New energy sources?
The big thing now is a or any new energy concept to keep polutents from the air to stop global warming!
Kansas has and is fighting two new coal fired power plants in western Kansas. So, I now find out that my local power company is looking as natural gas which will double the cost, but cleaner. Wind farms in Kansas, but will not have the transmission lines from the coal fired trunk lines so is now cost prohibitive and will not be built. Ethanol is the hot button item as grain is re-growable. But, it is not as polutent free as we were told and cost more to drive per mile. It also has caused the cost of meat, eggs, milk, and bread to go up. Seen the price increases lately at your local grocers? So, coal is cheaper, and can have what is called scrubbers to cut down on emisions, but still are not going to be allowed. Any natural fuel usage is going to be in dire straits as the will run out eventually! Oh, lets go to Nucelar. China Syndrom or Chernoybol in Russia or 10 Mile Island? Where does the used material go that last for thousands of years! So, lets not slow down urban sprawl in building and cutting down trees, or make cars more efficiant in driving? Oh, maybe in 2019 or longer is good enough! I drive an average of 4.5 miles a day, how about you? 1999 Honda with 47,000 miles on it! I do my part and try using solar as much as I can! Just more Federal Govenment ineptitude at work! |
Is geothermal power even a possibility? Or did the writers of Captain Planet have too much imagination and idealism?
|
Now I know that some people say that things get bigger after nuclear accidents, but I think an island growing by seven miles is a bit of a stretch.
Or is this just another Earpism? Quote:

LOL!! |
LOL: Earp means "Three Mile Island" incident that happened in the 1970's, "they" called it the China Syndrome--meaning the nuclear rods got so hot that it would melt a hole all the way to the other side of the Earth, which was euphemistically thought to be China (based on latitudes and longitudes on maps). There is a old movie about it with Jane Fonda. "Three Mile Island" is in Pennsylvania.
Tom, I dunno what to think about the US energy crisis. We have failed to invest for novel energy development in our country. We've been combatting wars for over 40 years without new and improved technologies. Solar, Wind, Hydroelectric and Natural Gas. We need infrastructure re-alignments made. Call is Reaganomics dysregulation? All I got to say, is that it is going to get worse before it gets better. My uncle is part of Williams Corp. in Oklahoma |
There are new technologies for extracting natural gas.
|
My 10-year-old son would call that "farting."

OOPs. okay, 3 mile island!:D
But where are we going with energy???? Geo Thermal is an idea that I forgot and does not seem to be overly popular. Methene gas is being tried at land fills and why not? It is almost a reuseable fuel because of the trash that the average person throws away weekly. While funny to some, I find it pretty serious as my electric, water, sewer, and gas bill continue to grow each year.:( Now, the protected and thought untouchable areas of the Artic and Antartic snow/ice masses are melting. So you coasties beware as you will be underwater when I am long gone!:D |
Does anyone have a passive solar house?
I really looked into it when I was married and talked to a builder. Had some plans for an English Tudor house and changed some of it for passive solar. I got divorced and she took the plans. Now, I keep the blinds open when it is sunny and close them at night when I go to bed. It helps as my last gas bill was $130.00 up from $72.00. Remember, I am gone for 1/2 day at work. |
Gee.
Let's all attack each other for the sake of attacking. Speaking of energy, this is a waste of it. If you don't want to comment on the topic, don't come back to the thread. Thank you. |

If you would like to ask me to give it a break, I would entertain that request. But, coming into a thread and making such statements as the one above, isn't going to do anything. We all know you and Earp are likethis. I doubt you'd be saying much if it had been other members involved. You may not like me coming into a thread and going off topic. But, you telling me to stay on topic or stay out is not your place. You are a mod, not a god. You can moderate my actions. But, you cannot control them. Thank you. |
I don't know you.
What I ssee above is a thread about energy, which was turned into a personal attack apparantely because you don't like the OP. Personal attacks are against the TOS of this board. It was the attacks -- from both sides that caused the editing. By the way, I would edit a thread that way for anyone if I ran across it. You included. |

Now, back on topic. There probably are better ways to harness and create energywith clean energy, but unless big business can make a huge profit on them, you won't see them.

I am curious... Why do you feel the need to follow me into a lot of threads only to show me you are post stalking me? I have not posted much in weeks. Yet, you have gone into all of those threads and made some little comment to show me you're following me. IT'S BEYOND YOUR USUAL LEVEL OF CREEPINESS. Leave me alone. I don't go into your land and mess with you. Why are you so obsessed with me? |

That is not geo-thermal. Geo goes down below the earths crust, very deep. I cannot think of what the name is but, I know what you are refering to!:o The problem with it is it will not work under exteme conditions of weather. That is why there is a back up need with natural gas and air conditioning. You are correct though, whether it be from wind turbines or solar panels, and enough electricity is produced, it can be sold to the local power company. That is to cool as the natural gas prices keep going up!:( |
She's right. Geothermal means energy from the Earth. It can be from the shallow ground to deep within the Earth's crust.
Roses, does he live in Hawaii? That seems to be where most of the geothermal and solar energy units are located. |

Oh, to cool for a print copy!;) |
Let's let this rest.

The name calling and personal attacks on this thread have gone far enough.
