I was at work today and one of my coworkers informed me that the average person eats 9 spiders unknowingly on average a year...while this gross me out it also intrigued me...does anyone else have a random fact like that they know that is kind of cool?
------------------ pass that old silver goblet with the Phi Mu upon it and we'll all have another round of *cheer* cuz it's not for knowledge that we came to college but to have fun while we're here! |
Yep here's one. 9 things break on my car each week. Oh wait, this is meant for random facts http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

DG phoney, I had heard this before too. They said it happens when you are sleeping, no joke. One can only imagine what kind they are. I am guessing the really tiny ones.

Random facts? how about:
80% of all backrubs from the opposite sex lead to some form of sexual activity with that person, at some point in time (ie you only give/receive back rubs from people you're interested in) - from the Heit report on human sexuality i'll try to think of some more later |
Yo Ksig. That is very beliveable. There were a wholotta backrubs given out my freshman year at school. Haven't seen much of it around since. Think that is part of the freshman expierience, or people just getting a feel for the campus? (pardon the pun)

Though hyenas are thought of by most people as scavengers, they are actually accomplished hunters. Lions steal more kills from hyenas, than hyenas from lions.
O3, the component that makes up Ozone, is actually detrimental to the ozone layer! I can't remember how, though. Something about it being really unstable. |
Cool topic! Here are some of the ones I've heard.
*The first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time television were Fred and Wilma Flintstone. *Every day, more money is printed for Monopoly than for the US Treasury. *Coca Cola was originally green. *The average cost of raising a medium-sized dog to age 11: $6,400. *Intelligent people have more zinc and copper in their hair. *The world's youngest parents were age 8 and 9 and lived in China in 1910. *Honey is the only food that doesn't spoil. *What trivia fact about Mel Blanc (voice of Bugs Bunny) is the most ironic? He was allergic to carrots. * 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321. |
Oh yeah, here's one for all you ladies out there. I don't know if it's true or not, but someone told me that the average woman eats 2 pounds of lipstick per year!
|
not a fact just something I have observed...if a guy and a girl watch a movie together..the lights are out and a blanket is nearby...they will hookup...this used to be a theory of a friend of mine but i didnt believe it..it is however true in my experience..if u are single, try it and let me know.. I can no longer test my theory, i now have a bf... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Although everyone knows the Secret Service guards the President, they usually don't know that the official job of the Secret Service is to guard currency. They are employees of the treasury department.
-------- Other random musings... The children's song 'Ring around the Rosy' is about the Plague. George S. Patton competed in the 1912 Olympics in Modern Pentathalon. He placed 5th in the individual overall and did not place at all in the sabre portion of the competition. |
I doubt this is completely true but maybe for some people. (I read it in a magazine):
On average, guys think about sex every 30 seconds while girls think about sex every 7 minutes. Crazy! |
Stamps and envelopes are two calories per lick.

there are a lot of stupid facts at www.dumblaws.com an example: in Chicago (if i remember correctly) it is illegal to eat in a restaurant that's on fire. Also, what is the most common first name in the world? If you guess "mike" or "jenny" it is actually Mohammed, because Islam is the most widespread religion in the world. What is the most popular last name? Wang (my geography teacher Dr.Wang said this of course)...because China has the biggest population in the world. Who is the most famous geographer? Michael Jordan. (he majored in that field.) |
i dont know how stupid this sounds, but it was all i could think of. did u know once you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated???

EWW!! 2 pounds of lipstick?? |
I learned this from Trivial Pursuit: EVERY human dies from the same thing! Lack of oxygen to the brain. No matter what happens to you, the reason your body actually dies is because your brain no longer gets oxygen and cannot keep the rest of the body going.

mules can't reproduce...they are a mix of a donkey and a house and cannot therefore produce offspring

here are some more people have sent to me from another page
A can of SPAM™ is opened every 4 seconds. Every year more people are killed by donkeys, than in aircraft crashes. The average speed of Heinz™ ketchup leaving the bottle is 25 miles per year. More people are alive today, than have ever died. The average person walks the equivalent of twice around the world in a lifetime Women burn fat more slowly than men, by a rate of about 50 calories a day. |

rabits reproduce in accord to the fibonacci sequence (1,1,2,3,5,8,11....)
The Sun has used approx. 1% of it's elements in fusion typewriter is the longest word that can be spelled using only the top row of the keyboard "Gadsby" is the only novel ever written without the use of the letter E (supposedly) JD Salinger taught Biology at the University of Louisville (according to a book on him) The "New" River is the oldest river in the western hemisphere, and only one of two rivers that flow south to north "San Gral" means Holy Grail "Sang Ral" means Blood of Christ what was supposed to be in the Holy grail? ...the Blood of Christ The fibonacci sequence that converges to a ratio of two sides of a rectangle, by squaring off one side and creating a curve through the square part, and continuing this, you get a logrithmic curve - which is the shape of the spiral found in pine cones and sea shells, to get the fibonacci sequence you can add up the diagonals of pascals triangle there are only 8 planets...pluto is too small to actually be classified as a planet and is believed to have once been a moon of Neptune an anagram for "President Clinton of the USA" is "to copulate, he finds interns" every jovian planet has rings..not just saturn the sun needs a temperature of 10 Million Degrees Kelvin to complete the Fusion It actually burns at 15 million degrees kelvin the longest word in the english language is antidisestablishmentarianism (i think) I'm sure I can think of better ones than ones related to math later...when I do, I'll post them.... In Lexington, Ky
It is illegal to transport an ice cream cone in your pocket. By law, anyone who has been drinking is "sober" until he or she "cannot hold onto the ground." In Owensboro A woman may not buy a hat without her husband's permission. One may not receive anal sex |

Since it is hard to keep bugs out of cereal factories, the FDA allows a certain amount of bugs, roaches, and rat pellets in every box of cereal. Just some food for thought!
Also, when you're feeling hungry, most of the time you're probably thirsty. Humans have a hard time being able to tell if they're thirsty or hungry (because our senses are all screwed up) and usually go for food instead. So, if you're trying to lose weight and you feel hungry, grab a glass of water and you'll feel better! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |

Holy $hit Cory, LOL.
I'm soooo bad at theorems that I won't even try to disprove that one!!!! |
Quote:
first line - girls require time and money becomes girls = time x money. This is akin to saying "twenty requires five and four", which actually would imply something else - more likely, it would become either twenty requires two and zero, or twenty requires 10 and 10 (etc). let's assume this to be correct, as stated in the second way. So the new proof: Girls require time and money. Girls = time + money. time is money girls = money + money = 2money money is the root of all evil girls =2(sqrt(evil)) so this way, girls are merely fractional evil . . . which i actually like more - think about it: Girls are soft, smell good . . . you know where I'm going here . . . but they're so damn evil too. I'm sticking by my 'fractional evil' theory . . . *note - i'm just f-ing around, no comments necessary thanks* |

Can anyone try to disprove it so that girls do NOT equal evil?? Though it might be impossible if you use the money factor. [This message has been edited by newbie (edited June 20, 2001).] |
*Vancouver is home to the first and largest clothing optional beach in Canada (Wreck Beach also happens to be part of the UBC campus)
*Vancouver throws the second largest Canada Day celebration (I'm assuming Ottawa is 1st) *Vancouver has the largest number of swimming pools per captia in Canada *Vancouver has the largest number of millionaires per square kilometre in North America *Vancouver has the largest number of HIV victims per square kilometre in North America (the last 2 facts I heard a few years back so I don't know how accurate they are now). |

most of that is just stuff I've learned in classes from teachers like 'by-the-ways' they'd throw out during a lecture the thing about clinton a friend of mine told me, i'm not sure if he'd figured it out or not on his own |
here is a well known fact, but a little known proof
fact: girls are evil proof: girls require time and money girls = time x money time is money girls = money x money = money^2 money is the root of all evil money = sqrt(evil) girls = (sqrt(evil))^2 = evil thus girls = evil |
