Jenna Bush plans Wedding

While I hold my fellow Theta sister in the highest regard, if my dad were President I would go for a White House wedding!

She chose a Texas Wedding

I probably would too, but I guess that we say that because we can not have one. You know that thing about the unattainable. Idonno

I would have enjoyed the hoopla of a White House wedding, too, but at the end of the day, it's Jenna & Harry's day. Besides, just think of the number of people she'd have to invite to a White House wedding as compared to one in Crawford!

Tricia Nixon was the last to have one right? It was 1971; I was ten, but I do remember it!

In my observations, it seems like she and Barbara have tried to somewhat distance themselves from the Washington scene. I remember reading something to the effect of their not even wanting their dad to run for President. So I can see how she would opt for a more private wedding at her home.

I just wonder what kind of china and crystal she registers for.

But didn't Jenna teach at a school in DC? Although I can see the appeal of getting married "back home". And I'm sure the tabloids will let us know what is on her registry.

She'll be a beautiful bride! I was kind of looking forward to a White House wedding too. I love this description of Jessie Wilson's wedding at the White House so I hope you'll enjoy it too...

The afternoon of November 25, 1913. Where? THe White House. The wedding of Jessie Wilson to Francis Sayre. Seven of the bride's Gamma Phi sisters were invited to attend, and we can image their excitement as they were ushered into the East Room where the ceremony took place. Jessie and her sister Margaret had attended Goucher College while their father, Woodrow Wilson, was President at Princeton. Eleanor Wilson McAdoo described the wedding in her book "The Woodrow Wilsons": the East Room blazing with lights, the Marine band in scarlet coats, and crowds of guests on either side of a white ribboned aisle. But the reception was the "nicest part." Jessie was beautiful than ever before. Only a few were allowed to into the Blue Rom, and there was no formal line or anything to suggest that it was anything more than a quiet home wedding. We chatted for a moment with President and Mrs. Wilson and went across the room to greet Jessie and Mr. Sayre. Surely no one but the Wilson's could have done it in just that way. When we drove away we decided it was the nicest, most informal and happiest wedding we had ever attended." Margaret Handy, The Crescent."

Isn't that great?

... and whether she'll be asking her bridesmaids like KSUViolet to shell out hundreds per place setting on that china?!

You are probably right! I guess I should have clarified - My impression of the twins is that they prefer to live their lives outside of the spotlight. And Washington would be full of spotlights on them. Whether it be day-to-day stuff or a wedding.

But they did put themselves in the spotlight when they campaigned for him.

I might be in the minority on this (but again, when am I not in the minority? LOL), but I would rather get married at home, especially if home is a ranch, than getting married in DC, at a place that I didn't even live in. So, Jenna's decision to get married in Crawford surprises me very little.

Besides, she went to UT...so most of her friends are probably in Texas as well.

Sure. But they didn't do it to further their own agenda. They did it to help their dad. Hell, I don't know. I don't watch E or read People or anything. I am absolutely not qualified to make an informed statement about their personal lives. For all I know they want attention. But in MY observations, I don't know much about them - meaning the minutia of their lives is not detailed on the mainstream newschannels. Like Britney. Or Paris. Or any other attention-whore that I hear about daily.

Maybe they are profiled 24/7 elsewhere. Just not where I am or on the channels I watch. For the most part I would say the same about Chelsea Clinton - she's not an attention-whore. She's been more visible lately as she's been on the campaign trail for her mom, but I think she's doing it for her mom - not for herself. :D

That is a beautiful story!!! I can't help but wonder if there will be any Theta things mixed into her wedding!!! As much as I love our colors and our flower they are not always wedding appropriate!

I don't think there is anything wrong with adult children campaigning for a political parent. Didn't a couple of Theresa Heinz's sons even campaign for their stepfather John Kerry? And although I am a die-hard registered Republican, I do admire the fact thet Chelsea has had the political savvy/common sense to keep shenanigans under wraps (if there were even any to hide) unlike the Bush girls and their underage exploits in college. In fact, I remember wondering why these girls thought they could get away with showing a fake ID at college bars with 2 very obvious Secret Service men in close attendance.

BTW, I am not a Theta, but GEN Alum is a West Point grad and the school colors are black, grey, and gold (the colors of the three components of gunpowder). Our wedding reception was at the Hotel Thayer on post and those colors were used by the interior decorator of the banquet room. Luckily it was relatively subdued so it wouldn't clash with typical wedding colors.

My feeling is if I did or did not want to be in the spotlight, campagined or not campaign for my dad for president, i still would want a big white house wedding if the president was my dad. I mean they are who they are....they are Barbara and Jenna Bush. I would opt for an all glorified to-do wedding. Something to tell my grandkids about. Something like your great grandpa and great great grandpa were presidents of these United States and I was the first daughter and my wedding to your grandpa was at the White House with magnificiant flowers, china, silver, marine marching band, waiters and heads of states in some amazing Vera Wang Wedding dress......I would be shouting it from the roof tops !:)

I think a White House wedding would make the day more about her dad and who her dad is than her and her fiance - she'd end up having to invite all sorts of dignitaries and ambassadors. If she does it at the ranch, it'll be more like Munchkin said and she can invite her friends from college and Theta sisters without the obligation of having to invite a whole ton of "dad's work friends."

I think the wedding at the ranch will also be a lot less scrutinized than a White House wedding would. Honestly, who wants every little detail of their wedding analyzed like that?

I agree with GeekyPenguin - I personally would be tempted to have the White House "Big Wedding." But I also think that it speaks volumes about Jenna Bush's character and personality that she would choose to have her own wedding at the family ranch in Texas. A wedding is about those who really love you, for both the bride and the groom. It lends itself to a more intimate surrounding than the White House offers. Jenna Bush is simply telling the country that she does not want the pomp & circumstance, although she can have it. I like her style.

I'm sure you never drank when you were underage. I felt bad for her with that whole fiasco.

That being said, whoever is marrying her is a lucky guy, shes cute as hell.

I was kidding. I agree - she's definately cute. I saw her in person at SMU years ago when her dad came into Dallas for a visit.
