Narnia 2: Prince Caspian
We saw the trailer today! I can't wait! I have my ESOL students reading the book so we can all see it when it comes out in May.
It's been a long wait...last June we were at DisneyMGM and went through the Narnia walk-through exhibit (an actress dressed as the White Queen did a few lines, she was great) and at the end, they told us Prince Caspian would be out in May 2008! |
AWESOME!!
|
I can't wait!!!! I grew up reading the books! I think books turned into movies do a bad job, but the 1st one was amazing!!!! I already have plans to take my friend's two grade school age sons to the movie!!! Two points there...1 so I don't look like a dork at a kids movie and 2 so my friend and her husband can go on a date together! lol!
|
The trailer totally amazed and mesmerized me. This will totally be THE movie of the year for me. I love the Narnia books- they are my favorites. Although PC is my least favorite installment of the series, I still think the movie will totally rock.

I can't wait to see this! The trailer made it look so good!

Prince Caspian Superbowl Spot
Did everyone catch the trailer they aired during the Superbowl? The room I was in went quite, it was pretty funny. I go the chills, b/c I'm a huge nerd :p
but something about seeing it on a huge screen as opposed to my tiny monitor looked awesome. Love that Warwick Davis ('Willow'!) is in this movie also. The cast is so strong! |
In the trailer, when the kids walk out onto the beach, I get excited because I have actually been there (it's Cathedral cove, near Auckland, NZ) and I actually recognized it.
I hated the first one, but this one looks like it might be good....Of course the first one looked like it was going to be good too, but then I just ended up feeling dirty because of the pedophilic faun. |
I WILL BE AT THE MIDNIGHT SHOWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Even better

I liked this movie, but not as much as the first one!
The thing I didn't like was the fact that it really differed from the book some, including a whole new battle scene from what I recall... Also there seemed to be a lot less of Aslan than was in the book! The thing I love about the first one was that they stuck to the book, but this one seemed to differ some. |
Seeing as how I didn't read the book, it didn't bother me. I still liked the movie, it wasn't as good as the first one though.
Now, my friend read the book and throughout the movie kept telling me "they butchered the book....see this? It didn't happen in the book." So she ended up not really liking the movie. |
I absolutely loved "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" when I read it in school. I wanted to read the whole series, but didn't like "Prince Caspian", so I didn't continue with the rest of the series when I couldn't get through the 2nd book...
My husband and I watched it last night and I LOVED the movie!!! |

SPOILER ALERT I really hated the Susan/Caspian relationship. It wasn't as bad as it could have been or as most 'teen movies' might have made it, but it was unnecessary and contrary to the idea of the books. It really annoyed me. |
It was only ok.
I wasn't feeling the Susan thing either. :( But it was a joy to look at Ben Barnes for 2.5 hours!! :D |
I enjoyed it. The scenery was lush and beautiful.
It had a touch more humor than the first movie. Felt some kind of way about the centaurs and their jheri curls, though. |

And really, I just wanted to throw my soda at the screen during the whole Susan/ Caspian scene. I will admit I was afraid it might be much worse, though. Reepicheep was dead on, and there were many scenes directly lifting dialog from the book. |
I LOVED IT!!! I saw it at midnight and it was packed with adults, very few kids. I loved the Dear Little One, he was hilarious. I love how they played up Lucy being the youngest and the only one who could see Aslan. I'm reading The Horse and His Boy right now--I really wanted to get through PC before I saw the movie, but it's okay. I want to see it again once I get through the book.
I thought the who Susan thing was cute, but unnecessary. But cute. It'll draw more teens to go see it anyway...almost like if the first movie was for "kids" then this one is growing with the population. Of course that doesn't work with mostly adults going to see it, but anyway... |
I kept thinking where did "Caspian" get that gorgeous hair!;)
|
So after my friend and I left the movie theater, I kept saying "gosh, leave it to the Mexicans to illegally immigrate to another place. Now, not even Narnia is safe!"
ETA: So i don't know about you all, but I hate it when people use a movie to illustrate their main point----but they totally twist the plot around. My cousins graduate from their "Princess Ministries classes" (it was a 6-8 week long ministry on Purity), and during that ceremony there was a quick sermon. The dude used the bridge scene in Prince Caspian to illustrate his point. But instead of saying exactly what happened (which i wont mention since people probably havent seen it still), he claims that 1) Lucy didn't know Aslan was standing near her, and 2) then when what's-his-face (the guy standing on the bridge) says "Charge" or whatever, that Aslan JUMPS over Lucy and attacks the dude and the rest of the army. Yeah, i don't know what movie he was watching, but it sure wasn't the version I saw. His point was essentially about overcoming obstacles/adversities that might prevent you from the ultimate goal (heaven, i guess). But I could have TOTALLY thought of another biblical character that correlates better to that scene & that still illustrates his point. |
I liked the movie, but I don't think my bf liked it as much. It was his idea to go see it! The thing about Aslan not really being there was super weird. Prince Caspian was a hottie, though! I also think the Caspian/Susan thing was weird. My bf said he thought Susan was hot, but I think either a) he just said that to spite me or b) he just like girls in fantasy movies (LOTR chicks, Emma Watson).

I finally saw it! We thought that the guy playing Trumpkin was hysterical with those pained looks he kept shooting around.
It surely did deviate from the book but it was still good. It was cool when that general was the first to go through the tree exit. Now wait a minute. That's the last we see of Susan, right? She's not in the Last Battle. Ready for the Dawn Treader! |

Ready for Dawn Treader too! It's my favorite of the books... Although the Magician's Nephew and Silver Chair are up there too... I was discussing this with someone the other day, but even though they were very low-tech, I don't think these movies can ever quite live up to the BBC versions from the 80s that I grew up with... I LOVED those. These movies are great in their own right, but I think the childhood magic is really the BBC versions for me. Of course, those only went through the Silver Chair... Whereas this new series has the potential to finish them all out. According to rumors I've heard (mostly from NarniaWeb), they may go on and do Silver Chair right after Dawn Treader (I don't think they've confirmed yet... Dawn Treader is definitely in (pre?) production. The idea is to let the child actors do everything at once so they don't get too old and then let them age for the Last Battle... |
The husband and I saw the matinee, we both really enjoyed it, but neither of us had ever read past the first book when we were kids so we had no idea what to expect. I never seem to enjoy movies as much when I've read the books first, and from what others are saying, it sounds like it's better we hadn't read this one before seeing the movie!
