Where did you pref?
Shamelessly borrowed from other forums . . .
I preffed Zeta and of course Gamma Phi. |
I only rushed Gamma Phi - I wanted nothing to do with any of the other sororities on campus.
I'll admit that I had a great time rushing and was very happy to be left at the end with my two favorites from Day 1: Gamma Phi Beta and Delta Delta Delta. I was one of the last women left in the room when we were filling out our bid cards and knew I would truly be happy in either sorority.
Glad you chose us!
I preffed ZTA, although they were never at the top of my list. Great girls, don't get me wrong, just not for me.
I preffed Alpha Chi Omega and Gamma Phi Beta. I had such a difficult time during pref card signing, but finally went with my gut. I love the Alpha Chi's at UCR (and all my other AXO friends!) but I think I picked the right choice. ;)
Gamma Phi, Chi O and Alpha Phi...Definitely made the right choice! :)
I preffed Gamma Phi and Alpha Phi. Both had beautiful ceremonies and it was a tough decision. Wisconsin is cold in the winter and the G-Phi house is closest to campus and Alpha Phi is the furthest. (I rushed 2nd semester -February). So I admit that might have been the tie-breaker, but I am SOOOOO glad I picked Gamma Phi!!
I too preffed Gamma Phi and Alpha Phi. :) I know I made the right choice!
I did Spring Rush, for us that was kind of a mix between formal and COR, so I only prefed Gamma Phi! :p
Alpha Xi Delta and of course, Gamma Phi Beta. The A Xi D's were nice enough, but not for me. I was so thrilled when I got my top choice!
I preffed Kappa Delta, and filling out my bid card was an easy choice, I was set on Gamma Phi!
This is kind of an aside, but was anyone else told during rush that you could list all the houses that you were ASKED back to pref on your bid card? For example, I was asked back to my 4 houses from the previous round, and actually changed my mind about the other house I preffed - and put them 3rd behind a house I dropped the day before. When I was on this side of rush, I realized there was no way I would have wound up in a house I didn't pref, so I wondered why I was allowed to rank them at all. Any thoughts? |
You are probably younger than I (I'm 43). It sounds like they were trying to maximize your options . . . is that what it is called? I remember something like this coming onto campus when I was an advisor.
That makes sense, and yes, I'm a little younger (mid-twenties). I suppose it would have depended on the strength of the various chapters' return rates and the strength of my position on the bid lists. But I can only imagine if, as an active, we had seen a woman on Bid Day who we didn't see on Pref Night! What a surprise that would have been!

At my school i was allowed to pref up to 3. I knew from the start i wanted to be a Gamma Phi cause thats where I truly felt at home (and cause my mom was a gamma phi) so I said I just wanted to pref Gamma Phi but the Greek Advisor was kinda crazy and told me that because i was invited back to all the chapters that i HAD to pref 3. so i preffed Alpha Chi Omega, and Sigma Sigma Sigma too (not like I wanted either of them)
I preffed Gamma Phi, of course, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Sigma Delta Tau. I knew that Gamma Phi was my top choice...the hardest part was ranking the other two. I was lucky...I wanted Gamma Phi from day one!
I preffed Gamma Phi and Alpha Phi. It was such a hard decision for me but I definitely made the right decision! <3

Gamma Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma
I went into recruitment knowing very little about sororities. I rushed in the spring during informal recruitment and, while I was also considering rushing Delta Gamma and Alpha Phi, the Gamma Phi Beta women were so sincere, funny and welcoming that I chose to accept the bid I was offered right away.
I was a little unsure about joining a sorority at first, but Gamma Phi Beta was so amazingly supportive and friendly that I soon knew I had made one of the best decisions of my life. =) |
Gamma Phi Beta, Tri Delta, Delta Gamma
I joined in during informal recruitment. There was one day where you did 20-minute (or thereabouts) parties at all 10 orgs, and then it was up to you to attend some of their upcoming COB events.
I was most interested in Gamma Phi, Delta Gamma and Alpha Chi Omega. Due to various conflicts, I never got back to Alpha Chi, so it was really between Gamma Phi and DG. When I got my bid to Gamma Phi, I was pretty certain I wanted it more than DG or AChiO. I accepted my bid and was done with recruitment!:D |
Pref!
I preffed Delta Zeta and of course Gamma Phi Beta! I am a g phi legacy so I really wanted to make sure my decision was based on what I wanted, not what my sister wanted!
I definitely made the right choice! Love in IIKE, Erin |
I preffed Delta Gamma and Alpha Delta Pi.
I preffed Gamma Phi Beta and Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Gamma Phi Beta and Zeta Tau Alpha
I preffed Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Gamma Delta. When I went home for a weekend that fall, I ran into Gamma Phi alum (Esther Dean Nyland, Beta 1919) coming out of a local shop as I was going in. She told me she was disappointed to have heard from the AGD alum who'd written me a rec that I'd joined her sorority, and I said, "No, I didn't, Esther Dean! I joined Gamma Phi!" She was sooooooo happily surprised and excited...it was priceless! After I initiated, she gave me her badge, which I wear with love and reverance (and IH's full knowledge :)

I preffed Kappa Delta and Gamma Phi Beta. It took forever to make that decision! But in the end I knew I had already made a lot of connections in Gamma Phi, but hardly any in Kappa Delta. :) |
I preffed Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Xi Delta.
My mom was the AXD chapter advisor at the time and knew that I really wanted GPB (and was, in her opinion, a better fit for that chapter) so my mom bumped the girl who was preffing me and sat down and told me all the things I needed to be looking for in a sorority home - and that it was more important to her that I find those things than worry about legacy. On my bid day, she came over to where the GPBs had gathered and gave me a teddy bear (AXD mascot) tied with scads of pink and brown GPB ribbon. That meant so much to me... to this day, I love my pref story and being Greek women is still our common bond, regardless of the house! |
Your mom embodies the Panhellenic spirit, Jenidallas! :)

In fact, we just had a very good Pan talk earlier tonight. (I found out my cousin was released from GPB before 3rd round at the school where she is going through recruitment.) As she very astutely reminded me, recruitment is mutual and it's about being somewhere that we want to be with people who want us to be there. She's a wonderful role model. :) |
