What brings you to GC this Christmas?

I'm at my parents waiting for everyone else to arrive. I'm hungry and needed to keep myself occupied.

I am anxious to hear of my niece's Alternative Winter Break. She and her group from Ohio State went to New Orleans to help build a house that was hit by Katrina.

LOL, we were just saying how much it stinks for everyone who doesn't celebrate today, my brother tried in vain to pick up some Starbucks for us on his way over after he went to church... no dice! And man, I was craving a mocha... Once the presents are open, frankly, I'm ready for the world to switch back to "normal".

Thetagirl218 12-25-2007 05:42 PM

I am loading tons of CDs into iTunes so I can put them in my new iPod Nano that I got this morning! I know, I am just know getting into the modern age!

I am also chatting with my sisters online! :)

...but i have done SOME packing.

justabeachbrat 12-26-2007 12:08 AM

This is ending a very quiet Christmas.
I already posted elsewhere about being alone this holiday because my family is in the midst of a melt down, there was no sane direction to head, other than to Wyoming, which was beyond my student budget.
But I am healthy and reasonably sane and making a second go at grad school after the first of the year.
Dinner? I thought finding a turkey sandwich to go would be easy to find at few restaurants open. Nope. they wanted me to buy a full dinner and I wasn't that hungry. Instead, I took off driving, passed a nearly full pizza parlor and ordered a small pizza, for home. Actually was a treat, I've been watching what I eat, resulting in me not looking like a blimp anymore.
Thanksgiving, my brother and I helped serve food at a shelter, so tonight, at least I'm indoors, warm, have my cat curled up in my lap, and not out on the streets, like some people.

Benzgirl 12-26-2007 12:20 AM

Ate way too much. Just got back from a moonlight walk with my brother and niece. My parents are waking me early to go to the gym with the. It's always nice to run into people you went to high school with when you just rolled out of bed.

Christmas Happy and Sad.

I am happy because this evening, on Christmas, my parents celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary. They were married at 7:00 pm on Christmas in 1952. I am so very grateful that I had the opportunity to celebrate their anniversary this evening :)

I am sad because yesterday, Christmas Eve, we buried my best friend's little brother Zach. He was 39 and passed away last Monday, we think from a heart attack. He leaves behind two young children, Riley and Landon 8 and 6 years old. Zach, his sister Rebecca and I all went to University together at Southwest Texas State University and he used to get after me all the time to get after my homework and study hard. I miss him very much.

I am glad for all of the GCers that I have gotten to know this last year and it has made an impact on me how important it is to tell people that I know and love how important they are to me. You are all important to me and I am thankful for all of you.

Jill1228 12-26-2007 12:29 AM

icelandelf, I am sorry for your loss

I am here because DH and his son are watching a movie I am not interested in watching

Benzgirl 12-26-2007 12:34 AM

IcelandElf,
Please take comfort in knowing that many of your friends and family (near and extended) are thinking of you. It is so hard when someone so young is taken from us. My heart goes out to you.

Unregistered- 12-26-2007 04:00 AM

Wow...away from GC for one whole day!

Christmas is just about over for the rest of ya'll and we're just winding things down over here.

Slept in till about 11 and the boy already had the coffee ready. Opened presents and even had to go do a scavenger hunt to get to the bling. First Christmas together went great!

Lunch at my parents' house then went to the beach with his 2 1/2 year old. (It was 80 degrees and sunny today, my condolences to those freezing their butts off)

Now it's time to sleep because dangit...it's back to work tomorrow.

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!

Congratulations to your parents, iceland, and so very, very sorry about the loss of your best friend's brother and for his family. There's never an easy time of year to go through that, but sheesh, on Christmas Eve?!?! That's the worst. My heart breaks for those young kids...

There was a Chinese food place open here, and we have On Demand, so I would have been happy with some General Tso's and a movie marathon. Having Chosen People as friends growing up was awesome, especially as a teenager because they'd help me escape family events on Christian holidays.

Thank you!! He is just the most beautiful child in the entire world....excluding all of the GC'ers children, of course. Baby Michael arrrived via C-Section Thursday, December 20th. We got to take him home on Christmas Eve, and we're just so thrilled and besotted. BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!! :)

nikki1920 12-26-2007 06:30 PM

WHAT A GIFT!!!!! Congrats!!!! Take lots of pictures because they grow and change SO very fast... :)

Love,
mom of 9 year old who is still in disbelief that child is almost as tall as her mom.

Tom Earp 12-26-2007 06:34 PM

Ah, the main thing about is not being alone, but spending time with friends when you have no family!

Spending time this time of year is very important for each of us.

One can only be pleased that you are not alone but with others who care for you and you them.

Bless all who have time to spend with Family or Friends! Feel very lucky. You could have no one!

I was away for seven days visiting the son in NYC.

Flew home on Christmas Day into the worst Christmas Day snowstorm in Denver recorded history.

Thankfully, it wasn't really that bad.
