TAR 12

So I started seeing promos last night (in between fire coverage) of the new season - begins November 4th! (Did anyone else know it was coming this soon?)

Here's the website: http://alpha.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race12/

Teams are:
Kynt & Vyksin (Dating Goths)
Jennifer & Nathan (Dating)
Ronald & Christina (Father/Daughter)
Shana & Jennifer (Friends)
Azaria & Hendekea (Brother/Sister)
Lorena & Jason (Dating)
Nicolas & Donald (Grandson/Grandfather)
Ari & Staella (Best Friends)
Marianna & Julia (Sisters)
Rachel & TK (Dating for almost one year)
Kate & Pat (Married Ministers)

So we have 5 couples, 4 families, and 2 friends teams - interesting.... :)

ZTABullwinkle 10-24-2007 03:11 PM

I had been reading rumors on other websites that "Viva Laughlin" was going to be cancelled. From what I could gather, CBS wants to hold out the new season on "Jericho" so they can do more advertising/promotions.

I am excited that it is coming back so soon. It is a shame that it has to go against Sunday football. At least I rule the remote in our house. :p

PeppyGPhiB 10-24-2007 03:20 PM

I'm surprised there are so many dating couples. They're the ones that usually fight the most, and that gets pretty old for me after a while. I'd rather have one or two more "friends" or "Married" pairs. I like the ones that are parent-child, too.

ZTABullwinkle's right - TAR12 has been moved up because Viva Laughlin was cancelled.

MysticCat 10-24-2007 04:03 PM

And there was great rejoicing!!!

Look for nittanylion and me in TAR13. :D

Between the goths and the two married members of the cloth (rainbow coloured cloth, that is ;) ), this will definitely make for some good TV viewing!

I'm most excited for the "Dating Goths" -- best team name yet! (well, until MysticCat & I go on as the first "Internet Friends" team -- or maybe "Team GC" or "GC Posting Pals" or something else catchy like that)

jitterbug13 10-24-2007 09:38 PM

I was suprised to see a comercial for TAR a few minutes ago. They should have brought it back already, because Viva Laughin was DOA.

nittanyalum 11-05-2007 02:48 PM

Caught the premiere last night, I am so glad the team that got eliminated did, that guy was just too set on creating drama for drama's sake and was already being snaky in the first leg (stealing the cab). The only thing that would have made me happier would have been if Nate & Jenny's donkey had never moved and they had been eliminated instead -- I can't believe how mean he was already being to her and they JUST started! The goth couple cracked me up and I'll be interested whether they can keep the "look" up what with all the travel and weather and lack of sleep, etc.

Same here. I could already tell his voice was goingto drive me crazy.

LOL, my wife and I said the same thing. When he made the comment about how slow a runner she was, we just looked at each other and asked "then why did you come on the race with her?" Seriously, I mean, the race just started.

There isn't really a couple I'm rooting for yet; I need to see them a little more.

But YEA! for the race being back!

nittanyalum 11-05-2007 03:20 PM

I don't have a team I'm definitely rooting for yet either, although the dad-daughter team tugged at my heart strings last night (he was so sweet about not wanting to disappoint her). I don't think they're strong enough to make it all the way through, though. I don't think the grandson/grandfather will make it far either. The clergy ladies might be surprise dark horses, they seem to be the smart 'n steady kind of team. We'll be like that too, MC, although we'll be smart, steady and SPEEDY too, I'm sure... ;)

ETA: The blond bombshell team irritated me by insisting on being filmed in their bikinis and being blatant that they planned to tramp their way through the race -- they barely made it through last night so we'll see how well that plan works. And so far no "outrageous" characters like in seasons past that I could detect -- maybe some will emerge in the coming weeks...?

Did we REALLY need another blond bombshell team? I seriously think it's too soon after Dustin and Kandice. At least the Beauty Queens had some likeability to them. BB Part Two? I really hoped that they would have been eliminated last night. However, I'm happy Ari and Staela did. Cha Cha Cha, YOU ARE NOT!

Aside from the whole plethora of dating couples...did anyone notice that a lot of them were from LA/Southern California? Did no one from the rest of the country apply?

I'm rooting for the goths for now. "Two fairies on a ferry!" ...classic!

jitterbug13 11-05-2007 08:21 PM

I'm rooting for the goths as well as the brother/sister team. I hope the brother is single. ;)

I thought it was perfect that the two most annoying teams got the donkeys that didn't want to move. I wanted both of those teams to be eleminated, but I'll take the wannabe Will and Grace for right now.

I know the blonds were disapointed that they weren't no hot guys to flirt with this season. :p

Rumor has it that this season will be two episodes shorter and no non-eleminaton stops.

Yeah, didn't it used to be 16 teams rather than 11? Or am I remembering that wrong?

I'm guessing then they'll do some multiple "continuation" legs, since Phil said that there were 11 legs to the race.

I was dying laughing last night with Nathan and Jennifer with the donkey - I'm still "eh" about the teams, too, but those two were the worst (oh yeah, and the "baby"s from Lorena and Jason - I think we've found the new Hayden & Aaron  )

ETA: I've always remembered it as 11 teams - maybe one season with 12? No more than that

PeppyGPhiB 11-05-2007 10:44 PM

I think it's always been 11 teams of two. I too heard that they got rid of the non-elimination legs this time, so when Phil said, "...the last team to arrive at the pit stop WILL be eliminated," in the beginning when he was explaining the rules of the race, that sealed it in my mind.

I noticed right away when I read about the teams that almost all of them were from L.A. That really bugs me. Especially since all those teams seem to be actors, and most of them are dating. Basically, a bunch of the teams feel the same to me.

I'm rooting for the father-daughter because I like the teams that do the race with a family member, plus that team is from the Seattle area :)

Y'all indeed heard right: http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/ent...rty-offer.html

I really like the fact that new countries are being visited. I always knew Ireland was beautiful...makes me want to visit there even more!

nittanyalum 11-05-2007 11:55 PM

I'm glad to hear the non-elimination rounds are gone, too. It would drive me crazy when a team I couldn't stand FINALLY ended up last... and they got to stay anyway.

True, butI would cheer when a team I liked managed to stay in thanks to a non-elimination leg.

I also think it's interesting that there are no married teams this go-around, except, of course, for the married clergy.

nittanyalum 11-13-2007 02:53 PM

Ok, I'm just getting around to commenting on the latest show -- I am no longer a fan of the father in the father/daughter team! I could not believe HOW mean he was to her, I was screaming "oh, stop talking!!" at the screen when he would go off on one of his tangents. He's awful. I wish there was a way for her to do well and him to have to go home, because she's great. The grandson in the grandfather/son team is also annoying. But go grandpa, stripping down to do the Detour challenge. Classic!

I'm still not a fan of any of the "dating" teams, except I like that the Goths have been doing pretty well (but I'm not sure I buy that they're "dating"??). I was sad that the ministers didn't make it, they were my dark-horse vote for being the smart and steady team that just might get to the end.

So I guess that leaves the brother-sister team as my favorites (the sisters and blondies are ranking among the dating teams still in my book). They seem like pretty good kids.

How could you not like him? He's so supportive of everyone, whether he really knows them or not, and is such a team player.

At this point I'm liking them and Lorena and Jason the most, although it likes like Lorena may blow that for me next week. (That is, if the previews aren't blowing something small out of proportion; 'cause they'd never pull something like that. :D )

I'm still okay with the Goths, too.

LOL. You'll never belittle me like he did her if I can't pole-vault across a ditch the first time, will you, MC? When he told that teeny thing that she needs to lose weight because he couldn't get himself balanced on that bike, ooo, I was so mad.

Is she the one they showed on the ground on her knees, wailing? Just the preview had me laughing, I can't WAIT for that one! ;)

Not a big fan of the team, but still a big fan of Christina. I really admire Christina standing up to her dad -- IMO, something unthinkable in traditional Asian upbringings (I hate getting all Taualumna on y'all...but oh well).

I still like the Goths, but it'd be nice to see an all female team win, just because it hasn't been done yet. :)

I've gotten so I always record the show and watch it later on Sunday, as much as anything so I can back up and watch parts again to make sure I caught it all. That's one part I had to back up; I looked at my wife and said "he didn't really just tell her she needs to lose weight, did he? I can't have heard that right." Playing it over proved that I did indeed hear it right.

Yes, I think we're thinking of the same player/team.

jitterbug13 11-19-2007 12:26 AM

(((Lorena))) It seemed like everytime she was making some headway, the camels would kick the milk out of her hand. But it was good her and Jason didn't get kicked off.

Christina's dad acted a whole lot better tonight. :)

Brother/sister team: :)

I missed it tonight! I thought I'd be able to watch it online (sorry, WGA :o), but cbs.com doesn't stream it (why Survivor but not TAR??).

So who did get the boot?

MysticCat 11-19-2007 09:47 AM

Maria and Julia, who shot themselves in the foot by helping the only Roadblocker behind them, Lorena (or "she who screams and falls on her knees when her camel will not cooperate with the milking"). As they leave for the next task, The Sisters take pity on Lorena and suggest she go for one of the camels with a baby. Guess what? It works, and Lorena and Jason first catch up with The Sisters and then beat them to the mat. Oops.

A reminder for us when we race -- it can bring good karma to help other teams, but only when helping them can't hurt us.

You can read a really good re-cap here.

nittanyalum 11-19-2007 10:40 AM

Thanks, MC! That recap is great, I'll have to check that even when I see the episodes, the author is hilarious. I loved the Ron and "Hot Topic" references.

Based on the previews and the write-up, I sooooo wish I could have seen Lorena's actual performance, sounds like quite a piece of work. I'm actually glad they stuck around so I might catch a repeat performance in another episode.

And uh, yeah, I'm all for playing a good, clean game and not undercutting the competition unfairly, but hello? Why would you help the people you're battling for last place? Good tip for our strategy book, MC, learning from all these peoples' mistakes will only make us stronger... :)

KDAngel 11-19-2007 10:44 AM

Lorena last night was hysterical! I SO wanted her to get the boot. It was nice that her boyfriend never yelled at her though. I'd have lost my cool.

I don't like the goths whatsoever.

Azaria & Hendekea are my faves. :D

Reality News Online is a must read for me, even when I've seen the episides. They are just so well written, and they'll have seperate articles on "Thinking Smart" or First Class and Cargo Class Awards. They usually have interviews with the eliminated teams, too.

Really, when whichever sister it was offered that suggestion, I thought "well, you just got eliminated." (Not that I minded -- I like Jason and Lorena, despite her hysterics last night.)

As for the "rules" of good gameplay, you'll want to check out RNO's "Thinking Smart Before the Race."

ADqtPiMel 11-19-2007 06:39 PM

BABY THERE'S NO MIIIIIIILK

KDAngel 11-26-2007 12:05 AM

I <3 Azaria & Hendekea. I'm glad they didn't let the other group come in first just to be nice.

Anyone else have to deal with 60 Minutes running over week after week and screwing up when this show starts? I thought it was just a NC thing, but now that I live in DC I still have to deal with it here. SO frustrating!

mu_agd 11-26-2007 05:39 AM

It's because of football.

SWTXBelle 11-26-2007 09:17 AM

- I hate football.

The goths have grown on me. Yes, they are really a little too cute to be called "goths", but they seem geniunely fond of each other - and unlike so many other teams, were touched by what they saw in Africa, as opposed to getting snotty and superior. I don't know that I buy "dating", but hey, who really cares about that? They are supportive and positive - but if I never hear "Oh my goth" again that will be okay.
Grandpa rubs me the wrong way, and I hate Lorena and her whining. And all I can say about the hernia is "karma, baby".

Unregistered- 11-26-2007 01:39 PM

I see the point of the U-Turn, but I think it's stupid. They should have just kept the Yield. I didn't like Lorena like most of ya'll, but I hoped that they could have came back just to stick it to the blondes. I thought it was interesting how they weren't unanimous in their decision. Hopefully it'll come back to bite them in the ass...preferably in the form of a bus/train.

Co-sign on everything above! And I was wondering about the whole u-turn business, it hadn't occurred to me that it replaced the yield. Agree the yield was better.

And I think you're right about the blondes getting bit in the heiney on the way back 'round, the previews make it look like they're starting to implode. Their day needs to come... soon.

But MC, good mistake for us to learn from. We'll have to make sure we've fully thought out the strategies for u-turns or yields or what-have-you so we make good decisions and keep in harmony with each other when the pressure's on... :D

SWTXBelle 12-03-2007 08:41 AM

Hurray! The blondes are gone!

mu_agd 12-03-2007 10:29 AM

Did anyone else think Shana would be all "Shana out!" to be like Seacrest?

Just me?
