Jon and Kate Plus Eight
Has anyone seen this show? I usually watch it on TLC, but I guess its on Discovery Health too. I usually get really annoyed with those shows about big families (the Duggars anyone?), but I cannot stop watching this!
|
I know! This is the only "big family show" I like.
It's very addicting |
I am so glad you posted this because I was just about to!
I love Jon & Kate Plus 8. They got my attention when I saw "Surviving Twins and Sextuplets" special. I had no idea they got their own series until halfway through the first season. A lot of people question Kate's parenting style and talk a lot of isht because they think the Gosselins are exploiting their family, but I don't think it's like that at all. They can live comfortably because of the show now. They were able to move to a different town into a bigger house...Kate got to quit her nursing job...and Jon doesn't have to work from 6-6 anymore because he was able to quit his government job and work for Beth's husband. It's so neat to see the kids grow up. They were 16 months old when we first met them, and now they're three and a half! Who's your favorite? I like Collin and Leah. Alexis is adorable too when she's not screaming her head off. |
I only discovered this show this year. I got my mom hooked on it too. :) We both love Maddy because she's such a drama queen! Kara is cool because she just does her thing and seems to be the most independent. Of the little ones I like Aaden best because he's such a lil sweet heart. :)

My mom watches it too! For those who have never seen the show: http://sixgosselins.com Jon mentioned that he's half Korean/half Caucasian and the kids really have those Asian features. They're just so darn cute. I still don't know how Jon and Kate pulled off their 19 hour road trip to Disney World. |
My biggest problem with that road trip is that they left home around 4pm. Who does that? You start road trips, especially with kids, at the crack of dawn. Load the car the night before and strap the kids in their seats while their still half asleep in the morning.

Now that I am an adult, our family leaves in the afternoon. I drive all night b/c I am an insomniac. Tank and Max sleep. Then, in the morning, Tank drives and Max plays games/watches tv while I sleep. It works out really well for us. |

I LOVE this show. And if I had 8 kids, I'm sure I would be screaming my head off most of the time as well! They seem so real-- the actually argue and then make-up like a normal couple. and the kids aren't perfect. I could see myself being friends with these people, as opposed to most of the other big family shows (Duggers, etc.).
BTW, did anyone see the episode where Aiden gets sick and one of the little girls is rubbing his head to help him feel better? |
We were watching that one last night - and LAUGHING. "He's gonna throw up on your hand."
Disney is now 12 hours away - we start around 4 in the afternoon and drive through the night. When I lived in Houston it was a 20 hour drive - yikes. |

Disney is 15 hours for us (although we won't be going for anothe year or two). As for leaving at 4pm for a trip, our 2 year old hates riding in the car so when we do travel we always leave in the afternoon (and we don't let him nap first). That way, he will nap in the car, then we stop for dinner, let them run around for a while and then get back in the car. Then they fall asleep for the night and we can drive in relative peace! in the morning, we are there and we didn't have to survive the torture of the 2 year old awake! |
I still don't know how they did the Disney trip. Keeping track of that many kids? I know they brought help, but still....WOW.
Plus the kids are totally adorable. I wish I could have them as neighbors. |
I'm so glad someone started a thread for this show! I love it!
They're probably my favorite "multiple family" just because they strike me as very normal people. I also like that they make an effort to take their kids to do all the normal kid trips like Disney, even if it drives them all nuts in the process! I agree with whomever said that their kids will grow up to be very good looking. |

Those potty training episodes were also funny. Never have I seen so much excitement for peeing and pooping. With the exception of Kate's brother and sister/brother in law, we never really get to see Kate's or Jon's immediate families. Kate said in the birthday episode that their immediate famlies are not a part of their daily lives and that's why they have pseudo-grandparents like Nana Janet around. I always thought that was strange. I understand that not everyone gets along with their parents/siblings, and I can't help but wonder if it's the way it is because they just don't want to be in front of the cameras. |
Quote:
We did meet Gammy (Jon's Mom's Mom) on the 3rd birthday episode. |
Quote:
It was neat to learn more about Jon's dad when they took the kids to the dentist. It's nice that Jon and the kids still go to the office his father started. Funny what you learn on message boards. The boys' last names are in honor of Jon, Kevin (Kate's brother), and Thomas (Jon's dad). And the girls? Faith. Hope. Joy. |
And Mady's middle name is Kate.
Now I sound like one of the stalkers. I swear, I have no plans to visit central Penn. to try and find them! The entry that I couldn't believe was the one saying the protective services should be called because the kids were left outside while Kate was inside making lunch. HELLO -- they were filming the kids outside, so at a minimum a camera guy and a sound guy were outside as well. |
Quote:
Aside from their technical duties, I have to wonder how involved the camera guy, sound guy, and Jen the Producer get when it comes to the kids. I know they try to stay out of it as much as possible, but if Colin and Alexis are beating the crap out of each other (which seems to be the norm -- they won't be taking each other to the prom!), do they let them beat the crap out of each other? Do they intervene? Do they scream for Kate to break them up? |
I don't watch the show, but I like seeing the kids every 6months or so growing up more. :)
|
I'm not sure. A couple of weeks ago they aired an episode of clips that never aired and Kate was talking about how interesting it is to go back and watch the film because she sees things then that she didn't as they were actually happening. They showed two of the boys beating each other with blocks and she made a comment about how the camera guy didn't tell her.
I did think it was amusing in the episode where they went to see the Sequoias (sp?) when Jon asked Jen to do something and Kate yelled at him, "You're supposed to pretend they're not there!" |
yeah, but then they showed the clip of Kate throwing the dirty diaper at Jen and then the clips of the kids checking out all of the equipment. So I have to think they are somewhat communicative.
Plus, if someone tried to kidnap one of the kids or if one of the kids wandered off, I have to believe that the camera or sound person would do something. |
I love this show!!
|

I think they try their best not to be involved, but if the kids are in obvious danger, they'll intervene if Jon and Kate aren't around. That's just natural instinct. That crew must be deaf by now. |
I just like that Jon and Kate really seem like normal people, they get irritated with each other and snip at each other and the kids, they don't try to make things look perfect for the cameras. Some of those women in the 16+ kids-type-shows just seem unrealistically calm and placid (possibly heavily medicated?). And Jon just always looks... tired. God love 'im.

I much prefer driving through the night - kids are asleep, and roads are less crowded. Only works if you are a night owl, I guess.
|
I LOVE this show, but sometimes I wonder-Jon is like half white, but the kids look so asian (at least to me) and I wonder if Kate ever feels left out looks wise-I'm sure she'll show up in them more prominently in the future, but they look even more asian than their dad sometimes! I date interracially and it makes me wonder if my kids will even look like me if I married that way!
They are very cute and very real and I just love Kate's parenting style and Jon's laid back attitude. Those kids are the most adorable and well-brought up. |
She once commented that she'd like at least ONE to look like her. Genetic roulette - my brother is the spitting image of my grandfather.
|
I grew up near them... my sister has seen their van driving around town.
|
The kids are looking a lot more "white" as they grow up.
I love Alexis & Leah. They're the cutest! And Mady & Cara are such amazing big sisters. Like.. even my bf was impressed. (yes i made him watch) :D |
ive been watching this show since it first aired (im a sucker for reality tv!) and i love it! i dont know how they do it with 8 kids! i know people that cant even handle one! i hope they keep doing this show or at least do updates for when the sextuplets start school. or do an update show when they start driving (yah i know thats a long time away). can you imagine having to share a car with 5 siblings the same age as you? or when they start dating...i wouldnt want to bring home a date in that house!!! i hope that they keep this show around for a long time!

And I love how the kids have kind-of paired up with a buddy, however whenever they mention the kids going to prom with each other, it does seem a little ooky to me! |
I know that for some schools it is becoming more common to go to prom with your friends rather than the big, romantic couples thing it was back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I was in high school. I much prefer the newer approach!
|
I loved the show where the plastic surgeon and his wife made it possible for her to get a tummy tuck. I can so understand why she took them up on the offer!
I couldn't watch the gory details...but it made me look at that little gift my two kids gave me (that ended my bikini modeling career!) and now I'm totally secure in knowing I'll never need a tummy tuck or want one! |

You see the kids and their different personalities and interests and one can't help but wonder what these kids will be when they grow up. Like, if Aaden's going to keep up his love for animals and be a zoologist. If Hannah's still going to be mommy-like. And if Alexis will still be playing with her "aldergators". |
Anyone else watch this last night? The tumble bus looked like a blast. Too bad they don't have one for grown-ups!
|
I saw it! And ditto for the tumble bus. What a cool idea!
I also think it's so cute and funny that Jon picks out Kate's clothes. |
Quote:
It's amazing to see how grown up the twins are now. I remember their first special and they were only 5, I think. Now they're getting phone calls from friends at home! Oh my! The best part of the episode? Colin asking Carla's daughter "will you kiss my hiney?" And yeah...I want my own tumblebus! :D Can't wait for next week and see their home movies and behind the scenes stuff... |
Quote:
The kiss my hiney part was great! and the twins really are growing up- I remember Jon talking about having 2 6year olds and 6 two year olds and how he loved telling people that becuase they always looked confused. How old are the 6pack- I remember their 3rd birthday but I'm not sure when they turn 4? |
