Bhutto Murdered
RAWALPINDI, Pakistan - Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide attack that also killed at least 20 others at a campaign rally, aides said.
"The surgeons confirmed that she has been martyred," Bhutto's lawyer Babar Awan said. A party security adviser said Bhutto was shot in neck and chest as she got into her vehicle to leave the rally in Rawalpindi near the capital Islamabad. A gunman then blew himself up. "At 6:16 p.m. she expired," said Wasif Ali Khan, a member of Bhutto's party who was at Rawalpindi General Hospital where she was taken after the attack. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071227/...re_as/pakistan |
I have a feeling that this is going to backfire on the Islamists. She was a very corrupt individual as it was, but as a symbol, she and her assassination will probably be more unstoppable.

I was not really shocked to read this. I agree with Kevin.
It made me think of the movie Hitman that I just saw. Maybe that was her body double. Movies bring out the conspiracy theorist in me. |
I don't think she deserved to be assasinated... R.I.P
|
I am so blown. Sad.
|
Wow.
Just wow. I mean, part of me isn't surprised, but the other part is just shocked that it came down to this. I didn't know a lot about her, but she at least talked a good game about getting Pakistan back under control (of course, she meant her/her party's control) But just wow. |
I almost threw up when I read the headline. Travesty.
|
I saw it on my yahoo page and stared at it for a while not sure I was reading it correctly. Wow. Just wow.
It's sad. It truly is sad. |

I saw this movie last night (I think it was called Shooter). It was a good movie, but the government really really was effing this guy (Marc Walhberg:D) over, for something they asked him to do. /end jack |
I am definitely really saddened by this, as well. It's horrible.
|
Good bad or indifferent, we must remember, they have Nuke capacity!
Whats his face may have stepped down from the military to run a civilian president country, I am sure he still has many frieneds who still back him! This may back fire on someone! Now I guess we can all sit back and see what the fall out will be. |
As much as it wasn't a surprise, I'm still in shock. Any public individual is at risk as long as the extremists are out there.
I always admired her work and felt she was a strong individual. The corruption that she was accused of was alleged (and show me a politician that is not corrupt). I am mourning her loss. |

The ability for Pakistan to have nuclear capabilities is scary considering this is a country on the brink of a civil war. I don't think that we will be able to sit back and see what happens though. If these nukes get into the wrong hands there could a very pissed off neighbor (India), who also has nuclear weapons, that might want to intervene |

That was a good movie. |
I was pretty depressed when I heard the news from my sister. It made me wonder if it was inevitable- she had to choose between staying in exile and not being able to pursue her mission, or putting herself out there and risking her life.
Although evil extinguished her life, nothing will extinguish the work and progress she has made for thousands, if not millions, in this world. Ironically, the notariety of Bhotto's death has raised her cause to the forefront. More people may now know of her because of the assassination, perhaps putting her in the "martyr" realm. |
This is beyond sad and disappointing. I am FURIOUS. OUTRAGED. She was a remarkable woman. She did NOT deserve to be murdered.
|
No surprise here. She barely escaped a suicide bombing in October.
NBC had some unaired parts on Nightly tonight of an Bhutto interview by Ann Curry not long ago in which they talked about potential attempts on her life. In retrospect, her comments are chilling. |
So sad -- she was such an amazing woman...

From the "Ain't this some bulls**t" Files
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Benazir Bhutto died as a result of a fractured skull after hitting her head on part of her car's sun roof, not as a result of a bullet or bomb shrapnel, a spokesman for Pakistan's Interior Ministry said Friday.
Nothing entered the opposition leader's head, said spokesman Brigadier Javed Iqbal Cheema. At a news conference, Cheema showed images of Bhutto in a car, standing up through an open sunroof, looking out at the crowd as she was about to be driven away. When the gunshots rang out and the explosion occurred, Bhutto "fell down or perhaps ducked" and apparently hit her head on a lever, Cheema said, adding that the lever was stained with blood. Earlier, the ministry said in a report carried by the state-run news agency Associated Press of Pakistan that she was killed by shrapnel from the suicide bomb that was detonated as she stood up through the sun roof while being driven away from a political rally. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapc...day/index.html |
Remember the Iraqi spin doctor who was on the air before Saddam was taken out? I can't remember his name, but it looks like he got a new job...
I was always waiting for this "There are no American's in Iraq" *US Soldier drives through the background yelling "Hi Mom" * |
