Oscars 2008

Nominations for the 80th Annual Academy Awards will be announced live (on E!) tomorrow morning at 8:38 a.m. EST, regardless of whether or not the awards will air on February 24, 2008 (I perish the thought ).

Hasta manana! :D

Obsession8 01-22-2008 10:15 AM

Yippee!

And, the nominees are...

Early prediction: No Country for Old Men will own the Oscars this year (as well it should). The Academy should just send Javier Bardem his Oscar right now. :D

More reaction later...

I see they snubbed Denzel....

Russell Crow also got snubbed. I'm glad Rubye Dee grab a nomination.

MzJ25 01-22-2008 01:26 PM

I'm sad to see they snubbed Denzel. I thought both of his movies were great. I guess the academy said "NOOOO SIR, we are not gonna have this two years in a row."

darling1 01-22-2008 03:00 PM

...

i wish he were nominated for the great debaters vs american gangster.

i hope transformers wins in all of their categories:D

Not a whole lot of mainstream movies nominated!

Obsession8 01-23-2008 11:40 PM

Oprah will have some of the nominated actors and actresses on her show tomorrow. :)

Yep! He played the hell out of that character! That scene with the old man and the quarter (flip the coin scene) was classic! I was so scared for that old man....

Javier Bardem has taken Benecio Del Toro's place in my book!

No Country for Old Men was a great movie and should do very well at the Oscars.

Counting Down the Hours...

Benzgirl 02-24-2008 12:52 PM

The Red Carpet is the best part.

Obsession8 02-24-2008 09:00 PM

YIPPEE!!!

Show's on now! I'm impressed with the red carpet arrivals so far (lots of stunning red gowns)! :)

Ruby Dee looks beautiful. I hope she's a winner tonight.

Benzgirl 02-24-2008 09:33 PM

LOVED LOVED LOVED Heidi Klum's gown. And it is up for auction after the show. Unfortunately, I can't squeeze my bootie into a Size 2.

Benzgirl 02-24-2008 09:40 PM

Best Joke

"Oscar is 80, which automatically makes him the front-runner for the Republican nomination".

I loved that jab, too (lol)! ;o)

I'm loving the format so far, even though I picked "Sweeney Todd" to win for Costume Design.

ETA: George is looking quite delish tonight. :D

Obsession8 02-24-2008 10:15 PM

I'm getting *KILLED* on my ballot so far, but these are some wonderful surprises nevertheless. :)

ETA! These flashback montages are delightful as well! :)

Obsession8 02-24-2008 10:20 PM

JAVIER!!! Aye, papi! :D

Obsession8 02-24-2008 11:00 PM

Wonderful show so far...*LOVED* that 2nd number from Enchanted! :D

It's boring to me. :(

skeeliteful 02-24-2008 11:23 PM

^^^

It's boring to me too. Ellen did a better job hosting.

nittanyalum 02-24-2008 11:51 PM

The singer of that 3rd Enchanted song is a cutie-patootie!

Yup, but that song was the "weakest" of the 3 nominated songs from "Enchanted," IMO. I picked the song from "Once" to win, so I'm happy. :)

Yep, Yep!

Javiar won for Best Supporting Actor....I can stop watching now....

Obsession8 02-25-2008 01:45 AM

See you next year!

Well, another Oscars is in the books! I got 14 out of 24 correct (one less than last year). Even though my ballot was blown all to hayle, I'm glad the show wasn't as predictable as I had expected (with the exception of all the much-deserved wins for No Country For Old Men, of course :D). In general, I was pleased. :)

See y'all next year!

He always looks good. :)

The format/flow worked better this year. But it was still boring only because the winners didn't give dramatic speeches.

darling1 02-25-2008 01:34 PM

i liked it

i thought it was good. was it the best, well, nope, but it was certainly consistent and ran smooth. i think jon stewart did a great job!

something i noticed during the montages, whoopie goldberg was not 'noted' for having hosted the awards 4 times. you saw her when she won her award. i thought that was kinda weird.

The winners didn't really have time to give the heartwrenching dramatic speeches, the orchestra would have started playing them off. I think "helping" people wrap it up is a good idea, but I think they should lengthen the time that they do give them.

By the way, I loved how Javiar Bardem did the last part of his speech in Spanish, speaking directly to his mother!

i agree to the above. plus, it was talked about on The View Whoopi being overlooked. she seemed disappointed to have been overlooked and moved that her "co-workers" pointed it out and were mad about it.
i really liked that Jon Steward brought out the co-winner of the Best Song award so that she could give her acceptance speech having been cut off before. plus, him playing the video game w/the young Black singer was really cute:D
