What Food Do you Dislike that Everyone Else Loves, and Why

Mine would be anything Parmesean.
I absolutely don't like Veal Parmesean, Chicken Parmesean, Eggplant Parmesean, etc.

It's because the breading become soggy once they add the red sauce, and I don't like soggy breading

I do like Eggplant Parm (had it for lunch yesterday) - but I don't like Chicken Parm. Chicken does not go with Marinara sauce. Yuck.

SydneyK 12-01-2007 04:08 PM

Cheesecake.

The first time I tried it, I was maybe 10 or so. It's definitely an adult kind of taste. I'm sure I'd like it now if I tried it again, but I'm saving myself the fat & calories by telling myself it's yucky.

carnation 12-01-2007 04:20 PM

Anything spicy. I don't even like peppermint! I think that spicy or hot things must burn my mouth a lot worse than other people's.

Buttonz 12-01-2007 05:27 PM

Tunafish. I can't stand the smell, forget about anything else. Really, the smell makes me gag. To bad my roomie loves tuna.

It is all my great grandmother's fault also.

chitownxo 12-01-2007 06:00 PM

It's not really a food -- just a condiment -- but I absolutely HATE ketchup. I think it smells bad, and is just overall icky. I've been known to scrape it off burgers if someone dares to slop it on my food.

AGDee 12-01-2007 06:02 PM

mayonaisse and salad dressings. I just don't like em and everybody thinks it's odd.

Scandia 12-01-2007 06:07 PM

- Meat
- Seafood
- Pasta alfredo or asiago, since it is usually too salty for my tastes
- Ice cream. I do not dislike it, but I prefer yogurt and sherbet.
- Cola. And sodas in general- but especially colas like Coke and Pepsi.
- Beer
- Casseroles. Again- way too salty.
- Grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cottage cheese, and things with similar consistencies.

So, um, what DO you eat??

texas*princess 12-01-2007 06:28 PM

A couple of my coworkers have some major food issues.

One cannot be around corn of any kind.... because just the smell of it makes her physically ill.

Another "can't" eat vegetables or fruits of any kind.

My little brother won't eat Jell-O or anything that is not really solid like Whip Cream. We're not sure why, but when he was a baby, he was in the hospital a lot because of some health issues, so we think that's why he has refused to eat Jell-O since he was a young kid.

If you are eating, don't read this
When I was in the hospital having my tonsils and adnoids removed (I was around 4), I had ate some kind of red Jell-o after dinner. That evening I began to hemmorhage. I was sent down for emergency surgery.

It wasn't until I was old enough to understand what really happened and I almost had died from it. I refused to eat red Jell-O for many years because I thought I had become sick from it.

KSUViolet06 12-01-2007 07:27 PM

I'm very picky:

*Eggs. I don't like them in ANY form (fried, scrambled, whatever) They have an odd texture and they look and smell gross.

*Hot dogs. They're also gross and basically "mystery meat" to me.

*Sushi. I know it makes people feel more "cultured" to eat it, but I think it's awful.

*Fish of any kind. It's just nasty.

*Any Chinese food. I just don't like it. It's all disgusting.

*Anything spicy. Ew.

*Alfredo sauce anything. Doesn't have enough flavor to me.

*Fruit-flavored candies like Jolly Ranchers, Starbursts, etc. I'm just more of a chocolate person and I also just think the artificial taste is gross.

*Beer. Nasty. I don't get why people love it.

*Wine & Champagne. Yucky. I also don't see the allure of this. The only alcoholic beverages I drink are things like mixed drinks.

*Pancakes. I think they're very gross UNLESS covered in topings so I can't taste them.

*Anything like oatmeal, grits, or cream of wheat. I don't like the texture and they taste gross.

ree-Xi 12-01-2007 07:40 PM

I refuse to eat PB & J, tuna, hot dogs (although I love the way they smell), seafood, anything pork, and ketchup. As a kid growing up, I also hated any lunch meat except for turkey. So for years, I brown-bagged a turkey sandwich on plain bread (no condiments) and a baggie of pretzels. I still do that as an adult.

Cardinal026 12-01-2007 08:03 PM

Any sort of condiment or topping - mayo, mustard, sour cream, chives, salad dressing, miracle whip, pickles, tomatoes - anything that isn't the basic part of the meal. I eat pretty much everything plain.

lauralaylin 12-01-2007 08:29 PM

I don't like donuts. I've tried many time, but I'm always disappointed.

Kevin 12-01-2007 08:30 PM

Hot Dogs or anything made from meat cuts I can't identify.

Yellow mustard

Other than that, I generally will try anything once -- except tongue. They serve tongue sandwich at a local restaurant. That seems to cross a line for me.

Buttonz 12-01-2007 08:35 PM

PB&J is another thing I won't touch. I think because I was never given it as a kid so the thought of the two of them together makes me shudder.

Beer...just can't stand the taste. And I've tried a number of different ones, including stuff like Blue Moon which most people seem to like.

tnxbutterfly 12-01-2007 08:41 PM

Beer- I just never seen what the big deal was

coffee-I got some from Starbucks one time because I had a free coupon. It was nasty! Tasted like burned dirt. Plus I'm more of a tea girl

gumbo- Having lived in New Orleans for like a billion years, I never liked the texture of it.

bananas- yuck

nittanyalum 12-01-2007 09:18 PM

Coconut. On anything. In anything. Blech.

ETA: Except I will drink a Pina Colada, which has coconut cream in it. It's not my first choice of drink, but I can deal with coconut in that form. Only.

SWTXBelle 12-01-2007 09:51 PM

I don't like cold cuts, or pb&j sandwiches.
I just don't like cold sandwiches.

AKA_Monet 12-01-2007 10:08 PM

I am a vegetarian, so I don't eat the flesh except eggs--rarely, except in cakes and pies, and rarely drink milk or eat ice cream--except in cakes.

Anyhow I DETEST and LOATHE to no end Catsup!!! I never liked it...

And I DETEST CANNED mushrooms and peas. DO NOT give me that.

And I will NEVER eat BACON... I never liked it as a kid, I do not like it now. I make it all the time for my husband.

I use "wonderslim" and "egg-replacer" for my eggs. I use soy/rice milks for the dairy. I will replace my food before going to the original item... And if it is original, I will prefer organic.

Scandia 12-01-2007 10:08 PM

I love Pina Coladas. And carrot cake.

I like my pasta with marinara sauce.

I like mustard. I did not think I would like it- but I do.

I like cheesecake, but do not eat it often.

I dislike sushi and do not see what is so appealing about it.

And wine is much better than beer.

AlethiaSi 12-01-2007 10:12 PM

I HATE JELL-O.
The mere sight of it makes me gag. I have to go in the other room or away from anyone that is eating it or if it's out.

I don't like spicy things either. The feeling of my tongue and mouth burning is not appetizing to me. Plus I get heartburn from looking at anything acidic...

irishpipes 12-01-2007 10:54 PM

Coconut
Green pepper
Mushrooms
Coffee
Seafood
Nuts (except peanut butter)
Olives
Indian food - the smell is absolutely nauseating to me

I do like like ANY cooked peppers, stuffed peppers, etc. I prefer raw peppers. But I dislike cutting them up into "wedges".

Xidelt 12-02-2007 12:00 AM

Sushi or any type of shellfish
Beer/wine--i've tried to like them, multiple times. Honestly.
Olives
Boiled peanuts. That's just wrong.
Sweet tea, iced tea....just don't like it!
Tofu
Soy milk. Contrary to what many people say, soy can't do anything and everything!
Cabbage.
Nuts in cooking/desserts
Spicy foods
Celery

I've tried it and I just can't take it. It's cheese in a dessert.

Carrot cake is another hate, for the same reason. A vegetable? In a dessert? Gross.

I also hate sushi. Everyone's always "let's go get sushi!" and I'm making Mr. Yuck faces.

I also do not like cheesecake, carrot cake or sushi. Coffee makes me ill though I do like the taste. I also hate cucumbers. When my roommate was mad at me in college he would put cucumbers in the frig.

honeychile 12-02-2007 12:44 AM

Too-Spicy foods
Sushi
Peppers of any sort
"Exotic" meats
Turkey, if I have to smell it cooking
Stuffing that's been in the bird
In Europe, when they serve you sausage and it's really icky boiled hotdogs with the grease still on them. *shudder*

I have one of those mothers who insisted that we try everything because, "You never know if you're going to become a diplomat or a missionary or just very well travelled," so I learned early how to at least try to eat the things I detest. That doesn't mean I like it, at all!

Fleur de Lis 12-02-2007 01:02 AM

Coffee - I keep trying to like it, but I just don't!
Oatmeal
A lot of cooked veggies, especially mushrooms. I'll eat fresh veggies all day long, but no thanks if it's mushy when cooked.
Canned green beans
Stuffing
Any dish that's served with chopped up meat - I'll eat a few bites and then pick out all the meat.

Until a few years ago, I really didn't like chocolate. This drove me crazy because I love the texture of brownies, but didn't like the taste. I'm over it now. :P

WarEagle07 12-02-2007 01:20 AM

Chocolate......I've tried to like it but I just can't.

SOPi_Jawbreaker 12-02-2007 02:12 AM

What in the world is wrong with you people? :p

I love love love so many of the foods mentioned (sushi, seafood, cheesecake, spicy foods, beer, wine, champagne, pb&j, stuffing, tofu, soy milk, chocolate).

I don't like mayo, mustard (though I like honey mustard dipping sauce for chicken nuggets), pickles, eggplants, asparagus, mushrooms, anything seasoned with dill (both the smell and the taste make me feel queasy), scallions (though I like leeks and chives), tomatoes, and tart fruit-flavored candies.

i had that problem but "needed" to have something help me stay awake in class after working the midnight shift so i started with cafe mocha's and started adding more espresso til i was okay to try heavily half and halfed coffee. now i drink coffee and love it.

it took some "training" but it worked.

- m

ps. personally i'm not a fan of store bought or restaurant carrot cake. my grandma made a mean carrot cake from scratch and i just have never been able to find that in a store bought or restaurant carrot cake. i keep crossing my fingers but i'll usually just end up taking two bites and being disappointed...

LeslieAGD 12-02-2007 09:20 AM

I have a lot of food "issues" so there are many things I can't eat...

- Any kind of fish and most other seafood: the smell of tuna literally makes me gag

- Any food that is grilled except for corn heavily wrapped in tin foil: when I was a kid my family teased me that I just didn't like the lines, but I really hate the grill flavor

- Most nuts: except for certain types of peanut butter, or very thinly chopped walnuts or almond that are mixed into other things (ie - cookies, cereal)

- Vitamin D, Skim, or Fat Free Milk: I only like 2% Milk or half and half, everything else tastes watery or too thick

- Beer: I just don't get it...I imagine this is what urine would taste like

- Left overs and most food prepared in the microwave: reheated foods taste awful to me

- Bacon, Mustard, Relish, and Mayo: yuck!

They arent supposed to give children that have had that procedure red Jell-O for that reason (makes it harder to establish between the Jell-O and blood). You are very lucky they got you to the OR in time!!!

I dont like Ham. I'll eat hot dogs, sometimes sausage and other things with pork in it but I cant stand Ham for whatever reason. I also love pickles and cucumbers but refuse to eat pickle relish. I wont eat anything with paprika on it either.

twinkle555 12-02-2007 12:08 PM

im not a picky person at all, but i really dont care for peanut butter, and cinnamon/peppermint candy. my boyfriend is the worst though..he is SO picky!! i find it odd that he doesnt like mac and cheese....i mean, what is so gross about that??? its delish!!!

Oh bacon, bacon, bacon, how I hate it! I won't eat BLTs, bacon garnishes, club sandwiches, plain bacon strips, etc... I hate the taste and texture, and the smell does nothing for me.

I also stopped eating beef for a long time either because I could not get over the taste. It just wasn't very appealing to me. I'll have it on occasion now, but it's just not very often.

Scandia 12-02-2007 12:54 PM

- I do not like any milk that is not skim. I have switched to almond milk at home. I ask for my milk based drinks to be made with as lowfat milk as possible. Maybe this is part of the reason why I prefer lowfat/fat-free yogurt, sherbet, and sorbet over ice cream. I do love sour cream and cheese- although I prefer the reduced fat versions.

- I hate bacon with a passion. Well, I dislike pork. It gave me an adverse reaction back in the 6th grade. It royally irks me when they put bacon bits into soups and salads- especially when it is not advertised.

aephi alum 12-02-2007 06:53 PM

Nuts: I just don't like 'em.

Oatmeal, porridge, cream of wheat, etc: Makes me want to gag.

Rice cakes: Also makes me want to gag. I love rice (it was my downfall back when I did the Atkins diet), but in cake form - forget it. I even get nauseous if someone nearby is eating a rice cake.

Olives: Can't stand 'em. I have sent martinis back when the bartender accidentally uses an olive instead of a twist. (And no, giving me a twist and a spoon to fish out the olive is not acceptable.)

Pickles: Why would anyone want to take a perfectly good cucumber and ruin it?!

Milk: Plain ol' white milk just tastes nasty to me. I take calcium supplements so my bones won't disintegrate in 40 years or so.

And there are a bunch of veggies I can't stand, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who hates brussels sprouts and green beans :p

Animate 12-02-2007 07:16 PM

Chocolate! I have never liked chocolate and whenever I tell someone that they say "Are you human?" or something along those lines lol

im big on texture. i need to be able to chew it to an extent.

whip cream, jello, pudding (esp tapioca... bad childhood trauma, i was told it was maggots in sauce). i dont even like too much frosting.

::wiping some frosting off of this cake im eating right now::
