Hey guys! Recruitment starts tomorrow for me, deferred of course. It lasts four days, Monday is pref, then later on in the day is bid day. Tomorrow are the open houses where we visit all 9 sororities.

I decided to use the planets for code names (Pluto is still a planet to me) :)

Okay! So I just got back. What a long day! My cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing so much. After this, I'm going straight to bed, lol.

Okay, so the first party was Jupiter. I walked in nervous, but was grabbed by a sister and led to a group. Small talk, name, year, major, how winter break was were the major questions. The girl I talked to was very nice and knew how to keep the conversation going. She led me to meet more sisters, which was good, I felt like I had met alot of the Jupiter. They all were very nice and energetic. I don't recall any awkward moments from this party.

Next was Earth. Their theme wasn't very impressive. I walked in and was greeted by a sister that I had met once before, but she was very shy and stayed to herself. I talked to her and she didn't introduce me to any other sister. We all sat around in a circle after the first ten minutes and each got a mini candy bar. Depending on which candy bar you got, depends on which question you answered. It was a fun game, and after, I met a couple more sisters. However, I didn't click with the ones I met. I had a hard time keeping the conversation going and had to keep asking ice breaker questions over and over. I was not impressed with Earth.

After, we went to Mars. Their theme was adorable, they rotated nicely, so I met alot of sisters and still had conversations, most went deeper than the "Oh, hi, just met you" sort of conversations. The girls I talked to were very nice, I really liked this sorority. At the last five minutes of the party, all the PNMs sat on the couches while Mars all lined up in rows and sang us a song. The song was adorable and funny, they all smiled and seemed to love their sorority.

Next was Saturn. We walked in and they had cute little dining tables. So two PNMs sat at each table with two sisters. I really felt like I clicked with the girls. I felt like I could say whatever without having to really think about it. Alot of girls came by and introduced themselves. I made a couple jokes, and I guess they were funny because they all laughed, haha. I even started coughing on my drink because it went down the wrong way, and it wasn't even that embarrassing, more funny and the girls laughed with me.

Next was Mercury. I first walked in and the girl I met was one of my classes last semester. She led me over to two other girls and we talked. I met a couple girls, however I felt a bit awkward there. These girls seemed too perfect and I felt like I couldn't wake up everyday and "perfectionize" myself. The conversations weren't too bad. We played a game with a snow ball (fake) that asked us a name/major/question. Some of the girls I noticed weren't paying attention to whoever had the snowball. I had some nice conversations, but felt like I didn't click.

After we had a 20 minute break.

Venus was the first after the break. The girls had a really cute and colorful music theme going on with a jukebox that one of the art students in the sorority made. I really liked the theme. The girls were nice. There was a couple awkward moments/silences, so I tried to quickly cover that up with "How was your break" and other ice breaker questions to start up and hopefully keep the conversation lit. I did like this sorority, however I didn't see myself here.

Next was Uranus. Walked in and we were seated on couches while the sisters kneeled on the floor right infront of us. I was a tad bit uncomfortable because they were so so close, I felt like I couldn't move at all. The sister that met me was nice, but continuously complemented me on my outfit. It was really flattering until she said it about three more times and then went to other sisters pointing it out. Haha, it was kind of funny though. The sister didn't rotate at all, I noticed that all my PNM group was still with the same sister by the time we left. Near the end of the party, the sister kept asking me over and over if I had any questions. I honestly couldn't think of anything besides asking about their philanthropy. I do not see myself here.

Neptune was next. I knew many of these girls and walked in not as nervous as the others. Their theme was cute and the lights were dimmed, making things easy on our eyes. I talked with many of the sisters I knew already, met new ones. I really felt at home at this sorority. I felt like I could say anything. I loved the sisters and could joke around with them. I really loved this one.

Pluto was the final party. We were all very tired, our cheeks hurt from smiling so much. When we entered Pluto, I could definitely tell the sisters were all very tired. I met a couple sisters and clicked with most. We had hilarious conversations and conversations that would make you cringe, like getting your belly button ring ripped out. Haha, I liked these sisters. However I said hi to one of them and she completely ignored me, no smile or acknowledgment. But, that was just one. These girls were pretty with pretty personalities to go along with.

Tomorrow is philanthropy day. We can go back to a total of 7. So I had to eliminate two sororities.

For the OP or anyone else who's played similar games like this before: Do you play only with the little group of PNMs & sisters, or do you play with the whole chapter? My alma mater just switched to partially structured recruitment, and I think this kind of game might be a fun activity for them to do at one of their parties. I just want to get some more details so I can tell them about it. Thanks!

At our school we did it with the whole chapter, but I think it depends upon how big your chapter is. We've done it with about 45 active sisters in our chapter. You just don't want it to get too big because then it might take up too much time. I know instead of candy bars we just did colors of m&m's.

The sisters had to answer questions like:

-Why you joined/went greek/ chose ZTA
-Tell one of your favorite memories since joining ZTA
-Why you've stayed apart of the sorority
& I think we had one or two more but I can't think of them right now

For the PNMs:
-Why do you want to join a sorority
-How can our chapter benefit from you being a member
& I can't think of the other one ... Sorry it's been awhile.


Hope this helps! ... Our first round is philanthropy, so we didnt do it then. We usually did this the round before preference... when we had gotten to know the pnms a little better

Hey everyone! Just got done with today's events. I was asked back to Pluto, Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, and one of the one's I threw off my list, Earth.
I wasn't upset that I wasn't asked back to Mercury since I knew I didn't click. I was a bit upset about not being asked back to Mars, they were really cute... but it's for the best, after all I want to find the sorority thats RIGHT for me. :)

So today was philanthropy day, we visited each sorority for 40 minutes.

The first one I went to was Jupiter. I met new girls, some girls I met yesterday. Some that I don't even remember meeting called out my name across the room and waved. I felt good here and enjoyed the conversations with the girls. One girl I talked to, I found that it was kind of hard to continue a conversation. But we did find out that we went to the same high school together, and didn't even know it. I did like their philanthropy and the craft was fun. I do like this one.

The next one I went to was Earth, even though I took them off my list (as some others I know did), I thought I'd give them another shot to see if my mind changed at all. We walked in, there were colored dots all around the floor (to resemble a Candy Land game set up). We talked for about five minutes, I met with a different girl this time (there aren't many girls in this particular sorority). Again, the conversation felt forced and a sister came into the conversation, didn't say a word to me, and just stared and listened. I introduced myself finally to her, I think she was a bit shy, but again everyone can be at times. We went into another room and decorated paper gingerbread men, then went back to the main room and played Candy Land. (We were the markers that stepped on the colored circles and answered questions and they talked about their philanthropy, which I'm not too fond of. There were alot of awkward silences which I found was weird since there were alot of girls in the room. This one isn't for me.

Next, I went to Pluto. Some of the sisters remembered my name without even looking at the name tag. I felt like I didn't click as much with them as I did today. But we did rotate alot more than yesterday. We went into a room and made cards and as we were making them, we played a game where you tell two truths and one lie about yourself and they all have to guess which is the lie. It was fun. Then we went into another room and they showed us a slide show about what they do for fun and what they do for their philanthropy. I did like it and they seemed like they had alot of fun.

Next I went to Saturn. I wasn't too fond of their philanthropy. I met new girls here that I didn't click with as much as yesterday. We didn't rotate... the craft was awkward, many silences between all the girls in the room. There were alot of "So...." and "Uhhh...". I found it funny and laughed and tried to make conversation with the new group, but it didn't really go anywhere, lol. I don't think they are for me... so far.

Lastly, I went to Neptune. I met even more sisters that I had never met before. I loved them all, they were all very nice and funny. I could crack jokes and speak out and enjoyed myself. We talked and mingled, then went into a room and did the craft. It wasn't the most fun craft, but we had fun conversations and they talked about their philanthropy that I really am into and already do things in my own time for. Then we went into another room and played "Never Have I Ever", I had a really great time with that, lost the game and had to tell an embarrassing story. Then we went into the main room and watched a slide show of the sisters and talked, laughed. I really do love this sorority.

So I went back and ranked. We can go back to four tomorrow:

Neptune
Jupiter
Pluto
Saturn

Earth

So tomorrow is Skit/Video day and we visit the ones we were asked back to for 30 minutes. Wish me luck! :)

Well since Venus is out, I'm gonna change to Jupiter :) But since the OP really likes Neptune also, I hope she gets an invite to that one as well! Can't wait to hear how tonight goes!

Skit/Video day is over! I was asked back to Neptune and Jupiter.

This time, I went to Jupiter first. I was greeted by a new girl as I walked in. The conversation went okay, she was looking around the room alot which was a bit distracting to the conversation. The lights flickered and we all sat down and watched a little video about their sorority. I was kind of expecting a skit from them since they seemed like such a hip hipe sorority and engergetic. The sisters and their actions towards me and other PNMs showed that they were tired and I guess distracted. But I did have good conversations, the video was okay and I learned a bit more about their sorority.

Lastly, I went to Neptune. I walked in a met a new sister. She was really energetic and outgoing, and made me laugh alot, which is great because I love funny/people with a great sense of humor. I HAVE to be able to laugh and have fun with friends. The girls put together a skit, which was sort of like a beauty pageant representing lives of the girls and how that sorority works around things and has alot of interests. We then went into another room and played black jack. It was alot of fun and whoever bust had to tell an interesting fact about themselves. I talked with more sisters and I really started to feel like this sorority is the ONE. There was alot of talk amongst the PNMs about which sorority was their favorite, and alot of them like Neptune, which makes me a bit nervous about tomorrow's bids.

I left and ranked the two:
1. Neptune
2. Jupiter

Tomorrow is pref. I can't wait to wear my new dress. Then in the late afternoon is bid day/walk. I'm really excited to see where my rho gams end up and what happens with me. :)

Okay! So I haven't gotten a phone call yet, so I go at 3 to pick up my bid. So while I'm waiting in my jeans and white shirt, I'll tell you all how prefs went.

I was SO HAPPY to see I was asked back by Neptune, and surprisingly Jupiter, which I wasn't expecting because of yesterday, but still a full schedule of prefs to go to.

I went to Neptune first. We waited outside for awhile and finally were allowed to go in. I was first to walk in, the girls were gorgeous, and room was very nicely decorated, and the lights were beautifully dimmed. As I walked in, a sister that many other PNMs said I looked alot alike greeted me with a white rose/carnation. She smiled and led me to another sister and started talking. They had things in their hands to show me that meant alot to them. Another sister came up and they explained why I was invited back thus far and it really made me happy. They talked about their bid day's and how excited they were. Soon after, the lights flickered and and the ceremony begun. Several sisters talked about their sorority and friendship. One story in particular was a tear jerker and all the stories after that kept the tears in my eyes. These girls really did love each other and cared so much about each other. Other girls were wiping away run away tears and I heard several sniffles in the room. They all sang along in a song that showed true friendship and sisterhood. I left and made a wish wish a petal and walked out. I really knew this sorority was for me. I knew I wanted to be here.

After a break, I went to Jupiter next. I walked in first once again (alphabetical order) and the room was beautiful as were the girls. Although, when I walked in, I felt out of place. I wasn't sure if this was my home. Still, I stayed through the ceremony, which wasn't very long. The girls talked about their sorority and friendship as well, we all got flowers. They too seemed they loved each other, but I kept thinking about Neptune and how perfect I seemed there. The girls in Jupiter told stories that were very sweet. This ceremony didn't seem as personal as Neptune's, but one could really tell these sisters loved each other. I left and went with my rho gam to fill out my bid card. It didn't take much thought for me.

I ranked:
1. Neptune

I didn't put down Jupiter as second because I knew I wasn't meant to be there. It just felt like they weren't for me, although they were very nice girls, I didn't feel at home. I feel like I made the best decision.

I still haven't gotten "the phone call" yet... so I'm hoping the best. I'll definitely come back later and tell you guys what happened.

Yay!!! I hope you don't get the phone call and receive a bid to Neptune! And like all of us, we all will be dying to know where you end up! Here's to an awesome Bid Day/Walk for you! I'll sure be checking this thread come 3 o'clock... ;)
