Name at least one thing you DO wear (but shouldn't)...

There was a thread for this, but it was from 2003, and many of those people don't post here anymore...

So, in the spirit of the "Name at least one thing you never, ever wear"....

What fashion rule do you knowingly break??

Maybe you have a kickass black purse that you wear with all outfits - even navy and brown outfits, just because you like it so much. Maybe you can't stand your toes to be bare, so you wear socks with sandals.

I'll start - When it's really cold I wear thin socks with my ballet flats, instead of knee highs.

summer_gphib 11-20-2007 09:12 AM

If it's cold outside I will wear socks with my birks. *LMAO* I don't know how many fashion rules that breaks.

I also usually wear khaki shorts, a bright polo shirt, and birks. That is my standard apparel.

ASUADPi 11-20-2007 09:22 AM

The fashion rule I knowlingly break:

matching my shoes with my belts. I've got one belt right now, it's black, I will wear brown shoes, deal. :D

PM_Mama00 11-20-2007 11:07 AM

I don't give two poopies about matching my purse with my outfit. My purses are all put away in bins that are a pain to get to, so I pretty much stick with one purse and go with it. My favorite one is the black and white Chanel, but now I've been using my white Prada. At least they're brand names! But I'll be happy to use my Target Xilleration (sp?) purses too. As long as it's cute, I"ll use it.

SthrnZeta 11-20-2007 11:22 AM

I too am guilty of not always matching the purse to the outfit. I usually carry my black Coach, only occasionally will I switch the brown but it's a lot smaller so I don't like carrying it on a daily basis. My biggest purse is a black Kate Spade and I'll carry that if I'm going to the movies ;)

smiley21 11-20-2007 11:31 AM

I have one white scrunchie that I always wear when I put my hair in a ponytail. I can't help it. My hair is very sensitive to accessories. Anything tighter than a scrunchie will cause my hair break really easily. I know it is really dated, but it is not like one of those big ugly scrunchies from the 90s. It is a small white one.

ZTAngel 11-20-2007 11:45 AM

I wear white during the winter. It's the South - I feel like I can get away with more since we have warmer winters.

smiley21 11-20-2007 11:48 AM

With the popularity of "winter white", I think that "No white after Labor Day" rule is getting really dated. I can understand not wearing white shoes, but clothes too? It is a bit much.

tld221 11-20-2007 11:49 AM

awesome...

hmm, i will wear a t-shirt in the dead of winter. not really a faux-pas, but a WTF its 20 degrees kinda thing.

i dont like sweaters/turtlenecks - geez!

and not only do i wear crocs, but ive been known to wear socks with them! be easy, its only around the house. im already been damned by wearing them in public, more than once.

ForeverRoses 11-20-2007 12:00 PM

If I'm wearing a sweatshirt, then it is probably an XL.

I just can't handle wearing a sweatshirt that is actually my size (which is normally a medium). However in my defense, if I am wearing a sweatshirt, I am either at a football game or cleaning my house on the weekend.

NutBrnHair 11-20-2007 12:02 PM

I have a wonderful navy pullover windbreaker with a hood. It has the Chi Omega Greek letters stitched in white. The jacket has no lining (key for my pre-menopausal condition and as a resident of a state with a mild climate) and a zipper pouch -- great for keys, cell phone, etc. when I don't to carry a purse.

I love this jacket!!! I've probably owned it 15+? years?

I was recently told by a very close friend that it looks "very 80s" and that I should update!

Hopeful_Bubbles 11-20-2007 12:39 PM

I'm far too fond of my sweats- undergrad tendencies still hanging on. I also wear a belt that doesn't match my shoes but you can't see the belt so I let it slide. Oh and I've worn socks with my Keens.

Someone told me once that the key to doing "winter white" was to judge by the fabric. If it is a heavy fabric, you're good. If you're wanting to sport a white silk blouse, don't do it. I bend the rule with comfortable white T-shirts I'll wear under a jacket or jogging pull-over, but for the most part I stick with cream in the winter.

skylark 11-20-2007 12:56 PM

Something that I've gotten comments from that I wear: scarves (the silky ones, not the ones for warmth). I guess people my age (20s) aren't supposed to wear these or something? It might be a regional thing, but I just don't see it done. I don't know why, I don't care -- I think they're a fabulous way to make a solid color blouse interesting.

Another one that I'm not sure is a rule, but is something my mother told me not to do: I wear flats with skirts sometimes. I have some really cute Via Spiga flats, and I just can't help myself because a skirt is the best way to see them (as opposed to under a pant leg).

Benzgirl 11-20-2007 12:59 PM

I never match my purse to my shoes. I have friends that empty their purses evernight to do so. I only do so for special occasions.

My thought...if it doesn't bother me, why should it bother anyone else.

macallan25 11-20-2007 02:16 PM

I'm wearing shorts right now, in the middle of November. It's 75 degrees outside. Deal with it.

KSUViolet06 11-20-2007 04:11 PM

I don't match my purses with my outfits. I'm sorry but I paid for it, I will wear my tan Coach with whatever I want.

I know most people hate them, but I love my Uggs. I have a brown and a black pair.

Benzgirl 11-21-2007 10:36 AM

I never wear belts. I have at least 20 and they collect dust. I keep buying them with hopes that I will find one I like, but I end up hating all of them.
Luckily I'm curvy enough for my hips to catch my pants in the event my pants would ever shimmy downward:D

This is me today - only it's knee length capris. I can't do the mid-calf ones - they make me look like an oompa-loompa, but the just below the knee ones aren't too bad.:D

GeekyPenguin 11-21-2007 11:19 AM

I once came to school in a North Face, a cashmere sweater, jeans, and flipflops. I can't help myself, I'd wear them every day if I could. This year I cut myself off after our fall break, but I miss them so.

AGDee 11-21-2007 01:30 PM

I'm at a point in life where, when it comes to footwear, comfort has to take priority over fashion, no matter what. I really really need foot surgery but logistically, that's so difficult that I keep putting it off. In the meantime, I'm going to wear something comfortable.

KappaKittyCat 11-21-2007 10:49 PM

I own Crocs. I love them. I wear them only when I staff ERs. I figure if the nurses can stand for 12 hours in them, I can too.

For the rest of the time, even in Wisconsin, I wear slippers (flip-flops, sandals, whatever) from March or so 'til there's snow on the ground... which happened for the first time tonight, so I guess I've gotta put them away now.

I wore flannel lined jeans, t-shirt, sweater, and flip flops yesterday.

I just really hate shoes.

People wear Crocs barefoot? That's nasty. I had a friend who wears them barefoot and she gets this nasty black dirty crap all over her feet and the shoes. It's disgusting.

Flip flops are a girl's best friend. The only reason I stop wearing them is to save money from getting pedicures once a month.

Ditto. I live in my Merrill black clogs most of the year, with a brief break for Birks in warmer weather. I wish I could wear cute sandals, flip flops, flats or even heels again!

KatieKate1244 11-23-2007 12:13 AM

I have a pair of gauchos that I only wear around the house. And my purse never matches my outfit, as I usually carry Vera Bradley.

amycat412 11-23-2007 12:49 AM

denim jackets with holes in elbows. lol Apparently I have sharp elbows. They have to be pried away from me before I'll replace

wearing crocs with socks is like wearing man sandals with socks. think like this: crocs and (basic) flip-flops are made of the same material... dont your feet get gross wearing flip-flops?

Scandia 11-23-2007 08:37 AM

- I do not match my purse to my shoes.

- I do not wear belts. My hips do catch my pants were they to slide down, though.

- I wear white in the winter. That rule is SO outdated.

Lady Pi Phi 11-23-2007 02:14 PM

I love my Croc flip flops. They are the most comfortable shoes I war, and being a diabetic I have to take care of my feet. I bought them after walking around Old Montreal for hours one day in my crappy Old Navy flip flops. Crocs might be ugly, but if you have feet problems they are the best shoes ever!

I never match my purse to my shoes. I almost always wear black shoes and carry a brown purse. I love my purse. I might change it up everyonce in while, but only if I feel like it.

No. They don't sweat like hogs in flip flops.

SWTXBelle 11-28-2007 09:35 PM

I wear Crocs - now only at home - with socks. So comfy!
