Side Hug

I am a guy.

A guy identifying as heterosexual gave me a side-hug at work last week.

As in, we were talking and he put his arm around me from the side, about the waist.

He's not really straight, is he?

SigKapAngel767 10-30-2007 09:06 PM

Maybe just very friendly?

No. He really isnt. AND he likes you

Ooooooooooo.........

This kind of thing always happens to me.

My coworkers told me that although he is rather expressive, and tends to do the high fives and the shoulder touches while talking, he's never given anyone but me the side hug.

I feel special.

Is this a friend or more of a random guy type thing? My close guy friends I do this too all the time.

Random guy...he could like you or he is almost too friendly.

^^^ Kinky frat!

We work in an office of 8 people. Four of us are openly gay, two are women, one is a priest, and then there's the side hugger. Several of our clients identify as gay.

We are close as a small org, but we don't hang out after hours.

Friends? Nah. Friendly, yes.

DSTCHAOS 10-30-2007 09:44 PM

LOL.

christiangirl 10-30-2007 10:17 PM

Side hugs around the shoulder--yes. Side hug around the waist--questionable:confused:. I'm not labeling anybody but I've never seen it happen among straight friends. You decide.

On a related note, the president of my university gave me a side-hug one time. It was very quick. "Affectionate" in a platonic sense but not erotic -- ya know?

LOL. I guess you could say that. We are just that silly. I've walked around arm in arm with my (male)cousin in public. We randomly slap each other on the bum for no good reason. We have a young'n that we look at as basically our little brother and when we began to "initiate" him he put up the expected stuggle and we basically told him "Don't fight it".

Senusret I 10-31-2007 07:33 AM

I don't know frat.... this sounds like it's walking down the path of Bro Rape.

lol jk

Agreed.

Why am I suddenly seeing in my mind's eye that scene from the Will & Grace where Matt Damon (as Owen) is trying to pass as gay so he can beat Jack out for a spot in the Gay Men's Chorus and go on a trip to Europe, while Jack is trying to "in" him:
Jack: Oh, interesting. You gave me the straight-guy, double-pat-on-the-back, no-hip-contact hug.
Owen: Actually it was more the gay-guy, bend-at-the-waist, feel-your-delts, check-out-your-shoes hug.

This is so Seinfeld.

Your shoulders I would say he's just being one of those back-slapping hearty sort of fellows - but around your WAIST?? He wants you dude :D

Yup. That and the fact that you felt a vibe. Yup

Seinfeld... that's what it is. I couldn't put my finger on it, but this definitely reeks of a Seinfeld episode. Not that that's a bad thing, I'll forever love "Man Hands" and "Close Talker." ;) I agree, around the waist means more than around the shoulders... very intriguing indeed.

i'm a "sideler" woman (my boss is a HUGE sideler!) with the "kiss hello" as a close second.

Senusret I 10-31-2007 10:39 PM

I didn't really watch Seinfeld, so a lot of this is just crazytalk to me. :o

cheerfulgreek 11-01-2007 12:45 AM

Since he gave you a side hug around the waist, he could be bi. That totally doesn't seem right, coming from a straight guy.
