Childhood Nicknames
Hi Everyone!
I was just curious to see if anyone had a really funny or interesting nickname while growing up. I guess I'll start it off, but mine isn't very interesting. My best friend in elementary school was named Erica, and my name is Erin. We were always together, so people just started calling us both "Er" heads (pronounced airheads). They never said it to be mean, so it was just kinda funny. I hope everyone else has better ones than mine! Erin http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Rise and shine and become a Kappa Gamma! |
this isn't really from childhood, but when i was 16 i took a job as a valet, and everyone there called me Bad A$$ Billy or Big Billy Bad A$$
|
for one reason or another, my parents & their friends though I was a lil too "grown" for my own good when I was little (7). Maybe it was because the next youngest of my parent's friends' children was 15, maybe it was because I was an only child, maybe becasue I was the bomb like that http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif I don't know. ANYWHO, they started calling me "Ms. Kelli" and to this day, they STILL call me that. I kinda like it. It fits http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Luckily I'm not easily embarassed http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
First, when I was little my mother used to call me her little Love Bug. I don't know why, but she did. Funny thing is, my sophomore year of college she came back from Saint Louis with a t-shirt that showed a volkswagon beetle (car). It was red with hearts and it looked like a lady bug (MY FAVORITE). Under it it said LOVE BUG! How cute huh?!?! The second one isn't really a nick name, but something my Grandma calls me. My full name is Amy Michelle. Well when I was little I had a hard time talking and so I used to walk around telling everyone my name was Amy Myshelf. My Grandma got a kick out of it and still calls me Amy Myshelf to this day! LOL. Gotta love Grandmas! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif ------------------ What do you get when you cross and Alpha Omicron Pi and a Sigma Phi Epsilon? A beautiful Chi Omega!!! |
well when i was really little, and by this i mean maybe like 2, people would ask me my name. I dont know if it was that i couldnt pronounce it or what, but i would say "me....me". Everyone would just laugh and say that it was cute, but later on, it just caught on to "mimi". The only people that call me that are my parents. My brother doesnt even call me that since he is younger and wasnt there when it was all new and fun.
I think its kind of funny because i know people that call their grandmothers "mimi", so everytime i hear that in public i have to refrain myself from turning around because i know it cant possibly be me they are calling. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
For some reason when I was little my aunt called me BEAN. Why? I don't know....and would you believe that she still calls me that to this day and I am 23 years old.................((sigh))

My mom used to call me a few different names: Grace, Lulabelle, or Amy Lou...actually she still calls me these names! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
|
My middle name is Rebecca and my parents ALWAYS called me Becca or Becky. My mom still calls me Becca to this day. She rarely calls me by my real name.
My older brother called me Boodge. Don't ask me why or where it came from. I have NO clue. It was a really annoying nickname, but I guess it's better than the 'butthead' nickname he's come up with for me in my later years http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif . Leslie |
Before I was born, my father's cousin would always ask my mother, "How's little Honey doing"? So to this day (I'm 27) people still call me Honey. For some strange reason I still prefer my family to call me that than my real name ( DaVanda).

Alright, I have to share some of my almost insane nicknames here. My real name is Melinda and I go by Mindy. That will help with some of them. My Mom used to call me Little Miss Muffett. My Dad, who is very silly sometimes, called me various things such as jellybean and rabbit head. I know he had more, but I can't think of them now. My cousin, who is more like a brother used to call me skinny b/c I was like a little skeleton until almost my senior year of high school. He then moved on to calling me Scrunt, why? I don't know. My Aunt and Godmother calls me Mincoda. Codachrome, Coda and any other variation she can come up with on this. Some of my other uncles call me Minolta and Minerva. Those are just my family. I can't even remember all the stupid names that were made up for me in high school by my friends. We used to do that kind of stuff all the time. Whenever you would do or say something stupid or funny, you could be sure you were getting a nickname to make you remember it for a while. It was all in good fun, though. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

I am the queen of nicknames...for other people that is!! My only nickname from my father is "Kiddo" which I have always and forever been called by him. I would probably fall over if he ever called me my real name. (Which by the way he MISSPELLED in the family Bible...haahaahaa -- that is a funny story too!)
Anyway, my nieces are Emma, Katie, and Aly -- but I call them Angel, Lil'bear, and Alyphant. When I sometimes do say "Emma" she gets all huffy and says "NO! I'm your an"shell" -- she can't say her "g's" yet. My brother has been RB for the longest time (which, as I explained in another thread, stands for Rat Ba$t@rd). My best friend had the funniest nickname in school - she was a cheerleader and they called her "Boom Boom" - now since you guys can't see her, she has rather large breasts on a very petite body. So we're out with these guys one night having a good time, and we're talking about stupid stuff, and the whole Boom Boom thing comes up.....Steve actually says "well is that because you have large breasts?" --- my girlfriend and I just looked at each other (you know we have ESP) and then she starts acting TOTALLY offended -- she said "WHAT? NO - what kind of disgusting question was that?" and I had to play along. That poor boy was so red-faced! Of course this is also the guy who told us that Cinco de Mayo was on the 6th this year, and that the lady working at the Mexican restaurant we were in was Spanish because "Spanish people and Mexican people are really the same thing." HAAHAAHAA - we were hysterical with laughter all night long! And he wasn't even drunk!! As Ace Ventura says "Lo-hoo-se-er" |
I don't even know where my nicknames came from. My full name is Alexandria - pretentious, huh? Yea, I go by Allie. For a while it was Ali, but people pronounced it as in "Muhammed" Ali, so I changed the spelling. My mom calls me Squirrel. I don't know why or how that came about. She says it is because I'm "squirrely," but you never know with her. Somehow Squirrel evolved into Tree Rat. Tree Rat?? I know, not the cutest, but I can almost guarentee that I am the only person called that lovingly.
My brother is nicknamed Boo Boo. That is because I would alway whine about having a boo boo whenever I hurt myself. BTW, I still do that now - I love pity in my agony! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif Anyway, everytime I said that, Matthew would giggle and repeat it over and over again, like some broken doll. It was hilarious. It got to the point where we just called him that. "Come here Boo Boo!" Allie http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif |
AXO Alum, you're the BOMB! I love it!
|
When I was little I was a plump baby and my great-grandmother started calling me yellow butter-ball. I still hear this nick name from time to time.
|
My parents have called me Kevin or Kev since I was little. This seventh grade girl once called me "Smiley" once. Ever since I was a kid my younger brother has had these pet names for everyone in the family *L* He calls me cudre(some kind of nonsense word I guess), my mom muter, and my dad I forget. Were talkin a 26 yr old systems analyst that uses these names. *L* When I was an active my brothers called me cha-cha, king helmut, and sometimes I was referred to as "Tonka". Thats what the AXPs called me.
Kevin |
I was Pidgeon, Babycakes, and Lady! *sigh* I love my momma! She gave me all those names and even made up a little song!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I may regret posting this, but here goes.
One day I was hanging out with my sister and our friends. She turns to me and says, "your head is shaped liked a raindrop!?!" From then on, everyone would call me "Raindrop Head". My sister and I got into a lot of physical altercations (down and dirty fights) because I hated the name so much. Boy, she loved to antagonize me. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif Anyway, we laugh about it now. BTW, I passed on my "raindrop head" to my son. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
I have a bunch.
My dad always talks about this story his grandma told him about a green eyed sneed, so he calls me a BLUE EYED SNEED. My mom calls me MUNCHKIN. My grandma calls me JULIEBABY. The other grandma called me TWINKLETOES. My sister calls me JULIEBETH, and my best friend found out so she does too, and sometimes JB. My sisters friends call me the LITTLE HOWETTE. (My last name is Howe.) My brother's friends call him Gorde(Gorde Howe was an awesome hockey player). So they call me LITTLE GORDE, GORDITA, or GORDETTE. My friends call me JEWELS, NEWELS, and NULIE. I was a camp councilor for a summer and went by HAPPY. And finally, almost every guy I've ever met calls me JULIE HOWE. Are there really that many Julies in this world? |

Yes. There's a ton. Plus it kinda flows. Julie Howe. Its got a nice ring to it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
chidhood nicknames...man...it's kinda embarassing...
either is was kimbo (after a reggae song) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif then i was called boo-ka bunny...one of my friends over heard a boyfriend call me his little boo-ka bunny and he was my boo-ka bear. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif ------------------ MaMaBuddha Devastating Stimulating Tantalizing _________________________ Imaginer un métro rempli avec les anges tombés... |
Okay.. I was a retarded child like this, I guess. But when I was like 4 or 5, I thought I really NEEDED these red boots for Christmas. My mama told me that maybe Santa Claus wouldn't have enough money to get the boots, so after I'd just seen "Robin Hood" I suggested that he just steal from the rich so I could get these boots. Well you know parents.. they have to go tell everybody. So now, even though I'm all grown up and wouldn't be caught dead in red boots... everybody at my church at home calls me "Robinhood". http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I was a big animal fanatic when I was little, and I was sure that I would eventually be a veterinarian. So I used to pretend that I was a cat sometimes, when I was really little. Because of that my brother took to calling me Furball.
My dad always called my brother the Tapper. I'm not quite sure why, I think maybe his dad called him that. So when I was born I became the Tapperette. That somehow evolved to Le Tapperette, which again somehow evolved to Le Tap the Rette. I don't get called that too much anymore, thank goodness. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I have a friend that I've known since the first grade who I call Munster. I don't even remember why anymore, but when we were in first or second grade I started calling her that and it stuck. It's still so funny, because when she sends me emails she signs it Munster. Her real name is Amanda, and I really wish I could remember why I came up with that nickname in the first place! |
When I was a little girl, my parents called me, get this...Mushnick. Mushnick's Flower Shop was featured in the musical my father was performing in (Little Shop of Horrors) when I was about 3 or 4 and for reasons unknown to ANYONE, I got stuck with that nickname for awhile.
My name is Tracy and my dad STILL calls me "Trainer" and all it took was for him to say that in front of one of my sisters and I was stuck with it all through college. My favorite nickname was given by some guy friends to one of my sisters who had BIG, BLONDE hair (this was the '80's, please keep in mind). Supposedly, she looked like Dee Snider, lead singer of Twisted Sister. Her nickname? DeeZee Snider, of course http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ @~Tracy~@ By the light of the lamp, by the light of the lamp, by the bright shiny light, by the light of the lamp...if you are a DeeZee, you're the best that you can be, by the bright shiny light of the lamp! Turtle. I was painfully shy, they said I was always "in my shell" and despite my scrawny build I was always the slowest runner in my class. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

Well, when I was really little my dad would call me "Amazing Amy" only, being like 4, and in the tone of voice he said it, and not knowing what amazing meant, I would, or so I am told, get really upset and yell at him to stop calling me "mazin amy." so christmas 99, what does my dad hand me grinning like the cheshire cat? A doll called Amazing Amy. It was hysterical.
My friend Didi from High School took to calling me AL (my initials) since there were always like 6 other Amys. To this day she calls me Al, never Amy. Other people hve tried to call me Al and it just didn't work, I didn't even respond, but from Didi, its natural and works. My Aunt calls me AmyGirl, has since the day I was born. Mail from her comes addressed to AmyGirl L... even. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif My nephew's name is Nicholas. I've called him Nicky Pickle and Pickle since he was a baby. He's 7 now, and loves to sing and dance and make up songs. The last time I saw him and said come here my Pickle, he stomped his foot and said, my name isn't Nicky Pickle, Its Nicky Martin. OMG, We were all laughing so hard, it was hysterical. |
Since my name is Elizabeth and I go by Liz, there are lots of nicknames people come up w/. When I was about 5 some cousins on my dads side were all younger and couldn't pronounce much yet. When I was young I still went by Elizabeth and my cousins couldn't say it right. They said Libathis(pronouncing the th like think not that). Relatives on that side of the family still call me that. My stepdad calls me Lizard or Lizzy Lou. My best friend's mom called me many things: bizzle, bizfiz, bizbutt, bizzlebutt, bizzbody. Any variations of "biz" she called me and STILL does http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Oh, I've had quite a few nicknames over the years. Some of them spawned out of the mispronounciation of my last name.
When I was really little, my mom's cousins started calling me Bopper, B Bopper, Bop, or B. I have no idea how this even started because I don't have a B anywhere in my name. My mom still calls me B, sometimes B Bopper if she's feeling crazy. And her cousins usually call me Bop or Bopper still. Some of my friends in high school came up with a lot of names for me. My last name is Gehl (pronounced like hell...only with a hard G). Anyway, a lot of people would say "gel" or some other strange variation of the name. So some of my friends would call me Gel, Gellie, Gehl-fish, Gel-fish, Gills. Now, just a few of them still call me Gellie. I can't really think of any of the nicknames that I have now. I think that most of my friends just call me Lindsay or Linds. |
Well, I have to say I have a quiet humorous nickname and a good story to go along with it. When I was in high school I cheered. I went to Greenup County, which if any of you are familier with cheerleading you know it has like the most famous high school cheerleading team in the nation. Well, anyway, I was very thin, had long legs, and dark hair which I always pulled into a low pony-tail. Well, anyway, one of my coaches got this idea that I looked like Olive Oyle from Popeye. He soon began calling me Olive along with everyone on the cheerleading squad. Not only that but when the book about Greenup County cheerleading was written I was one of the main characters, and my chapter was even called Olive Oyle. Also, because I go to Morehead, just a little ways from Greenup and where most people in my hometown end up for college, it has now caught on there. Of course now though, I look nothing like Olive Oyle and when I am called olive they think it's because I love eating olives or something weird like that!!!

I really like this topic!
My Dad has always called me Piggy (while my big sis was 'Angel' hmmm..what does that say?!). Both parents call me Jen-wren and big sister always calls me 'Nif'. My real name is Jennie (vs Jennifer) and I used to get so upset at people calling me Jennifer so my big sis (naturally) decided this was a good way to torment me. This progressed to 'Niffer' and then 'Nif'. She still calls me this and is the only person to do so. It's funny that this name used to make me actually cry and now I'm so used to it (I'm 23). It worked really well for her when there was an advert over here for some air freshener with the slogan 'Gets rid of Nasty Nifs'! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Boyfriend calls me Jen-o or Jenster and a high school friend still calls me Jen-ball. No idea why. Like Amycat said, other people have picked up on this and tried to use it but it only works for her. I get quite annoyed if other people try to 'steal' her name for me (!). Most other folk just call me Jen (*yawn*) I've always called my little sis 'Squirt' for the same reasons as my big sis...it used to make her cry instantly...aren't siblings terrible?! |
Its a bit embarassing but my mom used to call me poochie buns I have no Idea where that came from and my granny used to call me prissy chrissy because i always liked to dress up and put on makeup

When I was little, my aunt called me 'Monkey' because my dad owned a small pet supplies store and I used to climb on the dogfood bags. I don't think I had another nickname until sophomore year in H.S. where I earned the nickname 'Wheaties' because I could throw the ball from center field to home plate accurately. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif You know, the power thing. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif That same year, my best friend earned the nickname 'Cheeze' because, as one of our teammates said, everyone else had a nickname except her, and she needed one. I was there when she said "I know! We'll call you Cheeze!" LoL. And, it stuck! Most recently, I've earned the nickname 'Diva' because I really would prefer things to be my way!
