WARM FUZZIES
Hi,
I don't know if anyone else has noticed but there has been some negative stuff going on on this board and it's bothersome only because I come here to get away from the crunch and grind of life to talk to people with similar interests. So, in the spirit in which the title is written, I'd love to hear some warm fuzzies. Say something nice about someone you've met, on this site or otherwise. Tell us something great that happened to you or that you did for someone else. What can be better than a feel-good post? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif . Leslie |
This is an amazing 911 story that I saw on NBC Dateline maybe 2 weeks ago.
There was a couple with a 3 year old daughter. Dad worked, so Mom stayed home with the little girl. Mom had a condition where she would sometimes have a life threatening seizure (I think it was epilepsy, but I may be wrong). Anyhow, Mom talked to the pre-school teacher of the daughter to see if there was a way in which the kids could be taught to dial "911" and if they would know when it was appropriate, etc. So the pre-school teacher wrote a song to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands". It went like this: When someone needs help, I must dial 911! When someone needs help, I must dial 911! I dial 9, and then a 1, and then a 1 and help will come, When someone needs help, I must dial 911! Then the teacher took a phone (unplugged of course) and to teach the children how to actually dial 911. She painted a dot of green nail polish on the "9" (Green for GO) and then 2 dots of red polish on the "1" (Red for Stop, Stop). Well, of this effort paid off, because one day, Mom really did have a seizure. The little girl called 911 and said, "When are you going to come and get my Mommy?" and then after some back and forth with the 911 dispatcher, the little girl blurted out, "She has a seizure!" It was so amazing to watch this story unfold. The ambulance was there within minutes and Mom ended up being ok (and she would *not* have been ok, if there'd been a delay in getting help). Now, that 911 lesson is a part of that community's school curriculum. So amazing! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Wow I have a lot of those to pass out to people I chat with on here http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

GPHI2k,
What a wonderful idea. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif AXO Alum, glad I could be of service. *L* I find it strange that I could keep you rolling. Thats great though. I always enjoy reading your posts as well. Ok, heres my contribution. I dont really like advertising this but for the sake of this topic I will. I had a cornea transplant on July 29, 1999. I found out that I had come down with a corneal condition called keratoconus(the front side of my eye which becomes like a flat tire and distortes vision). They have no explanation for what causes it. Anyways, if I would have gone without the transplant, I would have became nearly blind. In my other eye I still have the condition and am saving the money or getting coverage where I can do the other transplant. Well, the surgery was a success and I have a 19 year old cornea in my eye. They cut out my old(front side of my eye) one and I was awake the whole time. It took me about 8 months to recover with 20 stiches in my eye but now theres no stiches and I'm doing great. I see 20/30 but before I saw 20/400. Major difference and it was a miracle. Wow. What an amazing story! I'm so glad to hear it all worked out for you and that you're doing well. Stories like that really make you stop and wonder sometimes. Thanks for making me take notice of the preciousness of life and health. Sometimes we all need to be reminded http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif . |
Yeah it did. I mean things arent perfect but I am definitely better off than I was before. Your welcome. I often reluctant to share it because many dont really understand it, but I'm glad you liked my story. Its definitely changed my outlook on my life and I'm always grateful to the boy who gave me his cornea. I have no idea who it is though or the family. Its really up to them and I dont see them ever trying to contact me. Anyways, you're welcome http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

This is a wonderful topic. Gosh, there are so many wonderful things that keep me coming back to GC. Please forgive me if I get a little long winded http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
Lesile and Amycat- You guys rock cause you love "my husband" http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif (Dave Matthews) as much as I do. I love meeting other Dave fans The LSU crew- juniorgrrl, and the lovely ladies of Sigma Alpha sorority. Even though we all have some not so nice opinions about LSU and it greek system, thanks for representing our school with class and grace Phoenixgrad, thanks for coming back to the board. I've missed you. Thanks also for the recent emails. They've helped alot, believe me Thanks to the person who posed the thread about the lady in one organization who saw a badge of another oraganization at an auction, brought it and returned to that organization. That made me feel all tingly inside cause to me that's what greekhood is all about Thanks to all the moderators for keeping everybody in line Last but not least, thanks to all the members of Divine Nine. There are always intersting debates going on in those formuns. A special thank you goes out to the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha who taught me how to SEARCH http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif, to the Gentlemen of Kappa Alpha Psi for keeping everybody in stiches with their insightful observations, and to IotaNet and RainMan who always pass on valuable information to the GC community http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Stick a fork in me cause I'm done http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
This is a great thread http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
I want to thank everyone here who has been so supportive of me during my unfortunate encounters with the dark side of the greek system. Ya'll have helped me keep faith that there are down-to-earth, nice people in sororities. Sometimes, especially at my school here, it feels like you are being watched all the time, for your hair, makeup, everything to be perfect. But ya'll have shown me that greeks are nice people who, overall, are more interested in character rather than looks- it reminded me of why I wanted to be one in the first place! To all the XO girls: I think ya'll are awesome - your sisterhood totally shines here. prospectiverushee and the sigma alpha girlies: GEAUX TIGERS! Ya'll are awesome representatives of a school that is too-often picked on. Ya'll are leading the way for a diversified Greek system here! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif to everyone else: thank you for being so funny and fun! I'm a horrible GC addict - I come here 5 or 6 or 20 times a day looking for new talk! I love y'all http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |

One thing I love about this site is the opportunity to read posts by other Canadian Greeks. I swear sometimes we are in our own world up in the Great White North http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. This is especially for GPhi2k and Lil G. We've got some awesome topics going about Greek life and life in general in Canada. And to all the regulars on this site http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif.

You want to know how i know this thread is doing this job? I come to work, turn on my computer, immediately come to GreekChat (OF COURSE!) and read this thread, and a big huge smile spreads across my face reading all your posts. That's the way every day should start!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif .
That's why I love you people http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif . Gosh whiz, thanks Hootie! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif It feels so good to have a place to come to and talk about stuff that is Greek to a lot of people (har har). I'd like to thank all the NPHC members on here for being wonderful teachers - all I know about the NPHC, I learned on Greek Chat! Thanks of course, to John for being the grand poo-bah and resurrecting this board from its somewhat tawdry greeksource past. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif Also thanks James, for keeping me sane and playing psychologist when I feel like getting that Uzi out of the closet.
Here's another warm fuzzy - a chapter sister who I haven't talked to for 5+ years calling me up to help me out with alum stuff. And ending up talking for an hour and a half like I just saw her yesterday. That's what sisterhood and brotherhood is really all about. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
I would have to agree with GPHI2k: This thread is going great.
I had a really bad day yesterday and so today when I read all the posts it made me cry because I felt so much love! I'm a sap, what can I say? Thanks guys! Amy PS> I go to RENO today! YEAH! I'll see yall on the 18th! |
I posted this story on the Beauty Pageant thread, but I wanted to mention the link here as well....
It's a very uplifting story. This TriDelta is an excellent example of the human spirit! Enjoy! There's something about Theresa ... http://www.nationalpost.com/search/s...03/463690.html Also, one of my favorite stories EVER is that thread "Greek Family" posted by Gina_lynn: http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/...ML/001497.html |
CutiePie2000,
Those stories are wonderful http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Theresa's story is truly amazing in how she overcame adversity. Kevin [This message has been edited by Miami1839 (edited March 14, 2001).] [This message has been edited by Miami1839 (edited March 14, 2001).] |

I got warm fuzzies when i got to work and realized that there were more warm fuzzies http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif . How funny is that? I just knew that there would be something in there to make me, well, warm and fuzzy. And it worked! Let me tell you, there is nothing better than warm fuzzies to greet you early on a monday morning. All you guys are the BEST!!!!

I have a warm fuzzy that i just have to share.
I have a friend who I haven known since I was One. No joke. When we were infants, we were insperale. My family moved when I was Three and we lost touch (cause, three year olds don't typically make plans of their own or talk on the phone http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif .) We ended up at the same camp when we were ten and became best of friends and inseperable again. It was great. Then, a year and a half later, her family moved out of the city, and we lost touch again. Almost THIRTEEN years later, (meaning about a month ago http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ) I started thinking about her and wondering about where and how she was, and so I looked her up on ICQ (gotta LOVE that program!!!) and as luck would have it, she was there. I got in touch with her, and now I AGAIN count her among one of the most special people in my life. It is almost like we didn't skip a beat (except for the extreme changes that take place in someone's life between the ages of 11 and 24). We keep joking now that we have to get intouch at least once a decade. But it is truly amazing to me how we are the most natural of friends such that an entire decade can pass and when we speak, it's as if we've been friends all along http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif . If there's someone who you've lost touch with by circumstance and not by choice, and you're thinking about them, get in touch with them. Sometimes you completely miss the void that is there until they return to fill it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. |

Yeah, I know they're not from your chapter but they are your sisters. Thats what I was trying to say. It does get cold down here yanno, but definitely not as cold as candian air http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I just got some good news.
My family lived in a smaller town for ten years (I personally only lived there for 5) and since have moved several times. My parents now live in the same state as our old town. Well, several months ago my father was diagnosed with cancer so since then my mother and he have both retired, and they were thinking about moving back to the old town. I called home tonight and my mom told me that the exact same house that we lived in 15 years ago is for sale and we might move back. I am so excited, and I know my older sister and brother will be too. My mom asked me if I wanted my old room back and I got really warm and fuzzy. |
Gphi2k,
Thats a wonderful story. That makes me feel all warm and good inside. This is a bit off topic but we had Halloween function once with your sorority and it was a blast. I remember a couple of your sisters at Mason that were very cool. Two of them that stick out in my mind were Lara and Penny. Kevin |
I'm sorry about your dad http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif but happy about your house http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Warm Fuzzie of the Day:
Our Union has a mini bowling alley in it. Well today while I was eating lunch, there were a group of young boys bowling. I watching them play as I'm eating and I notice this one boy who keeps getting gutter balls. So I'm watch him for a couple of frames and notice his shot. So afte his turn, I show him how to correct his swing and after that he was knocking down more pins |
I just thought about this one. There was a series on HBO about a year or so ago. It was last year I think. It featured all the men and women who had reached at least their 100th Birthday. I was really moved by the stories they shared. Also, the various walks of live they were from and the different events in history they experienced. I hope they do something like that again because I thought it was very special http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
No, I'm not trying to kiss up to anyone *L* Kevin |
Thought I'd bump this.
Given all the fun and frolic going on in greeklife, i figured we could all use some warm fuzzies. Anybody got a warm fuzzy? Anyone? (Please someone have somthing warm and fuzzy to say!!!) |
