Miss Universe is on Friday, May 11th!
Since I love to watch pageants on TV, I wanted to let everyone know that Miss Universe is looming on the horizen! I though I would mention that if you go to: http://www.missuniverse.com/ ......
they have the headshots of the delegates! If pageants interest you, you will want to check back at the website often, as they will update the website on an ongoing basis with pictures of the delegates doing various activities in the preliminaries like fashion shows, Parade of Nations, etc. If you want to see the lovely ladies, click on Delegates, then Country Listing, then the country that you want to see. Since the majority of us are from Canada or USA... Canada is represented by the lovely Cristina Remond There's info on her at this website, too: http://www.geocities.com/pageant_2000/ http://www.missuniverse.com/delegate...s/headshot.jpg (This photo is not that flattering IMHO, but oh well) USA is represented by the lovely Kandace Krueger (she was Miss Texas at the Miss USA 2001 pageant). http://www.missuniverse.com/delegate...s/headshot.jpg Enjoy! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by CutiePie2000 (edited April 27, 2001).] [This message has been edited by CutiePie2000 (edited May 10, 2001).] [This message has been edited by CutiePie2000 (edited May 10, 2001).] |
I'm also a fan of pageants! I remember when the Miss Universe pageant was held at our campus Sports Arena in 1998--I was an official lei greeter!
I also watch tabloid shows, and someone made a ridiculous claim that Miss France was actually a man! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif Of course, Inside Edition didn't reveal their sources, but many pageant delegates, including Miss USA, came to her defense. http://www.missuniverse.com/delegate...s/headshot.jpg Decide for yourself...Elodie Gossuin doesn't look like a man to me! ------------------ "Talk doesn't cook rice."--Someone smart Visit Alpha Gamma Delta-Delta Sigma chapter and help some sisters out! [This message has been edited by OohTeenyWahine (edited April 26, 2001).] |
ahh god, if you ask me i'd say cristina's the one who looks like a man...i've seen many girls on my campus alone that look better than she does. How are we expected to compete in this competition if we're not putting forth our best girls.
|
Thank you so much for announcing this CutiePie! I had no idea! I love pageants, so I will definitely watch!
OTW, aww that's so sad, I think Miss France is simply beautiful! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif Sometimes tabloid shows make me wonder http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif, but I have to admit I love watching them! hehe! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ "If you judge people, you have no time to love them."~Unknown "You can have anything you want if you will give up the belief that you can't have it." ~Robert Anthony "Depend on the rabbit's foot if you will, but remember it didn't work for the rabbit." ~R. I doubt I'll stay in on a Friday night to watch it but I must say that Miss USA is beautiful. Of course I hope she wins.

Lil_G, That picture of Cristina does not do her justice (and I've changed it now to a better one). I've seen other photos of her that look lovely. Kandace Krueger is also lovely, but I don't think that photo of her is very flattering.
As for Miss France, that is a mean-spirited rumour that she is a man. She's issued a statement that she has never been a "Mr." and that the rumour is false. [This message has been edited by CutiePie2000 (edited April 27, 2001).] |
here are some interesting articles:

Only 2 days to go! YIPPEE!
|
Out of all the different paegants, this one is the only one I don't watch. Too bad I will be busy Friday night because I actually want to watch it this time. Maybe I'll just have to video tape it.

My cousin, who works now at Singapore, is really good friends with Miss Singapore!!! GO MISS SINGAPORE!! I really wish I knew how to post her picture here, but I don't know how. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif
I really want her to win also, b/c I think we need more Asian Miss Universes!!! When was the last time that an Asian won Miss Universe??? [This message has been edited by newbie (edited May 09, 2001).] |
BTW, I think Miss Universe 2000, the former Miss India, Lara Dutta...is simply gorgeous! Plus I think she reigned well as Miss Universe...she is intelligent and eloquent.

India *is* considered part of Asian, therefore the current reigning Miss Universe is Asian. However, here are some other past Miss Universes who hail from Asia: 1965 Apasra Hongsakula - Thailand 1969 Gloria Diaz - Phillippines 1973 Margarita Moran - Phillippines 1988 Porntip Nakhirunkanok - Thailand 1994 Sushmita Sen - India 2000 Lara Dutta - India Here is the lovely Miss Singapore, Jamie Teo, just for you! http://www.missuniverse.com/delegate...s/headshot.jpg [This message has been edited by CutiePie2000 (edited May 10, 2001).] [This message has been edited by CutiePie2000 (edited May 10, 2001).] |

Hehe, thanks Cutiepie2000 http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. Can I ask, how do you get the picture on here? Did you just copy and paste?? My bad, :embarassed: I should have known that Indians are considered Asians, too http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. I'm wondering, does anyone know if Miss Singapores/Miss Taiwans/Miss Japans have ever won a Miss Universe title?
Equeen--Lara Dutta is SOOO classy!!! She is so elegant, beautiful, and plain SMART!!!!! |

Just go to this link and scroll down to "Adding Images": http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/ubbcode.html and it will reveal all about how to paste pictures up on GreekChat! If you want to know who the past Miss Universes are... go here: http://www.missuniverse.com/50years/past-index.html (You didn't think I had memorized all that info, didja? HA HA! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif ) Here's a better shot of Miss Canada, Cristina Remond: http://www.misscanadianuniverse.com/images/1.jpg [This message has been edited by CutiePie2000 (edited May 10, 2001).] |
Hehe, thanks Cutiepie!! I'm not very Internet-proficient, so I thought posting the pictures would require some kind of special tool or something!! LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif
You know, I love watching pageants, too!! I just LOVE watching the Miss Teen USA, the Miss USA, Miss America, Miss Universe, etc. pageants. Unfortunately, you're right, Cutiepie, we here in teh U.S. aren't able to see the World Pageants http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. BTW, I love Miss Canada's dress!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Cutiepie and others, have you all picked out favorites, yet? Of course, I want Miss Singapore to do well http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. And Miss Korea, too. I also like Miss Trinidad and Tobago!! I think "exotic" (Don't think that's the right word, but oh well) women are gorgeous http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif! |
One thing I thought I would mention is that India has been a real powerhouse at Miss World, as well. This is a pageant that takes place in England, and tends to be aired in Europe, but not in North America (I think you need a satellite dish).
Another interesting tidbit for you Americans is that way back when, Miss Canada actually used to go to Miss America! Doesn't that seem strange now? Here is a historical picture: http://pageant.com/misscanada/images/canmargaret.jpg "Miss Canada 1949, Margaret Lynn Munn (center left), in the famous bathing beauty-scholarship spectacle known as Miss America. She was a preliminary talent winner and semi-finalist in the pageant." Since you have an interest in Asian beauty queens, Canada's rep to Miss Universe in 2000 was Kim Yee: http://www.misscanadianuniverse.com/images/kim_2.jpg She is half Chinese and half Ukrainian and she made the TOP 5! WOO HOO! |
What is up with the show this year? I turned on the show during the question period.
They should have kept those supermodels on the CATwalk! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/kopfpatsch.gif What were the producers thinking? Oh Donald, you're slipping. Did Tyson (Beckford) forget that he was not going to a Ralph Lauren photo shoot? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif [This message has been edited by AKA2D '91 (edited May 11, 2001).] |
They all seem more attractive than our Miss America . . . but these are the airbrushed photos (the airbrushing technique that was exposed here on GC?)?

So who won?

If you're talking about Miss America 2001 Angela Perez Baraquio..then I take offense to that. Not only because I'm buddies with Angie's little bro...but because she's a good role model for all of the country to follow. Just because she's not blonde and buxom like most beauty pageant queens doesn't make her less attractive. To also touch up on the Asian beauty queen subject--you can't forget about Miss Teen USA 1985 Kelly Hu (she's on Martial Law now I think) and Miss Universe 1997 Brook Mahealani Lee were both of some Asian descent. In fact, when Brook visited Korea, Korean TV did a whole show on Brook's family line tracing back to her Korean roots. [This message has been edited by OohTeenyWahine (edited May 12, 2001).] |
Miss Puerto Rico won! How wondeful, in her OWN "back yard".
Now, only if those Saints can win the Super Bowl this season in their OWN "back yard". That would be very nice! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif |
can someone please tell me how India got to the final 5 with her stripper shoes?
|
Good question USFstudent, I was wondering the same thing. LOL
I am usually into Miss Universe paageant, but I wasn't at all impressed by this one. It was ... blah! (Maybe because I was hearbroken that Miss Nigeria didn't make the final cut) |
I'm glad Miss Puerto Rico won! She was definitely a beauty!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Miss Puerto Rico was one of my faves along with Singapore, Germany, Korea, and Trinidad and Tobago http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif.
Miss Puerto Rico quickly became my favorite after Miss Singapore wasn't called to the Top Ten!! She has SO MUCH elegance, grace...WOW, when me, my bf, and his family were watching this...I think all of our mouths just dropped...she seriously could become a Supermodel, like Naomi or Elle!! After she made the Top Ten..I called her as the winner, I just knew it with her presence/aura...I seriously still think she should become a Supermodel!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Hey guys! This is very interesting: http://www.icompact.com/ubb/Forum48/HTML/000174.html just about pageants in general...reading it is very sad http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. It's from my fave beauty messageboard www.icompact.com
Side Note: I forgot to tell you all, I was also rooting for Miss Nigeria! I was bummed when she didn't make the final five. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif ALso...about Miss Greece needing a translator...I think she was cheating?? She looked like she could speak Eng. perfectly fine, and I think she used the translator just to stall. Also, there are some archived chats on http://promo.yahoo.com/missuniverse/ ! For ex., Miss India 2001, Miss Canada 2001, Miss Singapore 2001 (YAY!!!), and others came to chat! [This message has been edited by newbie (edited May 14, 2001).] |
More info about Miss PR from Jamie Teo, Miss Singapore 2001:
(from archived chat...link in above post) y_singapore_host: how about the other delegates? who do you think is nice and who do you think might win? yguest_jamie_teo: oh, ok :-) I think Ms PR will win yguest_jamie_teo: she has the bearing of a beauty queen yguest_jamie_teo: 1st of all she is very popular here y_singapore_host: so what is the bearing of a beauty queen? yguest_jamie_teo: the people cheer for her like in a football field yguest_jamie_teo: as aperson she is very nice yguest_jamie_teo: she plays the role very well yguest_jamie_teo: always smiling yguest_jamie_teo: plays it very well Cool, so Miss PR is very nice, too!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Maybe this is O/T, but since there are a lot of you out there who love pageants and weddings...I thought I'd share this info.
My BF and I received tickets to go to the Miss Hawaii Pageant last night. Miss America Angela Perez Baraquio was there to help with festivities. Her boyfriend is part of a local singing group, and mid-performance he surprised her with a song that asked her to marry him. She said yes. For pictures, visit this link: http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/ar.../ln/ln16a.html . There wasn't a dry eye in the house. |
