The conversation was so strained and the girls definitely did not put on a good face for the sorority.

Please be careful what you say, I understand that you have already finished recruitment but it is not hard to figure out where you are going to school. This sorority you speak off is not considered "new", they closed I believe in Spring of 2002 under the condition to reorganize and come back as a colony this year. They had a very sucessful recruitment this Fall and I believe pledged 138 women. Colonizing is hard for chapters because they have to bring in other college members from other state schools and alumni to recruit. I hope that this story has a happy ending for you but please be careful what you say. If some find my response critical, I apologize.

Thank you

PhiMuLady150 11-22-2007 03:56 PM

Just use it as a lesson...these boards can talk. Anyhow, I hope you found your home. Look forward to hearing the rest of your story:)

just curious, what do you mean by this?

What I mean, is that things that are said on this board can come back to bite you in the butt. These boards are read by a lot of members of dif. greek orgs at a lot of schools around the country including where you go. Even though you have already been through recruitment and are merely giving everyone your initial impression of the houses, members of those houses can see those comments and it can be used against you. I don't know details but I think there were some PNMs who weren't careful in chosing their words on this board and it affected their recruitment. Just because this particular forum requires you to have usename and password to post doesn't mean the information we put forth here is not public. Even if there aren't members of those particular chapters at your school on this board, word can get back to them. I hope that clarifies things.

Fleur de Lis 11-22-2007 04:34 PM

Sometimes people also take what is said on GC and move it into real life. For example, it would not be difficult to figure out who you are, and someone from a chapter you didn't speak highly of, etc. may try to make your life difficult, either on GC or in real life. This is obviously unfortunate, but it's reality.

We appreciate your honesty, but it's always best to use discretion!

Please continue your story - I'm looking forward to the ending!

SigKapCoug 11-22-2007 06:54 PM

Just so you know how easy it is...

I live in WA. I don't know any of the schools in the south. But, I found the school in question in 5 seconds googling.

The internet is not private, and don't mistake it for being so.

Leslie Anne 11-22-2007 07:58 PM

My God! Chill out, people. All she said is the conversation was strained and she didn't think the sorority came off well. Big deal.

The veiled threats make you all just look childish.

To the OP, I hope you'll continue with your story. I'd love to hear how things went for you. :)

Benzgirl 11-22-2007 08:58 PM

I think we have beat this to death. Please ladies, she gets it.
On with the story..........

shadokat 11-23-2007 10:43 PM

I wouldn't bother finishing the story if I were her...she's probably scared to death! Like nobody is entitled to an opinion!

Sailboat Sis 11-24-2007 11:32 AM

It's also not hard to figure out each of the houses if you're familiar with the campus. Should you post your "opinions" if you are dead wrong about the supposed "reputations"?

ETA: It's very easy to piece together who is who during recruitment through their GC posts, i.e. which PNM is so-and-so.

ZTAngel 11-24-2007 11:33 AM

I love the honest rush threads. They're an interesting read. It's so boring to constantly read, "The house was ok but just not for me" when you know that the girl really wants to say, "This house was terrible and I'd cry if I ended up with a bid here." Plus, most of us would be lying if we said that we didn't have some of the same thoughts as the OP when we went through rush.

ncse88, please tell us more.

I second loving honest rush threads. There's being honest with sensetivity and there's being brutally honest. She's not brutally honest.

I think we all need to take a step back, because people are entitled to their opinions and they are entitled not to like our chapters. It doesn't mean our particular chapters are bad at that school, it just means that that PNM didn't feel like she would fit in with our sisters. It's not that big of a deal, but we make it like it is. Just my opinion.

ncse88: I really hope you decide to continue your story and if you decide not to post it online, I would definately love to continue hearing it via private messages. Your honesty is invigorating :D

Ditto

Benzgirl 11-24-2007 01:29 PM

I don't think she has said anything that is derrogatory. In fact, I like how she put positive spins on what she had previously perceived.

epchick 11-24-2007 01:57 PM

So who cares if you can figure it out? Really, is it THAT big a deal to know what school she's talking about? From what i've read she hasn't said anything bad about any of the sororities, yes she has her opinions and she's entitled to it. Did you go through Rush and say that every chapter was great and you had the most awesome conversations? Probably not.

DZJess 11-24-2007 02:23 PM

I agree, please continue

Thanks to everyone who wrote kind words, and to the others, I'm sorry you found it so offensive.

It is really ashame that so many stories come to an abrupt end because of a few negative posts. I personally love to read these stories, those who drive the poster away have a bad habit of ruining it for everyone else. Should this continue, we will eventually find recruitment stories coming to an end altogether since posters will be afraid of offending someone, getting chastised and being hassled. This is at least the 3rd story in the last few months that does not come to a conclusion other than the fact that the poster is afraid to finish their tale.

Great, so you figured out the houses. You want a cookie for that?

And YES, you should post your opinions even if you're dead wrong about the reputations! PNMs usually realize that their perceptions were wrong by the end of Recruitment. And so what if they don't? It's their life.

This forum is for Recruitment stories; not Recruitment platitudes!

momofpnm 11-24-2007 06:14 PM

me too

I was enjoying your story and would like to know the rest. Thanks.

A-FREAKING-MEN! The whole point of this forum on GC is for PNMs to share a story and tell us what they're feeling while they're going through recruitment. If what he or she happens to be feeling is "oh my lord, I can't stand to be in this house another minute" or "wow, that girl's shoes are heinous" or "this is the best conversation I've had with a complete stranger ever" it doesn't matter - let 'em write it down! There are warnings all over the place about discretion and tact, so quit saying it, they get the point by now! If all someone is going to do is come in to the RS forum and tell the PNMs that it's just obvious where they are and how it's "clearly" going to ruin their entire rush then get the heck out and let the rest of us who enjoy reading a good story and don't plan on calling a chapter at her school to say "there's a girl rushing who thinks you have bad shoes" do so in peace!

AOII Angel 11-24-2007 07:52 PM

NCSE88...I hope you decide to continue your story. I think that every PNM is entitled to her own opinion about each chapter. If I was in one of these chapters, I'd take your comments as constructive criticism. Not everyone is going to feel comfortable at the same chapters at which I am comfortable, so I don't get offended if they aren't. I thought you explained yourself very well. I was glad to see that you were able to see past the rumors you heard before recruitment. Let's face it...there are rumors about chapters that PNMs hear. You did a great job making your own mind up about the chapters. I want to know how it ended for you!

Jimmy Choo 11-24-2007 07:57 PM

I also would like to get the end of your story as well!

AlwaysSAI 11-24-2007 10:42 PM

She PMed it to me.....good read.

If you ask her by PM or something she may.

It turns out pretty well, Jimmy Choo.;)

hannahgirl 11-24-2007 11:48 PM

I'm so sad that another true recruitment story was ruined because of people who have made GC something that it wasn't meant to be.....judgmental.

I would love to hear the rest of this story if you would PM it to me. I can't wait to find out where you went!

thetaprincess 11-25-2007 12:35 AM

Id like to know the rest. Im too scared to put up my recruitment story

I hope it turns it okay.

Scandia 11-25-2007 08:28 AM

I could not figure out the houses- or even the university, only a guess about the state.

I would like to hear the rest of the story. I do know the reputations of the houses at my undergrad school and had heard most of them before I went through recruitment 11 years ago. My NPC GLO is one that was not at my undergrad school- but this fact has nothing to do with the reasons why I chose it.

ZTAngel 11-25-2007 09:00 AM

I'd love to hear the rest of your story too.

WhiteDaisy128 11-25-2007 10:28 AM

I'd love to hear the rest as well! :-)

I agree. As long as a PNM is posting her actual, experienced thoughts and feelings about a chapter (i.e: "I didn't like this conversation...they seem too focused on my appearance" vs. "Everyone hates this chapter because they suck") we can learn a LOT about how a chapter is coming across during recruitment, not to mention how different recruitments are across campuses. Not to mention learning a little bit more about what PNMs respond positively and negatively to during recruitment.

I'm sure we all know of amazing chapters that just don't do as well during structured recruitment...they may not be aware of how they come across to PNMs. Reading these stories may give us some insight or prompt a private conversation on how to help these chapters out.

Even though I'm not very vocal on these recruitment threads, I do read them (and learn a lot!). I would also be interested in hearing the rest of your story NCSE88...if you are still reading this thread, PM me.

BadCat25 11-25-2007 08:01 PM

I would like to join the rest of you who would like to hear the rest of this story. I found it rather refreshing from the usual "I didn't think I would fit in there" stuff . It is not like she said that one of the chapters was pond scum and she would rather take a power drill to her head than be a member. Stop being so critical guys.
