i think the Greek system at alabama is great! but as a fraternity member, i was wondering why the sororities have SOOO MANY RULES about their girls having a good image and not hooking up with guys?

i mean its cool and all...but i would think the attitude would be more relaxed and laid back about hook ups and all

My sorority has no rule against our members hooking up with men. We may have guidelines encouraging our members NOT to act like a drunken slut at functions, but we have no rule against our members hooking up with men.

What fraternity are you a member of?

well actually one of my friends here at bama did transfer b/c he warned me before i came that IN HIS OPINION (not saying this is true) the fraternity parties were lame b/c girls didn't come unless they had to in order to get their sorority points and that football game dates didn't mean anything b/c many of the girls already had bf's and that many of the girls were prudes.

not saying its true, just what he thinks. he's at auburn now.

Why do sororities have rules? Which rules is he talking about? Are they indeed sorority rules, or just a perception he and his friends have? Maybe the girls seem prudish simply because they are not interested in him/his friend? I don't know - just saying . . .

Are you the only one in your fraternity complaining about this?

this was just an observation which seems to be true from the way people are responding to this thread and from what we've noticed in school

A) i love bama

B) i came here to get a good education

C) i came here to party

D) i wanted to start dating girls and find a girlfriend

as for D

1. the girls dont really want to come to the fraternity parties but have to in order to get their points which sucks b/c the mentality isnt there

2. i was so excited about going on dates w/ girls to football games...but i realized soon it didnt even mean anything. alot of the girls had bf's anyway...so its like why are u goin on a date to the fball game w/ me? that was truly dissapointing

3. swaps are fun, but once again many of the girls HAVE to go and dont seem to really wanna take it further i.e goin out to dinner and a move later etc..

If these girls don't want to go to parties with you (you and the other fraternities you), I'm sorry, but there must be something wrong with you.

I know mixers/swaps are alcohol free now and not as fun as they used to be, but they're the same way everywhere, and I don't see guys from every school complaining that the girls are just "meh" about them.

As the Mom of a Bama sorority girl, I say "Way to go, girl". I am very glad that she is not hooking up with the likes of you. If that is all you want out of a relationship, then maybe you are looking in the wrong place!!

I could be wrong but maybe it's you.......I usually only go on dates with guys I'm actually interested in.

No one every guaranteed that Joining a Fraternity = Lots of Dates = Partying with the Sorority Girls = Getting Laid

To help answer your original question, it would behoove you to get involved with other campus outlets other than Greek life. The Greek presence at Bama is huge, but there are other women out there who you could meet somewhere else on campus. In no way are you compromising your fraternal pride, but you could probably meet a gorgeous young woman who will stay over late because she doesn't feel like following the "rules".

It's no guarantee that you'll hook up (whatever your definition of that is), but there is a better chance that you'll have someone who will stop by your house to see you, and not be seen.

Well, that's your problem, son. Those sweet Bama Belles don't always cotton to yankees.

Umm on behalf of people from Alabama I'm going to have to say that the girls are not prudes...they just aren't your everyday whore that you are looking for. :mad:

And that's it in a nutshell.

Hooking up is different from dating and making someone your girlfriend. In fact, most girls eventually learn that the surest way to NOT make a guy your boyfriend is to hook up with him. And sororities don't like to be known as the "slut" house; my friend's alma mater has a saying about the sororities on campus: (GLOs remain anonymous) "F*#$ a ABC, date a DEF, marry a XYZ." No one wants to be that used, or to be labeled as a "slut" through association.

so who wants to explain the points thing?

A lot of NPC sororities use a point system to ensure attendance at events and require a certain amount of points a semester - like a mixer with AKL is 10 pts, Homecoming pageant is 5 pts, etc. Here's some other threads:

i just want to take a minute to thank everyone who replied to this post.

it has helped me better understand the university of alabama.


now that we've clarified some things it has made me a much happier person I.E.

1. if u go the game with a girl...and nothing comes of it...its not personal she just needed her points and u just had to have a date anyway. also she might have a boyfriend

2. if u meet a girl at a mixer and she's not really feeling u....well she might have a bf and might actually be dead tired but has to come to get the points

3. we hold respect, pride, tradition, and values here at the univ of alabama and we stand above all the other universities where the girls compromise their morals for a little fun. our girls are classy.

Dude...seriously...get off the points thing. The point system has little to nothing to do with what you are trying to convety. If a girl doesn't go home with you she doesn't want to plain and simple. If she goes to an event and doesn't go home with you...she doesn't want you.

And stop all the damn Roll Tide mess. It really makes you seem immature.

B) you dont understand...its about the image of the sorority...if they go home with you their sorority will be labeled as slutty. plus i asked one girl and she said that the girls in the sorority told her NOT to go into a guys room in case something goes on. its imp. for the sororities to keep their image.

Okay? Whats wrong with a sorority wanting to keep up a good image? You are aware of the stereotype that comes along with being in a sorority right? Hell, you know how women in general are viewed if they are seen going around with random guys. I say good for them.

samjones, maybe you need to get some counseling in order to deal with these things. You're blaming the sororities for the girls rejection of you. Maybe you smell. Maybe you're rude. Maybe you skeeve them out. Maybe you're a jerk. The girls aren't required to date you, and you're not entitled to a date with them. Honestly, if any girl heard this rant of yours, I'm sure she would be quite hesitant to date you. It's freaky and weirdly obsessive. Perhaps there's some sort of escort service out there that caters to guys with sorority girl fetishes.
