Other than being sick, what makes you want to call in sick to work?
When you're not sick, what makes you want to call in sick? Is it the people at your job? The atmosphere? The work load? Is it your boss? Is it just one person that gets on your last nerve when you see him/her coming your way? What is it that you think about and dread that will make you say "I might have to call in sick today.":o:D

For me, it isn't work at all..it's just being tired and needing some time for "me", to rejuvenate. Being a single mom, working full time, hauling kids to activities every night of the week.. I'm tired sometimes. Every now and then, I just need a day to read, watch movies, take a long, hot, bubbly bath and take care of my psyche :)

The sister of the owners. She comes in 2 days a week, disrupts our lives and has the title of Sr. VP.
She only works because she wanted to secure a high-level spot in the company for her son. |
If I'm not really sick, then it's because I also am just TIRED.

If its raining or snowing.

I have requested days off ahead of time because of a convention or another activity going on.
Once I called in sick because I was too depressed due to handling other issues in my life. I was a teaching assistant- not exactly a paid job. Otherwise, when I call in sick, I truly am sick. I have called in sick twice this year at work. Once I had the flu, the other time I had a severe cold. Let's just say that things are MUCH better now than what they were 10 years ago. |
Mostly because I need a mental day. I try hard not to abuse the leave I have accrued so far (I use most of it when my daughter gets sick or has a day off and school is closed). But usually, I am tired and need a day to reset.
|
I've been at my current job for 2 1/2 years, and I've called in twice: once when I was actually sick, and the other time was when my dad broke his leg in a motorcycle accident and I stayed with him at the hospital until 3AM.

Anal Glaucoma is always a good reason to call in....

I called in earlier this week as a cold was starting to come on, but mostly I wanted to spend time with J before he left to travel with his family for the holidays and I was just tired and wanted to lay on the couch all day. Mental days are definitely occasionally needed. I never take off from my PT job for that though since I only get paid if I work (hourly job) so if I'm sick I will, but that's it. |

Hilarous!!! Love it!!!

My husband and I both "fell ill" at work (different jobs) at the same day and time so we could meet up and go see the first "Lord of the Rings" movie the day it came out and just did the same thing for the Simpsons movie this summer... :)
LOL at anal glaucoma... have to remember that one. |

trifling is having your boss also calling in s(l)ick and then running into them at the Lord of the Rings movie....heh |
My first year teaching I only had 1 sick day for every month I worked. And I took every single one of them.
Now, into year 5, unless I'm sick I take off at least once or twice a year just for a me day. Or if it's been a reallly bad day, I take the next day off. |
I usually just take off if i'm sick... but I'm sick a lot, so that happens a lot.
Or... when I'm really hungover.... I've taken off when I've wanted to go upstate to visit my sorority too :p |
I've never actually called out sick when I am sick - if I'm contagious or would be disruptive to co-workers (sniffling, sneezing) then I just work from home.
But, my fiance and I occasionally call out sick together to spend the day downtown, going to a movie, or just hanging out at home. Its nice to have those little "us" days. :) |
I call in sick to spend an extra day with my boyfriend who lives in another city
|
working with kids, I find pink eye is a good way to get out of work. I open my sick, so if I want a day off, I either have to plan it in advance( so someone can open the school and cover my class) or I have to go in sick, wait till another teacher gets there before going back home
|
Once I won tickes to a Jay-Z concert, so I called off sick.:D

I was once tempted to call in sick to work when the night before I went to the emergency room with chest pains. Turns out they were just spasms- EKG said everything was normal. Tempting to skip work, but decided to go.
Also tempted to call in the day after my apartment flooded. I only had 5 hours of sleep and the carpet was still damp. But I went to work and told people why I was more irritable than usual. People said "you're always in a good mood", and nothing happened that made me overreact, but I was still quite sleepy and upset that day. But this past Wednesday I just could not have made it. It was not just the sneezing, fevers, and body aches. I was actually quite dizzy for most of the day. |
Overbookings of our crazy and really dumb patients.
We had a parent come in yesterday who thought it was a good idea to put red bull on their 6 month old's pacifier!!!!!! Why would anyone do that?!?!?! |
Called in sick, I heard waves were really great, and they were. But the weather was changing, and I developed a chill driving home, long hair takes a long time to dry and then caught a really bad cold. I felt guilty and worked sick.
|
Although I've only actually been sick one time this year, I have called in "sick" just for mental health purposes. I just needed a break from my team and my manager.
At a past job that involved customer service, I'd take a "mental health" day at least 1x a month. It was just that bad. |
I don't think this thread is about denial; it's celebrating the funny reasons people make up so they don't have to go to work. Come on, you know you have a reason why you didn't want to go to work...
|
Kathy, you're cute, ignore her, she's back to her trolling ways, I guess she misses the attention, let's keep starving her...
|
lolz. I think this thread needs a cat in it, right about now.

I know you are a "real boy". And, if you go away, I won't be mean to you because I won't have to tell you to go away.
How old are you anyways? My guess is 12 or 13. Am I close? |

Find me a 32-year-old guy that calls himself a "boy". How empty IS your life? And, again, I'm done with you. Troll along! |

I usually don't call in sick, but when it's a rainy cold morning, then I get so tempted to. That's such good sleeping weather.

I've called in sick when I was just SO BORED with my job, I couldn't stand the thought of going in and sitting at that desk for nine hours. I only did this once and felt kind of guilty about it. Also, I once had a reaction to a medication and my hands swelled up so much I couldn't even brush my own teeth. So I wouldn't have been able to answer the phone, type, file, etc. so it was pointless. My boss thought it was funny and called me "large hands."

I came in late today because I just couldn't wake up. Now that I am here, I should have stayed my tail at home.
|
I don't call in sick unless I'm REALLY very sick.
It costs American businesses huge amounts of money. |
