Seven dead in NC beach house fire

http://www.thestate.com/news/story/213625.html

Supposely the ones who died are Tri-Deltas and SAEs. Six of the victims attended South Carolina (USC) and one attended Clemson. The other six that were in the house were treated and released.

Please pray for the families of the victims, the suvivors and all of their loved ones (greek or not). :( :( The news is already hit Carolina and people are taking it very hard.

catiebug 10-28-2007 06:44 PM

Oh my God...

txdiva 10-28-2007 07:04 PM

:(

honeychile 10-28-2007 07:09 PM

I had just read about this prior to logging onto GreekChat. My sincerest sympathies to the families & friends of those who died, as well as the Tri Delta, SAE, and USC families.

icicle22 10-28-2007 07:18 PM

I'd really like to know what started that fire, though.

AGDLynn 10-28-2007 07:49 PM

I saw this on the news before reading it; my first thought was I wondered if Greeks were involved.

So sad..they were probably there having a good time and watching/attending the SC-Tenn game.

Jimmy Choo 10-28-2007 08:11 PM

Truely tragic...... :(

OOhsoflyDELTA#9 10-28-2007 08:31 PM

God bless the families, friends, and chapters of everyone involved....this is soo sad...:(

Wolfman 10-28-2007 09:05 PM

May God truly have mercy on those TriDeltas and SAEs who died in that house fire, and give comfort to their sisters/brothers and families!

MellySK 10-28-2007 10:59 PM

Truly tragic

I'm also curious as to how the fire started, and seemed to go up so fast. Though, I suppose at 7 am, they were probably sleeping, and that can make it more difficult to get out - that early morning disorientated thing, coupled with smoke and flame:(

So sad, my heart goes out to the families and friends:(

PrettyInPink777 10-28-2007 11:22 PM

What a tragedy! My prayers are with the families, friends, sisters and brothers of those who died. This is so sad.

macallan25 10-28-2007 11:38 PM

DZ from Clemson was also in the fire.

Buttonz 10-29-2007 12:30 AM

:( My friend text messaged this to me knowing I'd want to know about it while I was on my way back to school. He told me that I'll read about it on here tonight.

My thoughts go out to all of their family and greek families.

astroAPhi 10-29-2007 12:39 AM

Their families and chapters are in my prayers tonight.

yangstar 10-29-2007 01:46 AM

As a person who is still in shock over the San Diego fires...this is just...wow. :[

http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlates...031740,00.html

``There were three kids sitting on the ground screaming,'' said newspaper deliverer Tim Burns, who called 911 after seeing a column of smoke rising from the house. ``There was one guy hanging out the window, and he jumped in the canal. I know he got out because he was yelling for a girl to follow him.''

I can't imagine dealing with that at all. Thoughts and prayers are definitely with those afflicted and their families and friends.

DeltAlum 10-29-2007 02:01 AM

I also read about this just before signing on tonight...

There really is no word to describe how tragic this kind of thing is.

kk_bama 10-29-2007 08:29 AM

:( So tragic. Prayers for USC, Clemson, Tri-Delt, SAE and any other Greek orgs involved.

scarleteriberry 10-29-2007 09:43 AM

How awful!

This is so terrible....I'm so sorry about this.

This is just heartwrenching. Some of my friend's children were in that house. One family from Florence, SC had 2 sons, one got out and one died. Just terrible. A friend's son from Greenville also died. The owner's daughter got out. They had only been asleep for a little over an hour when it started. The biggest delay is identifying which body is which person that is missing. Pray for these families and schools.

This whole thing is unbelievable. I can't imagine how the brother that got out is going to cope... what an unfathomable tragedy. Deep condolences to the families, chapters and friends of all those involved.

MysticCat 10-29-2007 11:57 AM

It's just beyond horrifying.

My deepest sympathies are with all those affected.

Benzgirl 10-29-2007 12:00 PM

So tragic. It brought back terrible memories of the Ohio U. Alpha Gams a few years back.
My heart goes out to all of their extended families.

SAEalumnus 10-29-2007 12:06 PM

The SAEs involved were from our South Carolina Delta Chapter. News stories are available here and here. Please keep the victims of this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.

bejazd 10-29-2007 12:20 PM

So very, very sad. My heart is broken for the families and friends of the victims. May God comfort and guide them in their grief.

Tom Earp 10-29-2007 02:17 PM

I have seen this and finally found out what GLOs were there.

It is so sad to hear about these young people that died in this fun outing that came to such a tragic end.

I suppose some will want to make a big thing about them being greeks.:(

They were just kids having fun!

My heart goes out to the families, friends, and the Brothers and Sisters of these young Greeks.

SWTXBelle 10-29-2007 02:20 PM

There simply are not words to express how unbearably tragic this is. I'm sure we are all keeping the families and GLOs of the victims in our thoughts and prayers. I cannot begin to imagine the pain they must be feeling.

AuburnPNMmom 10-29-2007 02:25 PM

They are saying now they believe the fire started on the outside deck :(. Terrible. The news conferences have been on all day on our local SC station.

sageofages 10-29-2007 02:45 PM

The sadness of it is so hard.

The greek world and others weeps with SAE, DDD and DZ...and long with their families and intimates.

I am so sorry to all.

OleMissGlitter 10-29-2007 02:58 PM

This is so sad. :(

My heart goes out to all of their extended families.

It did for me as well. The Alpha Gams are immediately next door to the Delts in Athens. Both the Ohio University and Ohio State campuses were profoundly affected -- and to the best of my knowledge, the alleged arsonist has never been caught.

There is also word of a fire at the SAE house at Kent State, but thankfully nobody hurt at that one.

Bad week for SAE.

Again, condolences to everyone involved.

It wasn't reported but I will bet it was a grill on the porch.

AuburnPNMmom 10-29-2007 04:13 PM

The campuses are receiving a huge outpouring of support and Ohio was thanked during the news conference. Many moons ago, I was a little sister for SAE at USC.....A group of us have sent food to the houses.....The gamecock painted in front of the Russell House has been designated as the receiving place for condolences. The young lady DZ from Clemson was a sophomore....

AOIIalum 10-29-2007 05:43 PM

I am so sorry to hear such heartbreaking news.

BuckeyeTriDelta 10-29-2007 06:16 PM

Absolutely tragic...there are no words.

AGDee 10-29-2007 06:21 PM

I was also reminded of the Alpha Gams in Ohio when I read this subject. My thoughts and prayers are with the chapters, families and friends of the departed. As a parent, I can't imagine how one copes.

MSKKG 10-29-2007 07:14 PM

Three young ladies and one young man who died have been identified as well as the young man who survived by jumping into the water from the 3rd floor.

I'm pleased to hear that Ohio could help, but sorry for the reason the support was necessary.

IHeartUGA, thanks for the update and the link.

AGDee, it's nice to know that people still remember, but it's too bad when a situation like this to brings the memories back.
