My Live Spring Rush Story
 

Well i finally decided to rush. I went to the meeting yesterday.... well.... it was quite interesting to say the least. there were 5 sororities there....

i'll name them after disney Princesses [i guess. lol]

Before Meeting them

Jasmine - I heard about them a lot. Generally they were know as sweet girls. I didn't know anybody here, so it's not my first choice

Snow White - Well known for being the pretty girls on campus, but not much else. I knew a girl from here, and this is my second favorite group.

Belle - Known for being sweet friendly girls by all. I knew a few girls here, but not too well. This was the group i wanted to be part of.....

Ariel - Diverse group. I know a few girls here, and we are close [not best friends tho]. Every Ariel I ran into was sweet and friendly.

Aurora - Sweet girls. I know quite a few of Auroras. For some reason i don't want to be a part of this group.

ok. well here's the after thought of the orgs:

Jasmine - I really liked the girls. The recruiters seemed sincere and nice. I really connected with them, more than i expected.

Snow White - I def. got the cold shoulder from this group. The recruiters barely gave me eye contact. It made me feel sad.

Belle - This booth was mobbed by almost every girl there. The recruiters were kind of overwhelmed so i didn't get much of a vibe period. I still want to be part of them.

Ariel - They couldn't make the meeting, so no booth was there for them. = [

Aurora - Talked with them a lot and talked about my friends in Aurora. They seemed sweet, but i still didn't really want to be a part of them.

what is the recruitment schedule?

Can I ask, why would you want to be part of a group that you got no vibe from?

i've heard a lot of good things about them [they might not throw the best parties, but they are great girls all around], and their ideals are what i try to strive for.
I think i got no vibe because i was surrounded by about 20 girls asking questions and looking at pictures at the same half of a table. i def still want to give them a shot.

its just informal. If you want to go to a house for an event, and are invited to do so, you can. After going to a few events [ranging from meet and greets to movie night] if you feel connected, and the group feels the same, they can offer you a bid.

How did the Jasmine party go? Any news from Aurora?

I had a church event that i was a part of so i didn't get to go to aurora. but my friend that did go said that they are really nice, but some of them are strange. Aurora is getting desperate here for members, since not many that go through formal rush choose them. they'll pretty much take you no matter what.

as for Jasmine......
both my friend and i LOVED them. they are really sweet classy girls. i had a lot in common with the girl who interviewed me. but its been 3 days, and i still haven't heard anything from them. niether has my friend.

If she's going to say lesbian, it really depends on the campus as to whether or not it's an issue.

I'm going to bet on person of color. If she was a lesbian, how would she necessarily know that other PNMs were not? It's not like it's visible! So I'm going to go with colored person! OMG! I'll be so excited if I'm right! But it's probably something like Junior or Senior maybe?

Perhaps, but I don't think she'd be so hesitant to say she was an upperclassman or a person of color - there's still a stigma attached to any sexuality that isn't hetero and it makes more sense she may be nervous to admit that she's gay, if she is.

I am an Indian.... one of the maybe about 100 [or less] on campus.
i was born in America....

the fact that i am even going through rush makes the other [maybe 20?] indian girls on campus [ most of them have a rocky relationship with me due to the fact that my boyfriend is well... white ] feel like i am betraying them.... or selling them out.

on the plus side my friend got a bid into Snow White..... WHEN WILL MY STORY END?? i can't wait to post a key.
Ariel hasn't even started Recruiting... and Aurora and Belle already handed out their bids..... no one seems to have heard anything from Jasmine [its down to Jasmine or Ariel].... even with that fact, i am losing hope.

I WAS RIGHT! YAY! :D Good luck and please continue! Contact your Greek Life office and make sure who has and hasn't given out bids just so that you can accurately evaluate your situation. I do hope you hear from Jasmine! It seems to me as if perhaps formal rush may be better as this type of recruitment seems to be confusing...

native american or ancestors from the country of india?

Based on her desciption of the other Indian women on the campus, it's the Asian Indian. Many of their marriages are still arranged and the girls typiclly don't have boyfriends. One of my very good friends is from India, and I love her stories. She is sort of a "Bend It Like Beckham" girl.

That makes me :( Although I'm pulling for Aerial ;)

and the thing that irks me most is that my parents know about him.... they were just like pray about it to see if he's the right one. if they know.... they why should they make a big deal about it... too much drama.

Don't feel bad. My Indian friend turned her parents down three times for arranged marriages. Finally, she gave in. The videos from the wedding are so funny. She had a look of horror on her face when they tied the necklace on her (equivalent to the ring in the US). Luckily, he is a wonderful man.

are you worried about people at your school knowing that you are writing this thread? some people on here dont care, but others are really nervous about keeping their identity secret.

if you are one of those people worried about keeping your identity secret, you should edit some of your posts, like taking out your name and such.

So this is what i got back.....


Since Spring Recuitment is informal, Panhellenic does not really have anything to do with what the sororities do. The sororities do not have to tell Panhellenic when they are giving out bids or anything. New Members can be taken until March 28th, so there is really no way of knowing if the sororities will take new members up until then. If you would like, I could email the recruitment directors your name, phone number, and email address. If you would like me to do this, just let me know.

Also, just keep in mind that you could always participate in Fall Formal Recruitment to get a chance to meet with all eleven sororities.

Yeah, I know our chapter did it like that too. We would have a few open events, then have a couple invite only events and then hand out bids maybe the next day after that. In this case, no news is bad news. :( I would have the office e-mail my info and see if you get a more definitive response. It could be that they're slacking on giving out bids - it just depends on the chapter as to their timeline of doing things. I hope we hear a happy ending!!!

But in this case she doesn't know when bids were supposed to be handed out. I agree not everyone needs to be contacted, but the least a chapter could do is clearly define when the date of the bids will be extended. No one should be completely left in the dark. A simple "Friday by 4pm, if a bid is extended a sister will personally visit you/the MD will call you/the chapter will bum rush you in the street and sing a song in your ear, etc." will do.

Oh, I totally agree. Unfortunately, there's a large number of chapters that just don't say anything if someone isn't invited to join.
