Help...are there any Dream Analysts here? Or those who have read about dreams?
I know that there have been certain topics about "oddest dreams," but there hasn't been one where dreams have been analyzed http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. Has anyone read any dream books or such that can help me?
I just took a nap (after scheduling for Fall classes online...what a pain!), and I had a horrible nightmare!!!! I dreamt that my right foot had been cut off!! So basically, my body became lopsided. Also, since my right foot was chopped off in my dream, I was trying to cross the street in Downtown San Francisco, and didn't make it before the light turned red! So I was always stuck in the same place, with nowhere to go http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. HELP!! What does that mean?!! I can almost bet you that it has something to do w/fearing SOMETHING (advancement, going forward??) in my life (based on my one Psych class and reading about dreams), but I'm not too sure... newbie..
I wish I could help you! My college roommie (for 3 years) was a Psyc & Criminology major! And my lil' sis' majored in Art & Art Therapy.. So they talked about this stuff all the time. I didn't absorb much apparently, but I'll guess... just don't take my word as gospel http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif The cut off foot might mean:
The stoplight changing might mean:
Those are my quasi-educated guesses.. hope they helped some! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ SilverTurtle Phi Beta Fraternity: National Professional Association for the Creative & Performing Arts |
Hi Newbie,
I bought a Dreamer's Dictionary once after having some very odd dreams. Although the book warns that there is a lot more about a dream than just the definition of a few terms, if you can remember vivid actions, colors, smells etc., it can help in an overall annalysis. So here are just a few things I picked out from your dream... Cut - To dream of yourself or anyone else being cut by a sharp edge or object warns that indiscreet gossip or behavior could be very costly. Cool It. Right - A dream in which the right side of anything or a right turn or direction is featured suggests that you are caught between your desires and principles. Usually the best solution is to let your conscience be your guide. Street - Strange streets signify profitable new ventures and associations. Curved or crooked streets indicate travel and surprises. A very long street suggests that you will have to be patient and wait a while before you get whatever you want. I don't personally know what type of street you crossed but since you knew where you were, you must have an idea Color - Bright red means to cool your temper and a deep red forcasts unexpected good news. Signal - Depending on the circumstances, represents the realization of long term dreams or wishes. |
Thanks you guys so much!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Unfortunately--yesterday's dream was one of the most disturbing for me! I counted my blessings when I woke up, realizing that I am healthy and have 2 feet in real life!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
SilverTurtle, I think I understand what my dream means now http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. I have gone through a lot of change this year, and am probably gonna go through some more this summer (will elaborate in my email to you). Thanks so much!! Was this all from memory?? I'm so impressed!! Hootie, thanks so much for checking out the terms in your dream dictionary!! A couple of months ago, when I was in Psych class, we were studying dreams. I became so fascinated that I went to the school library and checked out a HUGE Dream book!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Unfortunately, I had to return the book http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif, but it was amazing reading when I had it! About the street, Hootie, it was a very LONG street and it was at an intersection, too! I felt helpless, b/c I looked at all 4 sides of the street, wondering which was the shortest way, since I couldn't cross in time the first time http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. But I think I know what it's referring to (the long street)--I want to raise my SAT scores, and I think it's telling me that I have to work at it AND be patient!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif oh no, i gtg...Thanks so much girls--I feel so much better! Sometimes dreams are so freaky! [This message has been edited by newbie (edited June 09, 2001).] |
This is quasi-related, so I thought I'd just continue this thread instead of starting a new one.
Do ya'll believe that dreams mean anything? Or are they just an amalgamation of things that happen in our waking hours, thrown together by our brains in a freaky sort of way? I believe that its just a grouping of daily events thrown together. If I stop and think about my dreams, they mostly correlate to things that happened the previous day. I guess I'm sort of a skeptic though http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif [This message has been edited by juniorgrrl (edited June 11, 2001).] |
Does anyone else have the "fish dream" thing in their family? Because when someone in my family has a dream about fishing, someone had better 'fess up, because there's a baby on the way! I was the last to have a fish dream...and it turned out my sister was pregnant. Does the "fish dream" thing happen in other families?
|
Hey guys!
Juniorgrrl, I do believe that dreams are representations of our unconscious's deepest wishes, desires, dreams, etc. I had two semesters of psychology, and maybe I believe this b/c we focused mostly on Freud! But anyway, after we studied dreams, I started to keep a Dream Diary (try it sometime! It's really fun!) and it was AMAZING to analyze my dreams when I had that Dream Book with me. Immediately after I woke up, I would record my dreams down--no matter HOW zany!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif BTW, it's best to record it IMMEDIATELY after you wake up--try not to jump up and turn on the light, etc., otherwise your dreams will escape you! I just put the Dream Diary (really just a notebook), a pen, and a teeny book light (which was attached to the Diary) on my bed, next to my pillow. Anyway, it was amazing to analyze them, b/c I would find out (through the Dream Dictionary) what was bothering me. It was extremely fascinating to find out what was going on in my unconscious. I do think that is a combo of perhaps what has happened that same day, yet, more often times than not, I find that it's something that has bothered me for a couple of days! Sometimes, even, dreams come up from worries that came from years ago! It's extremely fascinating to find out that some things from the past still bother you! And then once you have analyzed, you know that it's bothering you, and you can take stances to stop it! I do have to caution, though, that this Dream Diary/Dictionary process takes a while, but if you have the time, it's SOOO worth it! I stopped doing the analyzing stuff b/c I had to return the Dictionary! (returned it to the library) But I'm probably gonna buy a Dream Book soon http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. AlphaChiGirl, nope I haven't had the fish dream (but nobody in my family has gotten pregnant recently) before! That's awesome though!!! Sometimes dreams are so cool b/c they foreshadow the future in a zany way! Sometimes they don't, but it's awesome that you've had the fish dream!!! |
I have this reoccuring dream every now and then that involves my exboyfriend. In my dream he usually wants to get back together with me, and I usually turn him down. But in most of my dreams he pays me back the money he owes me. It's rather distrubing and annoying because it only harbors some odd feelings for a few days.
I think I know the reasons for those dreams but still...I wish they'd stop. Anyone else have reoccuring dreams like that. |
Awww, I'm really sorry Hootie http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. The thing that I learned about recurring dreams is that you must do something to stop them from occuring yet again! I don't know, maybe you need true closure or something http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif.
Also, there were numerous dream analysts that said that sometimes, the person(s) who is in your dream (your ex in this case) can be actually a symbol for someone else, or some THING, too! Maybe not all the time, but he could represent something else, too. Same thing for a symbol (for example, a chair can represent your best friend, etc.)! Anyway, good luck Hootie!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by newbie (edited June 11, 2001).] |
Oh, Hootie! I just thought of something else! Since you said that he pays you back in a couple of dreams, maybe your unconscious is fulfilling your true wish that he pays you back!!
Dreams are said to fulfill your deepesst inner desires and wishes. Perhaps this is just one outlet for letting out your wish for him to pay you back! Although it is unsettling for you once you wake up, perhaps your unconscious is happy that your wish has been "fulfilled" by the dream? |

I agree that dreams are a combination of daily events and your subconcious. I almost never remember my dreams though. Like, maybe once every 8 months or so I'll remember a snippet, but nothing more. What I do remember is usually quite bizarre, though. And I only remember it for a minute, maybe. I'll go to tell someone about it, and can't remember a thing. Kind of weird. I used to think I didn't dream, but I've been told that everyone dreams, just not everyone remembers it. ------------------ SilverTurtle Phi Beta Fraternity: National Professional Association for the Creative & Performing Arts |
I'm going to speak for Freud on this Question
It's all your Sexual Frustration I'm just joking, just Freud was the first person I thought of, and of course he's say something like the foot no longer there indicates a lack of sex, or something sexual missing in your life - mainly I think it's cause he was a pervert...but I thought I'd throw something like this out there to you guys |
I agree with the Freud theory on dreams -- that they are basically wish fulfillments. I have 3 regular recurring dreams and everytime I have them I know why. I do something in my life right away so I can get over the dream cause it will haunt me for days.
My first recurring dream is that I am in high school and I have a closet full of beautiful new clothes and I can't decide what to wear. I know that I have this dream because I never felt like I had enough of anything when I was growing up and I was the silent middle child who never asked for much. So whenever I have this dream now I just go shopping for new clothes! My second dream is that I have registered for classes that I have not attended and it is the middle of the semester and I have not officially dropped the class. So I am behind in my assignments and cannot catch up and I will fail the course and it is going to mess up my GPA. When I have this dream I know it is time to pay my overdue bills. My third dream is that my Dad who died some years ago is living out west somewhere. I have yet to figure this one out http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif |
Quote:
I often have the class dream. I dream that I just forgot about a class, and I'm way behind. I don't usually have any overdue bills, so I don't know what it means for me. Fear of failure maybe? I also have dreams about my father. Except in my dreams, he's come back somehow. He tries to act like nothing has changed, but I usually end up feeling resentful that he feels he can pop in and out of my life selectively. I think its a way of me dealing with the anger and grief I guess. |
Hey guys!
Silverturtle, yes, you CAN reember your dreams!! Before I took Psych class, I never ever rememberd my dreams. I insisted that I always had happy dreams, too (I just never remembered the nightmares, that's all http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif). Just think 'I WILL REMEMBER MY DREAMS TONIGHT' and you will!! Guaranteed! It might take a while, but soon, you'll almost remember every single detail. But as I said before, you have to record it down IMMEDIATELY after you get up...otherwsie, no matter how hard you try...you WILL forget it. (Try the Dream Diary tip that I gave in my earlier post.) Cory--hahaha. My teacher on the first day of my English and Psych class (English+Psych together...ahh what a hard class that was) said, "Class..this is basically a study of sex and aggression. That's what Freud is all about...sex and aggression. So if you don't like these two things (or are disgusted by these two things), y'all should get out." LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. Sometimes I think Freud was a LONELY, deprived (sexually) man...but then again, he was married...but anyway, everything in psychology...his answer is: it's all a matter of frustration! Frustrated of lack of sex, lack of aggression, LOL. I was ROFLMAO when I read your reply! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif He has the WEIRDEST analyses sometimes. FOr example the Oedipian complex, etc. Strange guy. Brilliant (sometimes), but strange nevertheless! BlueReign--I love your response when you dream about the closet full of beautiful clothes http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. That is, really, the best way to get rid of a recurring dream (I should have more dreams like that, shouldn't I?! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif) I'm really sorry that I don't have a solution to your third dream http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. But I really hope some solution comes around--you deserve it!! Y'all--I was at MSN.com today, and they have a special feature on Dreams...they supposedly give you the meaning behind your dreams..just enter a word or keywords from your dream. http://astrology.msn.com/Thirdeye/Dream/ I tried it...it's OK, I think. some didn't make sense, but some did. Good luck! |

You know the exact same thing happens in my dreams. He is back in the house, in our lives and saying he was sorry for being "away" and my mother is just acting normal and I am mad but I never say anything. Everytime I have this dream I am like messed up for days and I don't know what to do about it.

Hey all you dreamers out there... http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/coffee.gif
(sorry, that smilie doesn't really have anything to do with my post...I just thought he was really cute!) I LOVE talking about this kind of stuff! Check out this book by Sandra Collier called "Wake Up To Your Dreams." I got it through one of those Scholastic Book clubs in like 8th grade, but I still read through it every now and then! The book teaches you how to uniquely decode your dreams for whatever is happening in YOUR life at the time. Really kinda thought provoking! |
Thanks for the tip Orchid!!
Alright guys, I really need help on this dream. In fact, I purposely logged on to GC to post this dream and ask for help, but I got into posting into other topics, LOL... Well, today's dream really bugged the hell out of me!! It was really creepy and scary. Here goes: The whole thing centered around money. In my dream, (and I don't know why I did this) I had carried a red envelope (you know, the Chinese give their children red envelopes filled with money on certain occassions) of 100 dollars to school. THEN, for some reason, this guy who I had had a fling with a long time ago (let's call him Dan) was obsessed with stealing people's money http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif . So, he came up to me, and started shaking out the items from my messenger bag (which is dark blue) looking for my money. He shook out my graphing calculator too, but opted to go for the money. Then I ran away, screaming, b/c he had turned into a maniac..rummaging through my stuff like an obsessed person (he looked possessed)!! (Dan in real life is a really charming, sweet guy who unfrotunately got hooked on drugs.) So throughout the whole dream, my objective was to hide my money in a safe place!! It was a dream full of panic and terror...I was running from place to place, person to person, after always being chased by him! So I decided to run and stuffed the red envelope into my friend Trey's pocket (he's really tall, and for analyzing purposes--he was wearing a black shirt). Anyway, Dan was always on my heel and he was ready to hurt me just for the sake of getting the 100 dollars. EAch time I hid it in someone's pocket, he was in pursuit of me. Finally, I escaped his view, and I, out-of-breath, scared-to-death, told my English teacher about him. And then I told my eng. teacher to keep it for me. Once Dan saw me talking to the teacher, I ran away, took the enveleope, and ran to the computer room, where the comp teacher hid it for me. All day I looked all around me, fearing that he was right behind me. And then his friends (who are unfortunately druggies in real life) came into my class and I was scared to death, b/c they had a murderous look on their faces, and they looked high. In the end, I decided to go home early, so I could escape Dan and his madness. I ran to the pay phones to call my Dad, but he didn't answer. At that same time, I reset my watch (???!!!), and was horrified b/c my normally blue watch had turned a ghastly white?? So I ended up taking the bus home, and ran home, hid my red envelope in the middle of my magazine stack, and vowed never to go back to school!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif HELP!!! What does this mean? Unfrotunatley this was one of the scariest dreams I've had (more so than th foot dream for some reason!), and throughout the whole dream, my heart was racing! Oh yeah, for analyzing purposes--the red envelope was bright red with shiny gold mixed in! I don't understand what this means...but yesterday night, before bed, I was thinking about money, since I've spent a lot recently. Also I don't know why Dan and his friends were in it...they are usually pretty nice to me, though sometimes they can get scary b/c they get all high and drunk. [This message has been edited by newbie (edited June 13, 2001).] |
Oh, also, thanks so much for reading/helping me with that dream. I'm so sorry that it's so long!!
Also, today, i had another dream (but this one I can only remember a few details, so it's gonna be short http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif). My sister was driving my Dad to the airport, and my dad was praising her, saying how great she is, how smart she is, etc. Which is kinda funny b/c lately, in real life, he has been criticizing her. So what does THIS dream mean, too? Thanks so much guys...I promise, I WILL get a dream dictionary/book of my own soon!! |
Thanks juniorgrrl and newbie. I spoke with my 2 sisters and they have the same dream about my Dad that I have. maybe together we can come up with a solution.
|
BlueReign, that's amazing that your sisters have the same dream, too! I really hope that you and your sisters can decipher the meaning, soon!!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

I can't remember the details, but last night I dreamed about Gervase from Survivor I, sex, and the Death Squad.
I am not kidding. |
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with weird recurring dreams. My most disturbing one involves being someplace that I can tell is haunted. I know it is haunted because of the bad smell the place has. I can't describe it, but if I ever smelled it in real life, I would KNOW it (and probably run!!)
My anxiety dream is a variation of the missed class dream. In it, I am in the musical "Oklahoma" and we are about to open. We have no costumes, nobody know their lines or any of the songs. I actually was in "Oklahoma" and it was a great production with none of the problems I dream about. |
