Bill Clinton has a Dream...in church...

In the midst of the seemingly constant bickering between the Obama and Clinton camps, I found this interesting....

Bill has a dream...during a church service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

** he was dreaming about monica....**

Benzgirl 01-22-2008 08:36 PM

Lol I loved the nodding when he woke up, trying to play it off like he was in deep thought. Has he responded to any of this?

DSTCHAOS 01-22-2008 11:43 PM

That sucks but I know how it feels to be at a long event and struggle to stay awake. His schedule that day was probably exhausting.

He's just a former pres who was behind the pulpit doing that. Not a good idea. :)

The head nod WAS funny because I think we've all done it when we're trying play our sleepiness off. LOL.

preciousjeni 01-23-2008 12:08 AM

Poor ole guy. :(

DeltAlum 01-23-2008 12:28 AM

Maybe not in church, but anyone here who hasn't done that?
(I've done it in church)

nittanyalum 01-23-2008 12:31 AM

LOL. I've done it in church, school, work meetings... it's so embarrassing.

AGDee 01-23-2008 12:32 AM

There's a guy in my department who does that in every meeting we have. It's a running joke now...

I have honestly never "nodded off." If anything I have trouble doing so. This is why I always get stuck driving. There was one time when I was driving and I got to the point that I could go no further - I started breathing as if I were asleep, if that makes any sense...that slow, steady breathing. I got freaked out and pulled over at a hotel. The rate was too much for me, so I ran in and asked the hotel guy to watch my car and to call the police if anyone attacked me. I got an hour or so of sleep and continued on my way.

LOL! Not that you all needed to know all that.

I've done that in church.

Me too. I can fall asleep anywhere. So, while it's funny, I'm not mad at him. He's old and on the campaign trail. That's a rough schedule.

ZTAngel 01-23-2008 08:46 AM

I've done it in a work meeting. So embarrassing. I can't sit there in those marathon 2 hour meetings without getting sleepy.

Senusret I 01-23-2008 09:41 AM

This is one of many reasons why I feel that only clergy should sit in pulpits.

I haven't fallen asleep, but I've come out of a few churches with black & blues on my thigh from digging my nails in, to stay awake. I may leave work today with the same problem...

kstar 01-23-2008 11:25 AM

He was at so many things that day, I can totally understand it, especially since those ceremonial type speeches aren't that different from one another.

Kevlar281 01-23-2008 01:37 PM

I understand why everyone is giving him a pass on this but lets say it was George Bush Sr., I have a feeling this thread would be reading a lot differently.

Senusret I 01-23-2008 01:38 PM

^^^ I actually was surprised people seemed to be giving him a pass -- I'm sure not. :)

Actually, I would totally give GB Sr. a pass as well. I would actually give anyone a pass on this, whether I "like" them or not, because I've been there before, it is so hard and frustrating trying to fight the drowsiness and it is so so so embarrassing. So I just feel for the person. Wasn't there an incident where Cheney did it behind Bush during a State of the Union or something like that? Even with how much I detest that man, I still gave him a pass. It's human and it's not something to "hold" against somebody. And I'm sure GB Sr. is giving Bill a pass, particularly since they're golf buddies now.

It wouldn't be different for me. I don't dislike George Bush Sr. and I'm not a fan of Bill Clinton.

He's not getting a pass from me so much as I'm saying I can understand being exhausted. It happens. The problem is that he's a public figure who was in the pulpit during an "important" speech so he should've done better. I'm just not interpreting his nodding off as meaning that he's disinterested in the much larger cause.

Amen! Like others said, you definitely have to take his age and hectic schedule into consideration.

My dad is around Bill's age and he falls asleep ALL the time in church. My mom is really embarrassed by it and is constantly nudging him...Like I tell my mom, better in church than behind the wheel!

DSTCHAOS 01-23-2008 06:15 PM

Bill Clinton is only about to be 62. LOL.

If he was in his 70s and older, then maybe age could be taken into consideration.

Drolefille 01-23-2008 08:30 PM

I agree with the "it's not that I'm assuming he's disinterested, but he should have known better" stance.

His AGE? My gods, he's only 62 or so. So is his wife - well, 60.

Remember, Bill and truth and goodness have not always been on speaking terms. He's probably not well acquainted with proper behavior in church. Nor anywhere else.

AGDee 01-24-2008 12:17 AM

62, but with some serious heart issues too. That can really fatigue you.

Maybe so, but Bill will always be the man in my eyes ;)
