Halter Tops: Love em or Hate em?
Hey everyone, since it's getting to be so hot outside, I'm just wondering what the general consensus is about halter tops. This question is open to guys & girls...what do you think? Are they cute or trashy? I think I'll wait & give my personal opinion until I hear what some of ya'll have to say http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I like halter tops. I think some people shouldn't wear them. If your belly is too big- sometimes i don't wear one if my belly looks big- don't wear one. I think people should either not wear a bra with them or wear a bra that fits the style of the halter because it looks trashy when bra straps hang out.
|
I agree with Lana. Also, larger chested women in halter tops can be a bad thing as well. They just don't fit as well/look trashy. I think everyone needs to use their best judgement. I can'T wear them cause they make me look slutty. But some women look great in them. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

This drives me absolutely, positively insane. Either wear a strapless or T-back or get the kind of tank that has a built-in bra. If you're wearing the spaghetti strap kind and you look really horrible without the support bra, here's a hint: you probably shouldn't be wearing the strappy top in the first place. I have just little enough thar I can get away without a bra, but (here's another hint) I always make sure I'm covered on the bottom. Everything hanging out from both ends is ho-like. |
On the right person, halter tops are adorable. However, they are similar to stretch pants in that they are a privilege, not a right! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hmmm . .. how to express my appreciation . . . well, if a girl looks good in a halter top I break out in a cold sweat. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Good general clothing rule: Show skin on top or skin on the bottom, but never at the same time.

As long as I'm all tucked in nice I don't mind them. And "Show skin on top or skin on the bottom, but never at the same time." what a fabulous rule. I've been so careful since I read this to wear pants with my tanks/halters!

I'm down in Louisiana. It gets hot here. Correction, it gets DAMN hot. So lots of people wear halter tops. However, as Tracy stated - they are a privilige, NOT a right. Some people down here feel that just because they live in the south, they need to look like Daisy Duke - WRONG. With nice khaki shorts, a cute halter looks nice. But with ass-shorts, it looks trashy.
Personally, I don't own any halter tops. I do, though, have two dresses with halter tops to them. But the dresses hit at the knee. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I like to leave things up to the imagination |

I've been looking for one for awhile that has the built-in bra, because I REALLY hate strapless bras! They always fall! I think Abercrombie made some like that at one point but I just don't know where to find them!
After all, I need one to wear with my khaki shorts and stretch pants lol. |

Victorias Secret and Newport both make halters with built in bras. |
Last I checked, Express and American Eagle also made halters with built-in bras. However, they are the "shelf-bras" that come in baithing suits. Not enough support for me...I've just resigned myself to wearing strapless bras and getting used to them. They're not so bad if they fit correctly.

See but just because you are small chested does not necessarily mean that you shouldn't wear a bra with halter/tank tops.
I know some smaller women who need a bra just as badly as I do- don't let em sag, and no it's really not cute that I can see your whole chest!!!! What was the word? Classy? Yes class is important y'all! |

Strapless bras are great! You just have to find the right one. I really like Olga ones or Maidenform ones. I think halters are nice, just as long as they're worn with class http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. |
NEVER - EVER - EVER - NEVER TO CHURCH!
I know God doesn't care what you wear, BUT OTHER PEOPLE DO!!! hahaha! My hubby and I attended Mass with his parents this weekend (we aren't Catholic, but we go to church with them when we're there, and vice versa)....ANYWAYS....this woman who was quite large - especially on top -- chose to wear a bright pink one, with bright pink floweredy shorts! AND NO BRA - none! She was a 42 D if I've ever seen one (I'm not quite that large, but SHE sure was)! |
I know this isn't exactly on the subject, but it was brought up so I thought I'd ask anyway! I am never comfortable in a strapless bra...has anyone (especially you girls that are larger up top!!) found one that you absolutely love?? I've been meaning to try the Victoria's Secret one (the one with the removable straps that can do like 5 different styles). Do any of y'all have that one and like it?

I have that Victorias Secret bra - its the body by victoria strapless. In my case, the only problem is that if I get a 34C, my normal size, and take out the extra padding, its WAY too big, so I have to buy that particular bra a size smaller.
|
I don't know what it's called. I just remember seeing commercials for a Victoria's Secret bra on which you can adjust the straps to a halter style, crossed in the back, or just take them off.
|
I think it's called the Victoria's Secret body by victoria convertible bra "one bra to wear five ways" or something like that. ive been in their website way too often, thats why i know lol.
i dont have the body by victoria one, but i do have 2 vickys secret convertible bras. they don't have extra padding so i just bought them in my normal bra size. basically i cant live w/o them, coz this summer ive been wearing a lot of tanks and halters. although my bras are the 5-way convertible one i only wear them either 2 strap or strapless...too much fiddling if i try to hook it up halter style. |
Just an FYI:
Victoria's Secret is having its semi-annual sale right now! (At least around here http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ) I'm sooooo tempted to go and get a half-price Miracle Bra with the water in it. Those things are cool! |
halter tops are cute..tube tops are trashy :D
im too busty to wear either one - but on the right girl, halter tops, when worn at an appropriate time, are cute! |
I think it depends entirely on the person and their body shape/size. Let's practice some common sense people!
|
I personally love halter tops but it can depend on the top. Some look great and others just look well yucky :) so it all depends.
Nichole |
I like 'em! I actually just bought on of the AE shelf-bra ones the other day.
|
I haven't worn a halter top since I was ten. I think that I would look very different in one now. :p
|
i l ove halter tops, i think they are cute, unfortunetly where i live the weather is always about subzero so never get to wear them :(
|
There's been some great advice about remembering your own body type when deciding how small the clothing can be, and what to wear it with so you don't look trashy. I just remember that those girls (like the one girl at the bar wearing a skimpy little halter, tight tight booty shorts, and flip flops) attract loser, trashy guys that I want nothing to do with. They may get more attention, but it is definitely not the kind of attention I want. I'd rather look classy and not be bothered by that kind of guy. I prefer a classier guy.

Maybe we should have a sequal to the "What do you look like?" thread. "What do you look like in a halter top?"

I love halter tops, but their are some ladies who might want to rethink their wardrobe choices! But, if you are a bigger chested girl (like me) Gap makes a wonderful halter top with a shelf bra, and straps thick enough to hide either a strapless bra, or a convertible halter style bra underneath. |
one more thing - please dont wear a halter top and have big bra straps hanging out - ugh!!!
|
I have several commetns on halter tops--
1. They look better on younger girls, i.e., high school and first two years of college, and less so as you get older. A woman in her upper 20s in a tight-halter looks like she wishes she were somewhere on spring break. 2. I think the syle is passe' 3. My main complaint now is that they purposefully cut the tops so short, that its difficult to find something you don't have to keep tugging down. I don't mind a halter if that what I want, but everything seems "halterish". |
