New music you are into?
I'm always on the hunt for music, new, old, something different, I always love it.
So if you come across something interesting, or want to share a new obsession, tell us about it! i'll start: I'm going through the music from Veronica Mars and getting songs, which is leading me to other things that my roommates and I have talked about the last few days. this is more indie/rockish: Ryan Adams "to be young" but really anything by him i'm just discovering Elliott Smith (so amazing) i've always loved Pete Yorn, so anything by him "the way we get by" Spoon "such great heights" the postal service "annie" Vanessa Carlton (a sad song, but great) "portions for foxes" rilo kiley ANYTHING by Jimmy Eat World (one of my fave bands) esp "authority song" i'm also diggin' on Emily King as of late I put on my old standby of Ani Difranco her album Dilate is lifechanging, i swear! |

I listen to Pandora.com all day long. It's awesome because after months of tweaking my main station plays all kinds of wonderful stuff from Frank Sinatra/Sarah Vaughn to Evanescence/Delta Goodram to Sissel/Nana Mouskouri to They Might Be Giants to the GoGos. One of my new favorites is Haley Westenra - she is amazing, especially for being so young. |
I recently discovered Feist
Tegan and Sara Colbie Caillat (sick of Bubbly though) Damien Rice Jem Lily Allen Richard Cheese (too funny!) The Shins and Zero 7 I went on a downloading frenzy the other night and the week before and added about 40 songs to my iPod. It was sweet :D Unfortunatley, the IT guys where I work have blocked mp3 sites, so no Pandora or Yahoo Music for me :( But I'm allowed my iPod!! |
Alethia, can't go wrong with Ani. Seen her in concert 3 times and each time she totally kicked ass!

AF, you're right, but when I try to go to anything like that, it says something about mp3 content being blocked. No clue why or what that means in relation to how they blocked it though. BUT, they did just open up YouTube :D

Just as I read that her Dell'Amore Non Si Sa feat/Andrea Bocelli came up on Pandora.:) |
Got it - it has to do with streaming content not being allowed. No fair.
|
Dispatch- who are we living for? and silent steeples these cds are both great
Guster I love them, but lost and gone forever is a fave O.A.R. of courseeeee :) |

(in the tone of Napoloen Dynamite): Lucky!!!
Yeah, we got too many people surfing all day (real estate company, largest in town) and they're always talking about bandwith and server speed being slow. Sigh. |
I used to listen to Pandora all of the time, then they moved all the office staff to WYSE terminals and now I can't stream anything without lots of delays and skipping. I want a real computer again!
Oh, and I really like the new Alison Krauss/Robert Plant album. Sounds like a wierd combo, but it's good. |
Some of the stuff I've been listening to lately:
Tegan and Sara Rilo Kiley The Dresden Dolls Scissor Sisters Goldfrapp O.A.R. The Clarks The Transplants The Distillers Kaiser Chiefs Wolfmother The Fratellis Klaxons The Bravery Modest Mouse Paramore Megan McCauley Feist Social Distortion ETA: I can't listen to music at work. :( It says "No Audio Device" on our computers. Funny thing is at my old job, we didn't have games (like solitaire and minesweep) but we could listen to music on our computers. Now at this job, we have the games but no sound. I keep saying I need to buy a new mp3 player so I can listen to music at work...might wait until after the new year to see if there's any after Christmas deals. |
I like Paramore.

STEFY!
The Hives |
Ooh, I forgot about Flyleaf. Reminiscent of Evanescense but not quite...
|
I don't get into a ton of new stuff, but I do like Feist.
I don't listen to a ton of music, but when I do, it's usually The White Stripes, Jay-Z (Black Album & older), or Maroon 5. |
A friend got me hooked on Umphrey's McGee over the summer, and Drive By Truckers. I'm also liking Feist and Imogen Heap. I've also been hitting my parent's jazz collection quite a bit. Thelonius Monk is incredible.

not going to lie...I'm in love with the new Maroon 5 cd :)
Love Song by Sara Bareilles has been one of my favorites for a few months now |
Artists who have put stuff out this year that I like:
Kate Nash, Magnetic Fields, Why?, Crystal Castles, Dan Deacon, Pelle Carlberg, The Go Find, Calvin Harris, Destroyer, The Radio Dept., Saturday Looks Good to Me, Ezra Furman, Half-Handed Cloud, The National, The Weakerthans, and Battles I've posted my top 10 albums of the year HERE |
I can't even keep up with the new music today. People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them, I've never heard of a certain artist that's considered to be popular.
|
Just discovered Sara Bareilles from that comercial she's in.. and downloaded a crapload of her songs. :D
|
I do have a new obsession. She's still pretty underground (for now)...
Janelle Monae! Going to see her live this weekend! I'm also listening to a lot of both Jay-Z and Alicia Keys new album. |

I thought of a couple new ones for me: Charlotte Martin Tina Arena Daniel Rodriguez Sarah Shannon Blackmore's Night Audra McDonald Katie Todd Ginny Owens Giorgia Fumanti Jimmy Wayne It's mostly been (female) soloists lately. Oh, and I threw Loreena McKennitt and Culann's Hounds in my mix so I get some strong Irish music as well.:) |

And as I'm listening to Sara Bareilles more, I realize how much she sounds like Tristan Prettyman, not sure who I like more... |
Isn't Ginny Owens a Christian singer who's blind...? Or am I thinking of someone else? If that's the lady I'm thinking of, she did a small live show for my company when I was in the Army and gave out free CD's when she left and we all got to meet her - the chaplain liked to get us Christian artists to see to lift our spirits a little bit since we were all the injured kids from Basic. Sorry, OT.
