First Concerts...

Hey People...

I was wondering, what was yall's first concert experince like??

Mine was New Kids on The Block.. I was 8, it was in 1990. I was scared when the lights went out and i cried cause the music was to lound...

Now, I'm a pro at it. I am constanly going to concerts..

TigerGirl 04-30-2001 02:20 PM

Hey!!!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who saw NKOTB for their first concert. I saw them in 1990 and I think I was 9 years old.

shopgirl 04-30-2001 02:33 PM

I was 20 when I went to my first real concert!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gifI went to the Jane's Addiction concert when they got back together in 1997 for a reunion type of tour. It was pretty good, BUT the people I went with wanted to be in the front and THAT was horrifying. I spent most of the time trying not to get trampled on!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif

I too was a huge NKOTB fan. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif My entire group of friends were too. We'd watch their concerts on video ALL OF THE TIME!!! It was like a 4-5 month addiction!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif I lived on Okinawa at the time, so there were no NKOTB concerts for me to go to and going to Tokyo was out of the question!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

geez---mine was NKOTB too! I'm pretty sure . . . I know I saw Alabama when I was young--but I am almost positive that NKOTB were my first (my parents FORCED me to go to the Alabama concert--I like them now, but not when I was little).

sigmagrrl 04-30-2001 03:12 PM

OK, if you want to be technical, the FIRST concert I went to was when I was about 12. The family went to see Luther Vandross. But the first concert I went to by myself was Meat Puppets and Stone Temple Pilots at Beacon Theater in NYC in August 1994! AWESOME CONCERT!!!

bucutie02 04-30-2001 04:20 PM

Okay so my first concert was when I went to see Diana Ross this past February. I am 20 by the way! Its not like im a hard core fan of hers, but my parents wanted to go see her and since it was on their anniversary, we all went. It was pretty cool!

juniorgrrl 04-30-2001 04:51 PM

The first "real" concert I went to (other than at festivals) was Jimmy Buffett in December 1999.

Amazing. Simply amazing. So wonderful that I've considered going to concert locations nowhere near me. And bringing my mom (I've converted her over to the Parrothead side).

prdlocal 04-30-2001 04:56 PM

Ohmigosh! So, okay... don't laugh... my first concert was Petra (some obscure Christian rock band)... okay I said it. But I don't consider that my first REAL concert, which I would have to say was Tom Petty, woohoo!

Pretty funny, but my first concert was AC/DC in '93. We got free tickets from my friends step dad. It was a strange concert to be at for a 13 year old!!!! Hehe. But great fun. I think I was introduced to fuzzy navels there, but that's another story

I am very proud to admit that my first concert ever was....*drumroll please*

MENUDO in 1984. I think I was 5 years old and very much in love with Ricky Martin when he was only 12 years old. Menudo came back a year later and I went then too.

I remember the NKOTB concerts in Hawaii quite fondly...I was about 11 I think when they came down.

And then NSYNC came down for the Millenium concerts...I was 20. I was fortunate to score 4th row seats.

As you all can see..I'm quite a fan of boy bands.

My first concert was Shaun Cassidy in 1979. I was 12, my mom took me and I was sporting a brand spanky new satin baseball jacket purchased for the monumental occasion http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif

And I can just about guarantee that most of you are like "Who the he** is Shaun Cassidy" haha

OK, I am just OLD. ha ha

My first concert was in 1978, I was 9. It was Blondie's Heart of Glass tour at the Aladdin Theatre of the Performing Arts in Las Vegas. My teenaged cousins were going and my 12 year old cousin and I wanted to go so badly that they finally relented and took us with them.

Killarney Rose- I AM SO JEALOUS. I LOVED SHAUN CASSIDY!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Da Do run run, Morning Girl, all of it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I've been to tons of concerts since my debut at 9. Dave Matthews (9 10 and 11th times in May!), Depeche Mode(7 times), Violent Femmes (4X) and Oingo Boingo (3X) MANY times. Van Halen's 1984 tour. Tears for Fears. Bowie. Smashing Pumpkins. Jane's Addiction. Nirvana. Bon Jovi just last weekend. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Many more.

Add another one to the bandwagon:
NKOTB January 8 or 9th, 1990 at (what used to be) the cap center. I remember it was snowing and traffic was SOOOOO bad and my mom and i had to scream at each other the whole way home b/c it was SOOO loud. I think I was in 6th Grade. My first real concert was Soul Asylum, Screaming Trees, and Sound Garden the summer after eight grade. I remember some drunk guy bumped into me and spilled beer all down the front of my shirt, and I got in some much trouble when i got home, cause I reeked of beer and My mom swore up and down that I had been drinking. And to make it worse the shirt was silk (cause this was in the middle of that silk shirt phase we all went through) But, I don't know what I was thinking wearing a silk shirt to a concert. If anyone wants a good laugh, it was a silk purple tank top and I wore it with bright yellow shorts. Lord, the thing we used to wear in the name of fashion. umm umm um! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

It was awesome! My first concert was The Cranberries about five years back...sure it was scary for me, being that it was so LOUD I felt that my eardrums were gonna burst! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif Plus a mosh pit was forming...and being a scared 11 or 12 year-old (can't remember), I'm sure my eyes were looking like this: http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif! But I had tons of fun! I love The Cranberries--too bad it seems like they're invisible now or something? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif

I grew upin the middle of nowhere, and the nearest big town was about 8 hours away. So I was in college before I wentt o my first concert. It was Restless Heart. I was a freshman in college. Then I have been to the Cranberries, Rush, Prince, Salt and Peppa, George Strait, Brooks and Dunn, and Robert Earl Keen (about 10 times, including last saturday. It was awesome.) Next friday I am going Rekless Kelly in Gruene. (This tiny town outside of New Braunfels, in the oldest dancehall in Texas. Really cool. Anyway, I am more for the smaller intimate type show, vs.the large concert. I am also way into the local music scene. Being this close to Austin (the live music capital of the world) we get all kinds of acts here too. Cool for me!

Lots-a-Heart 05-01-2001 12:48 AM

My 1st rock concert was a Michael Jackson concert back in 1984. I was 6 and slept through the whole thing. LOL. And like many of you I went to the NKOTB concert back in 1990, I couldn't talk for a week http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.

I went to Lollapalooza '96. It was about a month after I got my first car, and I had to drive to Indianapolis for the first time. My buddy and I had a blast. We saw the Ramones, Psychotica, Rancid, Metallica, and Waylon Jennings. Since then, I've been to 2 more festivals, X-Fest, where I've seen The Verve Pipe (sucked), STP, Everclear, Kottonmouth Kings, Powerman 5000, Wheatus, Kid Rock, and a few other bands I can't remember. I went and Saw Nine Inch Nails with A Perfect Cirlce last spring, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers with Foo Fighters too. My first concert would have been Bush, No Doubt, and Goo Goo Dolls, but I broke my leg 2 weeks before the concert in '96 and had to sell my ticket.

amycat-- I LOVE violent femmes. They are by far the best concert I've even been to... Oh wow! I can't even explain how much I love their concerts. I truly believe that I can only get into my "groove" at certain concerts, and VF's are definately on the top of that list!

Anybody else dig Violent Femmes? Where has everybody seen them (as they are from my wonderful state of WI!)?

I LOVE the Violet Femmes! I have been a huge fan since I was 13!!! Ah, those were the days! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

P.S. I'm a big music buff. I love all types of music, so I have an eclectic collection of c.d.'s. I just wanted to note that since I'm always saying how much I love such and such a band. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

My first semi-concert was Carman. I was like 10 I think. Then my First real concert was The Edge Christmas Concert my senior year. It was Blink-182, Bush, Bowling for Soup, and one other band I can't remember. Then last summer my mom took me to The Woodlands near Houston to see Britney Spears. It was soo much fun! It made me so happy because it was the last thing we did together before I left for school. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I've also been to a few concerts (but like Sarah, hindered since I lived in NS up till 2 years ago!):Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Barenaked Ladies, Rolling Rock Town Festival (starring Red Hot Chili Peppers), Edgefest, Boyz II Men and Luther Vandross, and I'm going to see Aerosmith again in Sept in Dallas...my sweetie's taking me! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

My first concert was Bon Jovi. And ironically, I am going to see them again this summer! Oh I love Jon Bon Jovi http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Someone asked about Violent Femmes...they played at my university when I was a senior, and they were terrible...drunker than I don't know what.

CRMSNTiDEGRL717 05-03-2001 04:41 PM

The first concert i went to was the presidents of the united states of america when i was in 8th grade. since then i have been to sooooo many including: bush, soul asylum, 3 doors down, hootie and the blowfish, oleander, our lady peace, train, vertical horizon, kid rock, limp bizkit, 311 and the charlie daniels band!! woo hoo

Zeta_Girl 05-04-2001 12:15 AM

hey..my first concert was new kids on th block too! I can't believe how many people was their first concert too. and all my friends laugh at me now when I say that was my first concert! since then I have went to limp bizkit ( seen them twice), method man, red man, Trisha year wood, george jones, travis tritt, Blink 182, juvenile (but he never played b/c it was this spring break at club lavela in pcb, and a huge riot broke out and the concert got shut down. I was so mad but we all got refunds)

my favorite concert I've ever been to was the napster free tour that limp bizkit put on. me and about 9 of my friends had to camp out on the street in atlanta georgia, it was so great there were lots of people out camping too, it was like a huge street party! we stayed out there from 10:30 at night to about 11:00 the next morning. we didn't sleep at all and the concert was that night at 7:00. after we finally got the tickets we went home to sleep for a few hours to get ready for the concert! we even brushed our teeth in the street! it was something I'll never forget so many crazy things happened I couldn't even tell everything to you guys! You just should have been there!!!!! It was way worth it!!!!
