Bucket List

I have yet to see the movie and I don't even know if I will. But I do think it's an interesting concept.

So, the question is, what is on your bucket list?
Anything you have done that you think others should add to theirs?

FYI, a bucket list is a list of things to do before you "kick the bucket"...

Leslie Anne 01-23-2008 06:43 AM

Great topic! (I haven't seen the film either, but I plan to.)

My bucket list off the top of my head:

1. Go to Sicily to see where my ancestors were from.
2. Write a book. (whether it gets published or not)
3. Go back to ballroom dancing. (Floating on air and feeling like Ginger Rogers is something I absolutely MUST experience again.)
4. Get married. (I've picked out my perfect wedding dress and I'm gonna wear it even if I have to stand outside a church with a sign "bride available!")
5. Get a master's degree.
6. Own a dog.
7. Read William Faulkner's The Sound and The Fury. (It's been pestering me since high school.)
8. Try to find a long lost Kappa Delta sister if only to tell her how much she meant to me in college.
9. Become Kappa Delta's National Ritualist. (Okay, so the position doesn't even exist, but I can dream right?)

If I were younger and healthier I would add:

10. Go to Rio de Janeiro for Carnaval.
11. Drive a race car once.
12. Take acting classes and perform on stage.
13. Learn how to play the piano.
14. Have children. (either my own or adopted)

So many more things have popped into my head but I'll leave my list as is.

ETA: This could be a really great motivator for anyone who adds their list. Wouldn't it be great to come back to the thread later and see a whole bunch of notes saying, "DONE!" :)

I didn't think I'd like it because I'm not really a big fan of Jack Nicholson, but the boy's dad told us that we'd enjoy it, and we actually did. Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson are fantastic!

You are never too old for that. I use to race with guys that were in their 70s. Unless you are blind, you can still do it....often!

On this subject... has anyone else heard of www.43things.com?

It is a social networking site that links you to other people that have the same things on your list of lifetime goals. To me I've found it pretty interesting to see which of my own goals are super popular and which ones are pretty unique to either just me or a few.

AlethiaSi 01-23-2008 03:09 PM

hmm... this is a good topic, and someone mentioned this to me before, but i haven't really thought about it yet.

1. Road trip across the US
2. Travel/ backpack across Europe (Germany, Spain, Greece, more of Italy, more of England and France, Portugal, Netherlands, Scotland, you get the idea)
3. Race car driving school (LOL Leslie Anne, you aren't the only one!!)
4. Drive on the Autobahn
5. Get Master's
6. Get Ph.D.
7. Get married (i'd like to, but I have no prospects as of yet...)
8. have babies AND adopt and/or be a foster mom
9. Meet Ani Difranco... her music changed my life (I'd like to meet other people of course, but she's definitely number 1)
10. Be a professor
11. Have enough money to pay my bills in the same month (low goal, but sadly it's needed right now)
12. be able to help my friends/family financially
13. Take ballet classes again
14. See Bob Dylan in concert (see a lot more ppl in concert actually)
15. Go to Mardi Gras (hopefully New Orleans will return to it's glory once again)
16. Restore my sorority house to it's full beauty (it's pretty beat up...:()
17. I would love to expand my sorority to another campus so it's regional.

1. Live in New York
2. Finish my book (it's a neat concept)
3. Represent musicians

'Tis true. I mainly did club racing (won a national title in 1997), but I did a couple of open-wheeled classes at Mid Ohio. I sold my car 4 years ago :(, but am still a big enthusiast.

I was going to get into SCCA, but unless you have a lot of sponsors and loads of vacation time at work, it can be very expensive. I had a blast doing it and met some great people.

Maybe to being able to attend some funerals for people who do not desearve it!

What a trip that would be!

You want to attend people's funerals who don't deserve to have them?

You're an idiot.

Go drink some scotch and stand in traffic.

LMAO

LucyKKG 01-23-2008 10:49 PM

Hahahahahahah!

Ok, but yeah, I'm on 43things! Some of my "things" are lame, but some are decent! Hmm...floss every day, donate blood, learn to surf...

As far as "bucket list" type stuff,

1) Donate blood
2) Visit Spain
3) Run a mile without stopping
4) Learn how to drive stick-shift
5) Get married
6) Have kids
7) Get a labrador retriever (lol)
8) Be an influential teacher (you know, after I get my credential...like 3 years from now)

1. go to Maui, see humpback whales from inflatable small boats. Been whale watching numerous times, but on big boats, they got scared, or just flipped their tales. On 1 whale watching trip, I saw no whales, but did see a small plane crash into ocean, called my news desk. Maui, probably in March.:)
2. Achieve goal of not being a terrible surfer.
3. Find my dad's side of the family, I have 7 aunts/uncles, most I've never met.
4. Meet a guy who makes me smile, get married, possibly adopt an older child.
5. Stop when I am ahead while playing slots in Vegas.
6. Laugh More.
7. Finish post graduate classes I start next month, possibly go for a master's, and work in student affairs. School plans have been derailed twice, finally, things are shaping up. No more silliness by schools.
8. Get my cat to stop attacking the sofa.
9. Get to NY, NY and see a Broadway play.
10. Learn how to walk in high heels without tumbling.
11. Return to New Orleans, was there pre-Katrina.
12. Enjoy not calling a news desk.

jmagnus 01-24-2008 01:36 AM

Well, I suppose that since I started this thread I should post mine too. So here goes:

1. Invent something useful

3. Graduate CC and go back to SIUC to rejoin my chapter
4. Meet Mr. T
5. Visit Rome again
6. Backpack through Europe
7. Drive a racecar (not NASCAR, local dirt-track stuff) www.rockfordspeedway.com
8. Go to Crandon, WI for off-road races
9. Learn to SCUBA dive
10. Live in a big city (i.e. NY, Chicago, LA)
11. Try Absinth
12. See a NASCAR race
13. Go to the Adult Entertainment Expo in Vegas
14. Go to Mardi Gras
15. Visit Amsterdam
16. See the pyramids
17. Go somewhere other than home for Spring Break
18. Be on TV
19. Meet Chuck Norris
20. Work for TKE
21. Hang out with a rockband backstage
22. Find my family members in Sweden
23. Quit smoking (someday, for right now I enjoy it and don't want to quit)
24. Visit the Maker's Mark distillery
25. Go to Bonnaroo again
26. Own a bar or restarunt
27. Own a Jeep Wrangler
28. Ski in Colorado
29. Get a CDL
30. See the Body World exhibit again

Things I've crossed off my Bucket List:

1. Be an Eagle Scout
2. Visit Hawaii
3. Go somewhere not in North America
4. Be a radio DJ
5. Learn Bass Guitar
6. See Tom Petty concert

Congrats! One of my sisters told me tonight that her boyfriend just became an Eagle Scout. I think that's a really valuable thing. My dad never made it that high. He was a life scout.

That's too cool! My dad and brother both raced cars so I grew up around it. I blame my need for speed on the fact that my brother taught me how to drive. :D I wish I had paid closer attention to what was going on because I don't even know what kind of cars they raced or anything.

What kind of car did you have? I'm totally fascinated! :D

Reading all of these posts makes me realize what a fabulously rich life I already have! I've done a lot of things already mentioned on the Bucket Lists of some of y'all. Of course, I have dreams that haven't been realized yet...those would be:

1) To act (in tv, theater, movies... whatever paid the bills). I'm most happy when I'm on stage.

2) To go on an archaeological dig. I love history, and searching for ancient items of the past would be awesome, IMO.

3) To live in London. I love, love, love London.

4) To maybe run for a political office. Politics is the second secular love of my life.

5) To ride in a hot-air balloon.

I'll add one more:
31. Fly in space. Virgin will soon be offering passenger flights from what I hear.

Old thread I thought worthy of bringing back up.

I have a list but I'm compiling it. Like a bad Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, I'll be back. ;)

I had posted on Facebook once that "it was time to make a bucket list." I didn't realize that given my unpredictable health, people might think the worst. So I had to post another message telling everyone I was okay. I guess I need to call it something else. Perhaps my "Things I wanna do" list?

Over the last 2 years, I've clicked several things off my bucket list:
See the pyramids
See Ephesus
See Pompeii
Live in a foreign country
Go on a Mediterranean cruise
Have friends from every continent on the globe

so I've had to re-work my list. Here goes (as I'm thinking of them so no particular order)
Tour India on the Palace on Wheels
Live in the tropics
Live in Europe
Sell super luxury travel (I'm up to near-luxury clients now)
Speak another language fluently (I used to speak French and I can do reasonably well with Spanish. I have maybe 10 words in Arabic)
Take a world cruise
Be a House Mom
learn how to bake bread (it's the tragedy of my life - I'm a great cook but the only kind of bread I can make is brioche)

Tulip86 11-02-2011 07:32 PM

1. get my Master's Degree
2. get my French back to fluent
3. Learn a fifth language fluently
4. travel Jordan/Syria/Lebanon
5. visit New York
6. Road trip around the southern states
7. see the pyramids
8. find the place where I had that amazing brisket
9. Learn to surf
10. See the grand canyon
11. Get over my fear of open water and learn to dive
12. Find a job that I love
13. Take photography classes
14. Write a cookbook
15. Volunteer more

aephi alum 11-03-2011 10:22 PM

Hmmm... my list is always evolving.

One item on my bucket list that I recently accomplished was to get a cat. I went from my parents' house (they didn't want pets) to the dorms (no pets allowed) and then moved in with my husband, who is allergic to cats ... but we learned about Siberian cats earlier this year, and now own an adorable flamepoint kitten. :) (Or, rather, he owns us...)

I want to travel to Australia, New Zealand, Eastern Europe, and Israel. (I've already been to much of western Europe and parts of Asia). I also want to visit those Canadian provinces I haven't already visited. Visiting all 50 states was on my bucket list, but I accomplished that at age 14.

I want to learn how to drive stick, how to ride a motorcycle, and how to ride a bicycle. (I think I'm the only person I know who didn't learn how to ride a bike as a child.)

I want to go back to London. Haven't been there in over a decade (i.e. before the Millennium Wheel was constructed), and my husband has never been there. And I want to rent a car there, and drive on the wrong side of the road and not get ticketed for it. hehehe

I want to see Evanescence, Linkin Park, and Within Temptation in concert.

And I'd love to travel in space ... a trip to the moon at minimum. But I doubt this will happen.

NinjaPoodle 11-05-2011 02:43 AM

I've taken a few things off my list as well:
Fly first class
Visit my sorority's IHQ
Own a Movado
Live at the beach
Visit Miami
