you can learn to play too! Good luck and have fun learning.

Faced with the Divine, I was asked; "What one gift do you seek?"
I answered ever so meekly; "I seek Honor, Truth, Integrity, and Wisdom, yet those are four. How am I to choose?"
The answer came as a pounding whisper; "The four you seek are but one. I grant thee Compassion; for without it the four make none."

Thanks for the tips dc1 http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif!!!! Ya know, right now - basically, I suck lol. It sounds SOOOOOO bad that my sister was like "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh put it AWAY!!!" lol. I REALLY hope I find my guitar book http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. I will definitely keep you up-to-date as to if I'm learning, and if I can play anything! Hopefully soon I can play some Disney songs http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. Do you know how to play Disney songs?

To be honest, I can't say that I've ever tried to play a disney song... I'll give it a whirl and let you know how it works out...
Have fun learning!

Okay, I have been thinking about this for awhile, and the only talents I seem to have are:
Acumulating the largest amount of debt in the shortest time
tripping and falling down over everything (also known as being The Most Uncoordinated Person Known to Man)
Ruining everysong on the radio by singing waaaaaay off-key
Making myself look stupid by saying the most random things possible unententionally

The last one actually is not bad, b/c everyone comes to me to cheer them up!
